Bridesmaid Dress Opinion

I'm having trouble deciding which bridesmaid dress(es) to choose! I found three that are reasonably priced that I like from David's Bridal, and of course each bridesmaid likes a different dress. I originally wanted to go with a lighter blue (capri) but I'm not opposed to going with a brighter blue (like malibu - which all three dresses come in). So my question is - has anyone had experience with having three different styles of dresses all in the same color? Or two different colors? Or different colors AND different styles?

Here are the three dresses:
1. http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_mesh-spaghetti-strap-short-dress-w10942 (this is the one my MOH likes best)
2. http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_strapless-chiffon-dress-with-layered-skirt-f14169
3. http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_short-one-shoulder-crinkle-chiffon-dress-w10941

I'm thinking my options are:

1) Have my maid of honor wear this dress in malibu:

And having the other bridesmaids wear this dress in capri:

2) Just let everyone pick whichever style dress they want of the three as long as it's in malibu color.

Any suggestions/recommendations? Thanks in advance!

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Opinion

  • I would pick the color and then let them pick the style. That the 3 different styles that they like will look really nice together.
  • Ditto PPs. Let them all wear the dress than makes them happy. Matchy-matchy is something that is slowly fading from weddings and having different styles and even colours can make for some lovely photos.
  • I agree with letting them choose their own style, but I even think you could let them choose a few different blue colors too.  I think it could look cute!

Yes- let them pick their own.

I told my BM's "David's bridal, cocktail length, midnight blue". One chose a calf-length dress in satin with wider straps, the other chose a strapless knee-length dress in cotton. I think they looked great.

If possible, have them go into a DB (even if you do order online anyway) and have them try a few styles on (they can do this on their own). My BMs looked at the online catalogue first and found a few styles they liked- some of them look great on the model but on them the fit was off.
  • Ditto PPs. Let them pick - either from those three or from any short DB style.  I think it's okay to specify the dress must be malibu if that's the color you like better.

The bridesmaids dress is the one big thing I would have changed about my wedding choices.  I really liked the one dress but I regret not going the designer/length/color route.  It would have made things a lot easier when everyone wound up living in four different places when it was time to order dresses.

  • let them pick their own, I'd say let them pick any short, chiffon DB in the color you choose, no need to limit to just those 3 unless those are the 3 the BMs each wanted.
  • I am a BM in my FSIL wedding and the dress my FMIL picked out was awful!  Myself and another BM tried it on and voiced our concerns to FSIL.  FMIL's 'vision' is for all the girls to be in matching dresses...so we were able to pick out a style that was more comfortable for everyone.  But I agree with PP, let them pick their own.  They will be more comfortable, and confident in a dress that they feel like a millions bucks in!
