VP Predictions

This is the big week where at minimum one candidate will announce their VP's.  Who do you think they pick?  I think it will be:

Trump/Gingrich
Clinton/Warren

The odds are against me according to PredictWise but I think Trump needs Gingrich's knowledge of how the legislature and executive office works and Clinton needs to unify the party with the Sanders supporters.

Re: VP Predictions

  • I hope Trump picks Pence so we won't have him for Governor anymore!

Only if the women of Indiana promise to spam the VP phone line if heaven forbid they win!

  • I think Trump/Gringrich (although how that man can be VP baffles me), but not Clinton/Warren. Probably Tim Kaine or Tom Perez. Warren is too progressive and even though she's stumped for Clinto I think she's said too many things critical of Clinton.

Weird.  Before I opened this thread, those were my exact pairings.

ha that is exactly what I've been saying too. At least it gets him out of the state although those two together in the WH......

Ironically, I think most people who dislike Snyder were glad when he fell off the VP list (although not happy for the reasons why obviously).

Most of Michigan has survived him for 6 years and can for 2 more, but we wouldn't do that to the nation.  But then again, I think Pence will drop his candidacy for his second term if he is chosen, so for that I can join you!  Snyder would have came right back.

  • I'd love Clinton/Warren but I'm realistic.  I think the general public might see them as too similar (whatever that means, I lean toward too many women on one ticket when I hear that).  I'd guess Julian Castro, even with the denials.

I'm less interested in Trump's pick but I think he's going to wind up someone seen more as a party-insider and with decent conservative bona fides.  Of the names I've seen, I think Jeff Sessions is likely.

    Stuck in Box:

In our case Pence is also up for re-election so it is one or the other, there is no going back even if they lost the Presidential election

Well hopefully, they won't be in the WH...

  • I'll be surprised if it is Warren, but pleased. I don't think she moves the dial much overall.

reports are saying it will be Pence announced tomorrow. That means even more political nonsense and 24/7 election crap on our news cycle from now through November :(

This. Sadly, I think there are too many men who still wouldn't vote for woman-woman ticket for it to happen. Also donor funding could be a issue with Warren on the ticket. Wish that didn't matter, but this election is going to be very expensive and crucial for down ticket candidates.

I think trump will reward his lap dog and pick Christie. Bc it makes no sense, and is a very trump move. If it is going to be pence, they are due waiting till the 11th hour for him to get in or out on the gov race.

That's what I heard.   I also heard rumors of Chris Christie.
  • I just saw Pence officially dropped his reelection campaign in Indiana.  Good news for the women of Indiana who prior to now are the only reason this guy received national attention.

Oh and this billboard was apparently just put up outside of the convention center:

he made a lot of headlines with RFRA (religious freedom restoration act) in 2015 although the thing that always annoyed me about the media around that was that he as governor should have vetoed the bill but why the heck did it get to his desk in the first place because there was so much controversy and shouldn't have made it out of the senate the way it was written

Outside of the convention center downtown Indianapolis? Oh Gawd!

No I believe Cleveland where the GOP convention is.

I read an interesting take on Vox today that essentially argued if it is Pence it's a signal Trump (or his "advisors") believe he can't win without reaching out to that religious right part of the base, but it's turning him away from the voters that got him through the primaries. A Christie or Gringrich pick would have been more in line with what he has been saying and doing when he's out campaigning whereas Pence is a signal he needs religious based voters.

    Oh! That makes more sense.
