Wedding Woes

Monday, Monday

How was the weekend?

Ours was productive.  DH took the kids to the park Friday afternoon.  We went out to dinner afterward.

Saturday, I stayed in bed until after 11am and it was glorious.  I got up and pulled out some fall stuff.  I wore a dress and leggings with boots and I was so happy.  I went to Costco and Trader Joe's.  DH cleaned out the minibarn and garage so we can fit our cars in.  We went to Lowe's to look at options for replacing or repairing our reverse osmosis system in the kitchen (we've never used it and it's pretty old).  Once we get that done, we can get a new fridge (with ice and water! WOO!) I made beef stroganoff for the first time ever and it was delicious.  After dinner, I archived what we were taking to Goodwill, cleaned my room, and changed my sheets.

Sunday, we went to the pumpkin patch early. I ran to Meijer for a few items that I couldn't find at Trader Joe's/Costco.  I baked all afternoon (cookies, banana bread, and breakfast muffins for the week).  After that, just hanging out and I tried to go to bed early.

The kids went back to school today!  WOO!

Re: Monday, Monday

  • Weekend was fine. Saturday soccer Sunday an birthday party. I woke up with a head cold yesterday and it's awful. I hope it doesn't turn into an infection, but I'm not confident.

Funny random- Friday bil texted Dh and asked if we wanted to come over for a ham dinner at 4 on Sunday. It's oddly specific and random, but we had plans so say no.  Mil calls Dh at 4:10 Sunday. I'm thinking there was some big announcement or some other reason.  Nope she called from the ham dinner just to chat.

Went on an impromptu weekend trip (without H) to see H's grandparents/aunt/uncle since I am kinda close.  I know at this point I shouldn't think it's strange that his family has accepted me as one of their own, or that they would be happy to have me visit without DH, but I still can't get used to it.  It's weird having a big family.  I like it.

I went to church with H's aunt.  I'm not religious, and I don't have a lot of faith, so it was a little uncomfortable for me solely because I felt like an imposter... but then the pastor (or whomever he was) went on a rant about transgenders and people with tattoos and I got angry and upset at the intolerance.  This may just be one man's uninformed opinion, but most of the congregation was lapping it up, and it infuriated me.  Still makes me rage-y.  What happened to "love thy neighbor"?  I tuned the rest of the sermon out.

Other than that, it was a nice weekend.  Played with the little cousins (the number of sticks we threw in the creek...!), ate too much (grits WITHOUT sugar om nom), and heard lots of family history.  I got to wear my new blanket scarf and realized that, even though I know it's late October going into November, I absolutely did NOT pack the right kinds of clothes for being out here.

Monday, however, has not been off to a great start.  J wasn't supposed to be in this morning, but he decided to come in for a few hours, anyway, and when I started getting my materials together for the morning meetings, I apparently printed to the wrong office printer and the lecture I got made me feel completely stupid ("we don't have enough office supplies to support this every day, I showed you where to get this stuff and print it last week.").  Sigh.

The wedding I was in was Saturday. We drove up to the area on Friday, got our nails done, checked into the hotel, and had the rehearsal dinner. The wedding Saturday was really nice. The only problem was me. My pelvis is hurting so bad that standing, walking, or moving my legs is excruciating. Tylenol takes the edge off but I'm not sure I'm allowed to take the full days dosage of tylenol every day for the next 4 months until this baby is born.

Yesterday, we went to my mom's for lunch to celebrate my brother's birthday. It's the first time he's celebrated with her in close to 30 years. I'm so happy that she's finally building relationships with both of us.

Came into work this morning and couldn't log on to the computer. I called our IT dept and the guy there had no idea why. After someone else showed up, he called back to say they changed my name in the system! YAY! I just wasn't here Friday for them to tell me. And I found out that I'm getting a new computer! Double YAY! Everyone but me has gotten a new computer or at least a new monitor.
  • Morning folks!

Weekend was boring for the most part. H had to WFH all weekend, and I'm battling a wicked sinus cold so it was low-key.

Saturday did makeup for 2 people in a wedding. I'm not a hair person, but ended up doing their hair also. One girl had her hair changed before wedding, which is fine because I can't do shite with my own hair let alone someone else's lol

Sunday H was working again, but took more breaks {because he's beyond frustrated with things} and we headed to the dollarama. I planned on getting new headphones, but completely forgot. I did get mats for the front door, so that's progress. I wanted to get a bookshelf upstairs, but we're missing some anchors for the actual shelves. Hoping to get them from ikea but not sure.
Friends of ours stopped over. They were at family dinner, which is just a street over so sometimes either she or both swing by.
    Found out the guy's sister is expecting next spring :) That's exciting. Hasn't really hit H's buddy he's going to be an uncle, and my friend and I both figure that will happen when he holds the baby {he's never held a newborn or been around kids much, so this will be a learning experience}

Tonight is just laundry and hoping to get through at least one box in the living room. At some point I want to get all the frames out and start figuring out what photos to print, but we still have a photo shoot that I'll want photos of ...
  • Happy Monday!

Friday we finally sold my mom's van.  It had been up for sale since August.  We had the usual Craigslist crazies, including a lady who asked how much the down payment was and what we would take for monthly payments.  Our neighbor across the hall bought it.  We were glad to be done and have money in hand.

About 8 PM my mom calls and says she thinks she needs to go to the ER.  She had been out with friends and when she got up from the table the chair rolled backwards before she was on her feet.  She ended up falling on her right arm and thought she may have broken it.  DH and I picked her up and drove her to the ER.  She cracked it in 2 places just above her wrist and is in a temporary cast.  Re-x-ray in 7-10 days and then a more traditional cast.  She wasn't in much pain so that was good.  We had already made plans with her for a drive and hiking on Saturday so left it that we'd see how she was feeling in the morning.

Saturday Mom felt fine and wanted to go on our outing.  We hiked at a state park where they have lookouts over the Mississippi river.  The weather was perfect and the trails were busy but not crowded.  Stopped for lunch in little town where my dad grew up and then headed out to see my brother at his campsite.

Sunday I ran a couple of errands for Mom while DH watched the Vikings lose (first loss of the season  :( .  I made an egg bake for supper and took it to Mom's.  We hung out while it baked and then played dominoes after dinner.  Got home in time to go to bed and BAM it's Monday again!

Need to do laundry tonight and do some meal planning for the week.

I had a fantastic weekend and a shitty one at the same time.

Thursday in Green Bay was a freaking hoot. We had a blast, despite the Bears. Here I am at the game.

    Displaying IMG_0915jpg

On Friday, we went to this cute little zoo in Wisconsin and stopped for sausage and cheese on our way home.

Saturday morning I woke up to a call that my friend Brian had died. He and his wife are the kind of people who you just feel comfortable with instantly and their warmth and happiness is contagious. I'm so sad. We're planning out the logistics of going to the wake and funeral (about eight hours from here).

Saturday night we had our Halloween pub crawl. That too was a blast and THE CUBS ARE GOING TO THE WORLD FUCKING SERIES! I loved being in a bar when we won and everyone hugging and highfiving and shit. Tons of fun. Here's us PIR contestants, Bob and a Barker's Beauty. I'm 701 (win my eyes closed, nice).

  • It was a really great weekend here!

Friday we went out to a very nice dinner at a remarkably affordable new(ish) place.  Then we had a couple of friends over for drinks and catching up.  We shared stories from our recent trip and got the latest info on one friend's relationship progress.  He spent some time in his home town this summer and reconnected with an old flame who is now going to be moving out here in November to be with him!  (That wasn't new information, but we got to hear more about the particulars.)  She seems like a really awesome person and we are all super excited for him!

Saturday was pretty relaxed during the day and then a party at an offbeat art gallery some friends run in the evening.  It was an absolute blast!  Met lots of new people and strengthened some bonds, which is an objective we have had since several of our closest friends moved away in the last year.

Sunday we finally went apple picking, and it was perfect!  The weather was in the mid-50s and sunny, which is exactly what you want for a fall-centered activity like that.  The orchard was also hosting the first annual state-wide hard cider festival, so we got to try all sorts of great locally-produced ciders.  Made spaghetti and meatballs for dinner and had another friend over to eat it with us. I also got my new wire shelf all set up and populated with all my home-canned products plus canning supplies.  I am stoked about my new "preservation station" to an embarrassing degree.  It's SO organized and SO pretty!

This week is going to be an 80+ hour week for FI.  He has been stressing for quite a while about how he will even be able to find enough hours in a day to accomplish everything that has to happen.  On the plus side, the event he is producing is at a relatively fancy hotel downtown and his company is putting him up in a room to ever-so-slightly offset the long hours.  I'll join him at night, and we will get to do a mini-getaway a few miles from home.

    Sorry about your friend SSC

Hope all with any ills gets better soon!

Our weekend was productive.  Saturday we ran some errands, hit up church, and I made H one of his favorite dinners of steak and twice baked potatoes.  The steaks were thin but had to stay on the grill for much longer because it was so windy and cold!  Only the actual grates were cooking the meat!  It was crazy!

Sunday we did our final grass cut of the year.  I got to cut back the rose bushes and we picked up all the random sticks and trash that floated into our yard.  We also got the outdoor chair cushions up in their storage place.

Then it was inside to relax and watch the Eagles kick some Viking butt (sorry MNNEBride!)  Then it was showering and off to dinner.  We ate at one of our favorite Italian places.  I had the special of ricotta stuffed homemade rigatoni with shrimp and crabmeat in a vodka sauce.  OMG!  It was so delicious!  The portions are huge, so usually I only eat half of my dinner.  But baby must have had other ideas because I ate the whole thing! nom nom nom!

The crib arrives today, which is the good news.  But H just found out he has to start driving a bus route for his job until they can hire a full time driver.  He is a back up bus driver.  He will need to pick up his student just before 6 AM to get them to a school about an hour away.  Which he will also have to do in reverse in the afternoon.  And the school that he drops off to is about 45 minutes from his office.  Fingers crossed he will get some overtime instead of comp time since he will definitely be working more than his usual hours.

Lastly, we take our hot mess of a dog Betsey back to the Orthapedic vet tonight for another check up.  Hoping she can start getting out of her shoulder contraption soon!

  • Btw after I did makeup for friends for the wedding, I decided to start testing out diff makeup ideas for Hallowe'en
This one I walked downstairs and it went like this:
    H: you look creepy.
    Me: good creepy?
    H: creepy.
    Me: talented creepy?
H: talented enough to creep me out.
    Me: I'll take it.

  • I was off on Friday, so I went to the movies. I saw Birth of A Nation. I can't handle anymore slave movies, yo. No mas.

I had a date on Friday with Mr. Millennial. He's calling more but still loves to text. smh. I'm trying to convert him.

Sunday was church, cleaning and a wonderful nap to prepare for The Walking Dead. Man, it was intense.

    fun weekends, guys!

Friday, FI and I went to paint nite.  It was a lot of fun. Only thing was, our instructor kept on blocking what she was doing up front, so 1.5 hours into it, I was getting bored anyway, and pulled out my phone, looked at the sample picture and just did my own thing.  Still fun,.

Saturday I had lunch with my friend and her daughter, put a costume together last minute and went to my friends costume party. The decorations and food were out of this world. FI only made 1 hour of it, and then had to leave for work.

Sunday, I was hung over and tired but managed to go to Jo Ann Fabrics and Michael's and sephora for the last minute wedding supplies and make up and now I have everything laid out on the guest bed.  Just have to pack it into a suitcase.  I stayed in most of the day and watched wentworth.  FI came in from work Sunday night sick as a dog.  I'm still teetering on am I sick? or is this just a scratchy throat?  so I was basically in don't touch me mode because I don't recover as quickly as he does and I'm being really really careful this week.

I'm WFH again - cold from hell turned bronchitis seems to have come back with a vengeance. It never fully went away. but seems to have gotten worse in the last 3 or 4 days.Hoping this doesn't require another cycle of drugs and doesn't turn into something worse.

Hoping the work will be finished this week. really want my house back. I might go test out the new tub despite the work in the bathroom not being done. sometimes that hot water soak helps with the cold/congestion.

We did a date night over the weekend, which was nice - celebrating our 10th anniversary (it was the 14th). Went to our favorite Italian place.

The weekend was great, overall.  My H and I went out to a breakfast on Saturday.  It was okay/mediocre, but it was a mystery shop, so I'll get reimbursed for it.  The ambience was lovely and they had "cheater" booths with plush, comfy chairs!  Loved it.  We sat in one.  For those not familiar with the concept, they are partially enclosed booths that have curtains that can be drawn in the front to totally close them off.  In fun, the idea that cheaters can take their paramours out for a meal and close the curtain so the public/friends don't see them out with another man/woman.

I was proud of myself.  I bought information and software about arbitraging textbooks on Amazon, ie buy textbooks, trade them in for profit.  I FINALLY went through the materials and played with the software a bit yesterday.  I'm feeling "hesitantly" very excited about my new endeavor.  I'm going to jump in tonight and see what happens.

    --------------------------------------------------------

Today has been awful.  We got our 2017 Benefits info at work.  My portion of the healthcare premium is more than doubling from $46/month to $108/month.  That's for just me and my H.  The deductible...before the insurance pays ANYTHING is going from $6K to $8K.  And the Out of Pocket Max. is going from $6450 to $12,800.  More than doubling.  So, basically, I'm paying $1300/year for worthless insurance I would only use in a major catastrophe.  And I'm sure that is just a drop in the premium bucket compared to what my company is paying for my policy.  Of course, that is also on top of the $3,000/year I pay for my prescriptions/doctor visits/labwork.

I needed to get gas at lunch.  And I was bummed and angry about the insurance.  So I say f**k it and buy two hot dogs, a bag of Funyuns, and a 44 oz. Diet Mt. Dew at the gas station.  Most unhealthy lunch ever.

Except there is ridiculous construction work right outside my job.  This area has insane traffic during the week...on a good day.  Now one lane is closed in each direction.  As I'm trying to quickly make my illegal left turn...because, surprise, the U-turn right before the light was blocked off...my 44 oz. drink went flying.  The lid came entirely off and spilled all over my front passenger floor.  I get to work and waste 5 minutes soaking up as much as I can with the one towel I have in my trunk.  At least it was diet, so it wasn't sticky (sigh).

I get back to the office and hit my elbow , hard!, against the metal door jamb because I'm trying to juggle all the stuff I am carrying...while using my badge...and trying to get the main door open.

So now I am sitting at my desk.  In a funk.  With a slight headache, my elbow hurting, 40 minutes of errands to run after work, and I just really want to be at home taking a nap.

@GBCK thanks for the info. Like you said, they're all different. I see my high-risk specialist Wednesday so I'll let him know what's going on and see what he'll do. My OB is a bit irritated with me that I don't have a PCP, but I rarely get sick so I don't have one. Hopefully, the perinatologist will help me out.

Sorry about your day S+S.  I hope it gets better.

Try looking on the open market place for insurance.

We have been telling my MIL for years about checking into the market place.  Her work was almost doubling their insurance premiums and a co-worker told her to look there.  Slap me upside the head but she actually found a cheaper and better plan through the market place!  I mean, why didn't anyone think of that sooner?????

Another thing to look into is if your H is eligible for his own plan. My employer was going to force employees to pay extra per month if their spouse was eligible for their own plan at work.

And lastly, shop separately for you and your H's plans on the market place.  My friend had a premie (2 years old now!) and she has 12 different doctors.  It is cheaper for the daughter to have her own plan for insurance rather than try to have her on either of the parents plans.

  • @short+sassy that stinks about the insurance. I work for a health insurance broker so I can't say I am surprised to see yours go up that much, although usually with our clients it is either a jump in premiums or a jump in the deductible amounts. If both jump it means their rates went way up or the company had been eating rate increases for years and finally had to pass it along. Even though it doesn't help, I see some employers make people pay way more than $108/month for that same coverage level :(   Still doesn't take the sting away though.  Do they contribute to your HSA at all?

I'm really surprised all of these people are finding cheaper + better coverage on the marketplace because they can't get subsidies if their employer offers them affordable coverage and usually the non-subsidized plans are more than you would pay at the employer. I'm glad people are looking though, if nothing else you need to be a smart consumer, and if they are finding better options that is great.
  • K had a show both Friday night and Saturday night.  Friends came to the Friday night show and I drank waaaaaaaaaaay too much.  It was a fun night, but Saturday was basically all day sleeping and recovery.  Saturday was her 2nd show and that went really well.  It looks like she might be picking up a regular booking.  The host is also the promoter of the pageant she's running for in December and was really interested in making sure of her package and any questions she had.  This is good, b/c we had been hearing not-so-great things from the rumor mill and this weekend seems to have proven that the rumor mill was full of BS.  Plus, said promoter is in love w/my idea for her talent number, so we're going to try and make it work.

Rest of the weekend spent moving, organizing, and merging K's stuff into the apartment.  We've got a good "donation" and "storage" pile going.  Most everything is moved in except for a few more small pieces of furniture, then the big move into storage, and then set up for donation, and we're finished.  Hopefully, everything is finished on Wednesday.

The job search continues, frustratingly enough.

I was going to talk to a broker and see if he would be better off on it.  Or if we both would.  But I got the impression that, if you can get a plan from your employer, you can't get one off the marketplace.  Or maybe you just can't get a subsidy?  Which, in my marketplace, would be a huge "no go".  The cheapest plan is even worse than my employer's and costs $750/month for two (without a subsidy).

If I did the "employee only" plan, my monthly portion would be $48/month and the deductible and OOP would go WAY down.  My H has zero medical expenses each year, but I do.  I'd love to find a way to drop him off my plan, but without him being totally out in the cold JIC something terrible happened.

Of course, the irony is, if we weren't married, it would be much better.  At least in this regard.  He doesn't work and his income is zero.  So he could get a plan with a big subsidy on the marketplace.  I've also heard there are insurance carriers who are not part of the marketplace.  Maybe that would be the way to go.

But I'm not holding my breath on any of that.

I do max out my HSA, but my employer does not contribute anything to it.  Speaking of.  Further vent.  HSA maxes for the year for families did not increase from this year.  WTF?!?  Why not?  I know the government is not blind to the fact that High Ded. plans are the new "name of the game".  And that healthcare costs are the most grossly inflated part of our economy.  The HSA max should equal whatever their own self-imposed OOP max limit is for insurance companies.  Instead of the meager 25ish% of that.

    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • @short+sassy yea you can go on the Marketplace even if your employer offers coverage but you can't get a subsidy so usually it wouldn't be a good deal for anyone. Since your employer offers affordable coverage your husband can't get a subsidy either.

There are off market , non ACA plans that are cheaper. They are usually just short term coverage though and again wouid probably not be better than your work plan - it's usually more catastrophic coverage with maybe a few preventive visits thrown in (maybe).

Single HSA max didn't go up the previous year so it was good it bumped a little for 2017. I wonder if both will go up for 2018 but who knows.

    Hi WW Knotties!  Today sucked!

I'm struggling to keep my largest account while my competitor has jacked their prices way too low.  I'm pretty sure they know my company will bottom out to keep said account so they're just throwing shit at a wall and figuring it will cost us profit.  My customer was just bought out last year and are being pressured to take the lowest bid despite being the most profitable plant in the company.  And the new company doesn't care that we've been a proven supplier and partner for 6 years or that they have never had a production failure under our watch.  Ugh, selling to automotive manufacturers is seriously so hard.

Weekend was okay.  I worked a Bar Mitzvah on Saturday which was a nightmare.  We had two call offs and one walk off (because she doesn't clean up after people - that pissed me off) plus 90 13 year olds.  Did I mention this was a nightmare?  Birth Control times infinity; my feet are still sore today from working.

OOH and we have 4 people officially attending our wedding!

LOL - I'm sorry, but what?

Weekend was okay.   Friday I was offered a job for the winter on the mountain.   Saturday - ran errands and just chilled.

Sunday - watched football and worked a halloween party.   Which was also the last day of the "season". Club is closed until Thanksgiving.

Today was DH's surgery. They called us to ask us to come in early.  Woohoo.  We were there at 11:50 instead of 12:45.   We didn't get home until after 8pm.  What??   Things went well, but took longer.  Then the post-op nurse forgot about us.  Then she was so slow.

Anyway, we are at home.  DH is still coming down from anesthesia.    He is so funny on anesthesia.   I made a crock-pot of mini-meatballs for tonight.   DH invited pretty much every person he saw to come to dinner.  LOL.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.

@lyndausvi Yes! And this is going to sound so mean but her day job is working for the breakfast and lunch cafe that shares a kitchen space/name with the caterer. Like what exactly do you think you normally do all day?  I literally responded with "oh so this is beneath you?"  Yes, you're being paid today to walk around with a tray and clear tables, but to the family that is paying for you, you're allowing them to relax and enjoy and celebrate an important milestone in their child's life.

I'm glad your H's surgery went well!  Knee right?  Hopefully he has an event free recovery. I love funny people post surgical drugs!  Congrats on the job too!

    @CharmedPam - is your wedding this weekend?!?1
I leave Saturday for NY, where we're having it.  It's actually on Tuesday, the 1st!

I'm LOLing at BC x infinity.  Totally right there with you.
