DefConn has a cold with a gnarly cough.  It's not slowing him down much and he doesn't have a fever.  But his cough was worrying me last night.  :(  I hate when I'm unsure when to haul them in or let it ride.  I gave him cold meds this morning to get through the day.

My sister did take the kids to dinner and out to the speedway to see the light displays.  DH and I went to dinner.  We had a productive conversation about what he's going to do about job searching in the new year.   We also did a little shopping for the kids.

DH is likely going to have to work on NYE (overnight).  I'm bitter as fucking hell about it.  In the grand scheme, it's really not a HUGE deal since we don't have plans or anything.  But who does this shit 3.5 weeks out?!  I told DH to tell them we bought party tickets or something.

And, I used my powers for good last night.  I work in customer service in the travel industry.  My friend put Orbitz on blast via FB for changing the policy on a reservation (it was supposed to be a free cancel and then when she went to cancel, they said she'd have to pay 1 night).  I told her what to say and how to say it and who to reach out to and bring attention to her problem.  I also posted the name of the CEO and SVP and their regional customer service manager in her post.  Orbitz commented that she should PM them.  ;)

ETA: My friend is getting her refund!  :D

Re: Wednesday!

  • @mrsconn23  way to work those customer service powers! Hopefully it gets fixed :)

Basically nothing last night. M called people - his dad, his nanny and his uncle - about holiday season coming up. He decided to book the 22nd and 23rd off to go see his dad since he now lives like 2hrs away. I told him I wished he had said we'd go after xmas so I could go.
Also, we had a serious convo about M's job hunting {or lack there of ...} and I told him why I keep bugging him to look. He bitches about diff things constantly - not proper pay scale, not getting paid, way things 'function', etc - but doesn't do anything about it. Needless to say, I said he had to stfu about it if he is going to do nothing about it because I will smack the hell out of him.

Tonight is likely not much as well. I have to call my granny and I wanna watch the PVR of the VS Fashion Show from Monday.

I'm also trying to figure out why I cannot kick this cold! I swear, it's just been lingering since October and every so often it'll flare up and I feel awful, then just sleep.
I googled - thinking it could give me SOMETHING - and only 2 things that could be a possibility are lack of sleep and low immune system.
I'll try sleep and go from there lol
  • Morning!

Nice job on working it @mrsconn23 :)

@MissKittyDanger have you been to the doctor? They may be able to give you an antibiotic or something to kick it if it's turned into a sinus infection.

Not much for me today. Last night I went home and firmly planted myself on the couch with my dogs and didn't get up except to refill my drink :) Somehow I always forget that This Is Us comes on at 9 (I always thought it came on at 10) and I end up missing it. I have it set to DVR though and I will definitely be watching tonight. I heard it was amazing last night.

Tonight is our church's annual Christmas party for all the volunteers. They usually have good food and other fun stuff going on. So after work I will be running home to shower and get fixed up. I could have done that this morning, but I didn't want my jerk coworker to get that kind of satisfaction, and I certainly don't want to hear his commentary on my appearance again.

  • Last night we started to decorate the tree.  Added the lights and ornaments.  Then I went to put the lighted star on the top just before the garland.  I had to trim off a few branches in order to clip the star to the top.  Well guess who accidentally cut one of the light wires?  Yup, this girl!  So the whole top strand of lights went out.  We have an extra set of lights to put up, but that probably means un-decorating the top half to safely get that strand off and new strand on.  I'm contemplating striping the cut wire portion, wrapping the wires together and then putting some electrical tape over that.  But I realize the fire hazard that is.  H was great and told me not to worry and we would get it set right, but it was just so frustrating!

Tonight I have yoga after work.  Might be our last class here since not enough people have signed up for the next session starting in January.  I can still see this teacher at the local yoga studio, but its been very convenient to just have to change and go to our seminar room for yoga once a week.

H needs to take Betsey to her regular vet check-up.  She will get a shot in the kiester for her troubles!  We also have some questions for the vet since she is an older dog, we want to make sure we are doing everything we can for her to stay healthy and happy.

I put some beef cubes in the crock pot to make dinner easier tonight.  All H will have to do is make a side of some sort.

Since Betsey has the vet and I yoga, H & I switched cars today.  He has a Camaro and I don't think we can switch much more after today.  I could barely get out of the car!  I'm not even that big, belly-wise, but it took a bit of effort to get out and I felt out of breath walking into work!

  • @MissKittyDanger have you tried emergen-C or other similar product?

I have been awake since about 3:30 because I can not get my head to turn off. I found out yesterday that it might be June! before we can get the dog overseas. All because, 2.5 years ago, I chose to get him the 3 year rabies shot and the uae doesn't accept the 3 year. I am distraught about it, I don't want to be without my dog for 6 months. I don't want to be away from my husband anymore either. The dog and I are about to go to the vet to get his FAVN test done so I will be able to ask them about options. Maybe they can give it to him early??? I am afraid there will be travel restrictions in June due to heat.
  • @thefanciestbeckler  I've been hoping to not go because the stuff I have works, it's just not killing whatever I have. I may have to go soon though :(
I missed last night's ep and likely watching it tomorrow :) It's fall finale so I'm curious what'll happen! I'm really impressed by the show
  • @missJeanLouise I often get my dog the 3 year shot every 2 years just because I am paranoid about rabies.  We have it in our area and my sister was once attacked by a raccoon.  She needed the rabies shots since they were unable to catch the actual raccoon that did it to test them for rabies.  My dog was also there to help fight off the raccoon and because she was up on her shots, she was ok.  Do they only accept a 1 year vaccine?
  • Good morning.  Woke up to a nice dumping of snow.  We needed the snow bad.

I have today off, but back to work tomorrow.    We are still in a holding pattern at the restaurant (supplies haven't be delivered, last minute construction going on, just general re-opening chaos.  I feel kind of useless at times. We (hopefully) will open up on Saturday.  Yet, I haven't really been told how to do a lot of stuff, let alone train the staff.    Thursday and Friday is going to be interesting.

Today I will be resting.  My sore throat from Saturday is now in the cough phase.  I might call for an appointment to get stronger cough medicine because OTC stuff just isn't working.     I'm going to have a crazy next 5 days and can't afford to be sicker than I'm already am.

Randomness - Just saw on GMA there is a Tinder-like app for planes.  So you can connect with others on a plane.   I guess I'm old and just do not get the appeal.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Holy shit @MNNEBride!  How scary!  I'm glad he's OK.  ((hugs))
  • @OliveOilsMom Unfortunately, they only accept the 1 year. It fills me with hope that they might be able to give him the 1 year sooner. Thank you!
  • Thanks for all the good vibes yesterday; H said the interview went super well. He's being considered for 2 different positions so he's pretty confident he'll get called for an in-person interview. They're moving fairly quickly so it could be as early as next week. He was pretty excited, which is rare because he so even keeled he doesn't really get excited by many things.

Other than that there have been a few break-ins in our neighborhood, all when people are not at home, looking for unlocked doors and windows, or breaking a window to open a door, but it's leaving me a little on-edge. H is heading out of town to hunt again this weekend and I'm not loving the idea of being home alone. I'm pushing hard for a security system if/when he gets a new job.
  • @missJeanLouise  I haven't. I've heard of it, but never had it. What's it do?

@MNNEBride  scary situation for your H! Glad it was treated quick and he's on the mend

@OliveOilsMom  Poor Betsey getting a shot :( Have fun at yoga! :) Is it hard to keep up being pregnant?

@lyndausvi  I don't get appeal either unless someone is running late and misses the flight .... also for sore throat, do you have any lemon tea with honey? That's my go-to drink lol
  • @MissKittyDanger - I have a distinct cold process.

Day one - sore throat, swollen glands.

Day 2 - just swollen glands, sneezing, runny nose and very tired.

Day 3 - runny nose, coughing (keeps me up at night)

Day 4 onward - runny nose isn't as bad but cough is pretty frequent.   Keeping me up a night, abs hurt type coughing.   I even moved to the guest room not to wake up DH.  That was after taking OTC medicine.

So I'm on day 5 right now.   Throat feels okay (a little horse), it's just the cough that is the problem.    One thing I found interesting, while doing my hike to work (1:20 uphill in the cold) I'm not coughing.  At the top I start up again.  When we finally open I will be working around food, so I need to get in under control.    I mean, who likes seeing food personnel hacking?

  • @ShesSoCold I feel your pain on the makeup thing. People are so rude. Also, I could definitely see how having a dream where your mom was still alive would be kind of comforting in a weird way.

  • Tinder for a plane? Has anyone actually considered the "mile high club" concept? I'm petite and can't imagine having two adults in a plane bathroom with room to get busy. Plus there's always mystery fluid on the floor by the time I get there and just... no.

My chit chat for the day is that I've been investigating a severe conduct issue with a student since Friday. The student is lying. through. her damn. teeth. I really want to just say in person, "THE JIG IS UP STOP LYING" but alas I must remain professional. She's getting on my nerves because she obviously thinks she's smarter than school administration. It is as plain as the nose on my face she cheated off a relative in the same program. Just own up to it! Most conduct issues I work on, the student knows they've gotten caught and either apologize or come up with every excuse on the planet to try to justify what they did. This student just keeps lying. UGHHH.

Also ... guessing you're not a fan of your stepdad's new wife?

@lyndausvi  might be cold air helping you breath. When I was sick awhile ago with a lung thing, it was always either cold air or steamy air that make it feel better.
    Halls or ricola?

This is pretty much the opposite of my life goals.

I want to be as far away as possible from other people on a plane.

Don't you know 19 year old college students know absolutely everything and are far more intelligent than literally everyone else?

Plagiarizers (I'm assuming that's what happened here) are the worst. Like you really don't think we can tell this work is word for word the same as someone elses?!

You know, Halls and ricola have never helped me.    Nyquill and Dayquill have given me some short term relieve.

The best relieve I seen to get is Muscinex and prescription cough medicine.    I'm lucky, I rarely get sick. I never hit my deductible each year.  When I do, I kind-of know what works.  Getting the appointment is the problem.

Lucky. I feel like I'm sick from September (allergies) until spring lol At this point it's a coin flip on what works
  • I have talked to this damn recruiter like 3x a day for the last 2 weeks.  I left her a message at 11 pm last night, and no call back.  I kinda need to know if I'm going to orientation in an hour, or if I can take a nap. (<priorities here)

The kiddo is booked solid this week, which I hate--but her OT just called in sick, so we guyt a buy week on that, which is OK.
My family is all being weird, my sisters and I are having to have a 'is mom loosing her grip on reality again?' huddle, and we don't have christmas planned.

But my entire stress ball is rotating around whether or not I'm offered excessive insurance for this gig right now.
  • MNNE - glad H is on the mend!  I hope he keeps getting better with no further set backs!

Charlotte - do you have a dog?  Barking dogs typically will scare away attempted burglars.  I really think Olive prevented a break in at my old house.  It was summer, but not hot, so I had the windows open.  There were some break ins, in the neighborhood at the time too.  I came home to find a freaked out Olive who messed on the carpet and pushed in blinds at 2 windows and a screen that was pulled away from the window.  There were also some scratches on the outside.  I was lucky because if they picked the bedroom window, they would have had access to that whole room as I always closed the door because Olive would sleep on my bed otherwise (she is not allowed!).

MKD - I can do yoga right up until the birth.  I just have to modify positions at times.  I can no longer lay on my belly, so I have an alternate position I hold when the instructor will give those ones.  I also can't twist in my waist as much, since there are important ligaments and muscles that loosen in the waist during pregnancy that cannot be overstretched or strained.  My regular instructor has known since I was 6 weeks and she had been quietly modifying my positions, so my co-workers didn't find out until around 12 weeks when I formally told my job.  I also don't do hot yoga and stick with the slower flow classes.  I may take a prenatal class as one of my twice per week classes, but I haven't decided yet, since I've been ok going to regular classes (and prenatal ones cost more).  Generally, I have no problems keeping up, but I have pregnancy induced carpal tunnel, so holding myself up on my wrists like in downward dog is a little painful - but I just use padding under my wrists for those times.

  • I just picked m2 up at school because she wasn't feeling well. I needed milk so thought maaaaybe we could make it. Nope. She puked in the parking lot.

I I didn't know what to do so I asked someone walking in if the could let the store know there was a mess.  The greeting came right out said it was fine, not to worry, they'd get it cleaned up. Then he asked how my kid was. I still feel bad but what else can I do?  Well, I can sort of hope the creepy guy that always scares my kids is the one that has to clean it up
  • @OliveOilsMom, yes we have a 50lb black lab/border collie, who sounds far scarier than he is. I think he'd scare away any burglar, and we leave all our outside lights on at night.
  • Poor M2!!  :(  I hope it's short-lived.

LOL at wanting creepy weird guy to clean it up.  ;)

Oh it gets worse. It was initially plagiarism but extends into conduct because she's in nursing and the paper was supposed to be about a real patient. We don't put fraudsters out into the profession, I can tell ya that!
Woah, that's really bad. Yah, she really shouldn't be doubling-down on the lying in that case. There is no way this ends well for her, right?
