Unity Cross but our Officiant is not a Pastor?

Hello,

I am in love with the idea of having a unity cross as a part of our ceremony, however, our officiant is not a pastor/minister/etc. Does he have to be in order for us to incorporate the unity cross into the ceremony?

If you haven't gotten married yet, I  wouldn't think so. You and the groom make the cross, right? I wouldn't think you would need a pastor for that.
