I'm an OMH so could I spend my money on an insanely nice house in the best town in Long Island?  Renting this house in Queens is getting a little old.

If it has to be for a wedding, I like your idea of hiring a professional musician.  Our wedding was the day before DH's birthday, so maybe I would've had Metallica (his favorite band) come out and surprise him?
  • I wouldn't have changed very much. We looked into renting the entire island out, so that is a possibility. We decided against it since the resort only has 6 rooms and the property told us only half were booked up during our stay. Why spend an extra ~$20K when it's going to be somewhat private anyway?

I would have liked to have stayed longer on our HM as well . We had the money, just not the vacation time. So, if I was wealthy enough to not work, then that would have made me happy :) Or perhaps taking a private jet on our trip. But, we still would have had to take a helicopter and boat for part of the trip, so that would have been a slight waste of money.

  • H and I almost got married in Hawaii, just us - which we could've afforded, but chose not to so that our families could be with us. None of them could've afforded the trip. So, had money been no object, we would've gone to Hawaii to get married and flown out our parents and siblings and paid for their stay.
  • Would have loved to give our guests the works.... paid for everyone's hotel rooms and admission tickets (we got married in a museum where guests had the option of visiting before the wedding or day after), and treated everyone to brunch the next morning. Our reception venue puts out a gorgeous brunch spread but it just wasn't in the cards for us to hook it up for everyone.

And then selfishly, I would have planned an over-the-top honeymoon.

  • A honeymoon.  We didn't take one (just a few days where I slept the whole freaking time) due to DH's lack of PTO.  I have no idea where we would have gone if we'd had a week or longer and the funds, but that's the only thing I would have wanted.

Or a weather machine so it was a little warmer in the evening and we could have had a glorious sunset, but I have no idea what, if anything, better weather would have changed.  It's not like it rained during the ceremony, or was too cool for our guests.

Honestly, I don't think I would go back and change or add anything.  I have nothing but happy memories of the day.

  • I would have gotten married on Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands (BVI).    I love that place.

Other than that I wouldn't have changed much, if anything.   We had all the people we wanted to invite, great food, full open bar and lots of dancing.

No amount of money can change the weather and really that was the only thing that was disappointing when it came to my wedding.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • I would pay for transportation and accommodations for all of our guests, and I'd want the rehearsal dinner to be at a Mets game with all of the delicious Citi Field food

  • I would have paid for everyone's flights and hotel.  Would have been tricky, as everyone stayed in different places and for different times, but we had several people not make it and it would have been nice to have them there.  But that would have given us a huge wedding too, and I was happy we only had 40 guests

  • Honeymoon in Greece!

Wedding and reception at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with Michael Symon cooking! We'd pay for everyone's parking, car service for those who don't drive, and a hotel block at the Renaissance.

OMG!  I desperately missed Shea for a couple of seasons, but El Verano Taqueria's nachos are life-changing!  Almost takes away the sting of the $11 margarita   :D   Lets go Mets!
  • I don't know that I would have changed much, maybe hired a DJ and had more time at our venue.

Other than that, like other PP's, a longer honeymoon.

  • Easy.  Hire someone to do all the planning for me.  I have ideas but am too anxious about spending money and honestly, not all that creative.  Sometimes I feel like the wedding will turn out looking like 4th grade me did it (minus the giant fountain in the cake I wanted at that age).  I'd much rather have someone picking out three centerpieces and then me choosing one.
  • First class plane tickets and top of the line hotels for our honeymoon.

  • Would have taken a honeymoon and flown first class and super awesome hotels with balconies and crazy soft sheets.

Gotten married on the top of a mountain (one that tourists can access via gondola) in Banff/ Lake Louise, and paid the airfare for all of our guests to get there.
  • probably had a full bar instead of just beer and wine and invited about 20 more ppl.  That's really it.
  • Well, since the recessional for our ceremony was Thunder Road and our last dance song was Born to Run...if money were no object I guess I would've gone for a surprise performance by Bruce Springsteen!

If I could change anything from 40 years ago, I would have liked to serve a full meal at dinnertime instead of cake and punch.  I was on an extremely tight budget.  Selfishly, I would liked to have had more choice in my dress and have gone on an extended honeymoon.
    We did fine doing without.
I did get to see daughter have the choices that I did not.  Yay!

  • If it can be honeymoon related, we would've gone on some fabulous Italian honeymoon. No doubt I'd much rather spend more on honeymoon than wedding.

If you're just talking about the wedding, there's nothing I can think of that would be like a huge extravagant addition.  I agree that choosing a good band or musician for the wedding would've been great (especially since the DJ was my one big complaint for the wedding).  The only problem is that our reception was a little small, so I'm not sure a band would've fit comfortably.

So if I couldn't have the band (I know I'm being difficult), I would've paid for the photographer all day.  We could only afford to have her for the ceremony and a couple hours of the reception.  I would've paid for her to come early and take getting ready pictures and stay until we drove away from the reception.

  • I agree with PPs on honeymoon. We just got back from our belated honeymoon in the Smokey Mountains, which was incredibly nice. The touristy downtowns were a bit gimmicky, but we rented a cabin off a backroad with a beautiful view and spent most of our free time hiking trails in the National Park. If money had been no object, however, our original place we wanted to go was Alaska, and it would have been for a longer period than 3 days. Same basic idea, though -- secluded, luxurious private space in the middle of the wilderness. That's how we roll.

I love the Smokies.  If you don't already, follow Smoky Mountain Living Magazine on Facebook--they always post the most gorgeous photos.

If money were no object, we probably would have gotten married at the Chicago Botanic Garden, and then spent a month in Tahiti in one of those over water bungalows.
  • If money were no object, we would've gone on an awesome honeymoon. As it was, I didn't have enough PTO for wedding, his knee replacement, and a honeymoon so honeymoon has to wait til after my year anniversary.

Wedding - the only thing I'd change is maybe a better photographer and a more upscale meal/more apps. Other than that, everything was pretty good.
  • yeah, I'd get married in a historical site in Sleepy Hollow NY or something.  I hate writing that down because I truly love the venue we ended up with, but a castle or historic mansion would have been cool too.

I would pay for everyone's travel expenses. If I could have 2 things, I would add 20 more appetizers because those are always my favorite.
Mine too!  We got to choose 7 apps, and it was so hard to narrow it down to just 7.  My parents went with us to our tasting and they were telling everyone after the fact that  "food is great - but you'll want to try ALL the apps".

T.G.I.Friday's has $10 endless apps going on right now, which also happens to be our favorite spot.  I must stay away.

  • I loved our location, but if we had no object to money it would be at this place downtown. It's all windows and beautiful backdrop. Plus we'd pay for all parking and since there's a hotel nearby, we'd pay for anyone who wanted a room for the night :)

For reference this is inside and outside at night. Photos would have been amazing since it's near water!

Also we probably gone to a more pricey place for our honeymoon :)
