Maybe it's not a good roommate fit?

Re: Maybe it's not a good roommate fit?

  • When I first started dating my SO, we started our work days about an hour apart (like, he had to be in before 8 and I was typically coming in at 9/9:30). After a few sleepovers where I stayed after he left and relaxed in his room or something, his roommate asked that I not be there when he (my SO) wasn't home. Did we both think it was kind of a silly request? Yeah, we did - why would it bother roommate that I spent an extra hour in their home, locked up, and turned off the lights before I left, but it did so we stopped. I got a lot of kudos for coming into work early a few times a week

I actually see this as a very different situation, and would not be comfortable with a roommate leaving their SO in the apartment without an express conversation about that first. You're not on the lease, it's not your home, why should you get to stay when he's not there? If something broke/happened when you're there it could cause problems with the landlord/homeowner or holding you responsible. If he didn't know you, there's a stranger alone with him in his house without his consent.

I get that it's more convenient and if he lived alone that would be his decision, but I definitely can see why his roommate would be angry that you were there without your SO.
