Recommendations for shopping for a dress in Austin?: X posted to Texas-Austin Local Board

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions for stores to shop at in Austin? I'm not interested in a big white dress, our ceremony will be very informal. I'm looking for knee or floor length, not super formal, and not necessarily white. So even a dress store, not necessarily bridal oriented would work.

I live in Alaska, went to UT for grad school back in 2000-2003. Visiting with my fiancé Nov 3-10 and I am positive Austin has better selection and pricing than Alaska. Thought I'd try to visit 2 stores or so, nothing crazy but enough to figure out what I might want.

We do have a David's Bridal here, but I'm seeing what all my options are before shopping at home

Thanks!

  • This is an international board so you might have better luck posting on the Texas board. That being said, you look at stores like Macy's, Nordstrom, Saks. I'd look in their nicer dresses area. That is where I found my MOB dress that didn't look like a MOB dress! Good luck!
  • Thanks! Had no idea there were local boards. I pretty much only ever visit the Etiquette board. Will try over there and also see what's on the Alaska board.

We do have a Nordstrom's here so if all else fails that's where I'll shop- free shipping and free returns are a huge plus when it comes to shopping online and living in Alaska.

  • Woohoo, hello fellow Alaskan! The Alaska board hadn't been posted in in literally years. There is a David's in Anchorage. My sister found her dress there. There's also a couple boutiques in Anchorage. I don't know of anything specific though. I ordered my dress online.
  • I saw that the Alaska board is rather quiet. Did get a good tip on Alaska Airlines Tour set up though. I've visited David's with friends but I'd like more options so since I'm traveling I'm going to see what all there is out there. I am guessing I'll probably end up online shopping too, but I want to try on a few dresses first.
