Jackett or shrug for dress with cap sleeves?

I fell in love with a very simple dress with "cap sleeves" but the cap sleeves seem more like thick straps to me.

I have a couple tattoos on my arm though and I like to keep them covered for the most part.

Is there any kind of jacket that would be acceptable to wear with this type of dress? Can I extend the cap sleeves? I'm really not sure what my options are..


I can change the belt/sash to match a jacket if I found one.

Your dress is beautiful...I especially like the top (waist up) and feel a jacket or shrug would take away from it.  Can your seamstress or tailor extend the sleeves?  I'd go that route. 
I assume you tried the dress on before you bought it- what advice did the dress consultant give when you then?

I would have a dressmaker add sleeves- adding a shrug or jacket would ruin this.

I don't believe the consultant was very experienced and she said to wear a jacket lol.  I thought that a jacket would take away from it which is why I am looking at other options.  

I wonder what kind of sleeves we could add though because I still want to keep it fairly simple.  Chiffon? Satin?

Chiffon- same fabric as the dress. I'd keep them fairly sheer, you tattoo would show but be veiled.

I agree with the PP in that a full jacket would wreck it... I'd opt for the seamstress to create a sleeve for it (most bridal shops can order extra fabric)..

I think that would look great. Your dress is gorgeous, and a simple, tulle bolero like that would still allow the structure of the dress to come through. Are you thinking of wear it just for the ceremony or the entire time?

That dress is beautiful!  Out of curiosity, why do you want to cover your tattoos?

Of the links, I like the plainer ones more but agree to talk to a seamstress first, especially if you want them covered all night.

I agree that I would find an experienced, confident seamstress to add sleeves. It shouldn't be that hard.

Ifit's out of budget, the simpler shrugs look nice and maybe the seamstress could even add a little beading to match the belt of the dress and make it look like a set.

I like the tulle bolero you posted, or the lace one CMG posted. I think either would work well and still allow you to see the shape/style of the dress.
