    I don't mind paying taxes.

I also hate that people do not understand the projected refund/amount owed that is displayed on tax programs is just that, a projection based on the information that has been inputted.    They get all upset that their "refund" was reduced when they add more information.

For example, I put in DH's stuff first.  It said we would get a $7K refund.   Then I added my stuff and it went down.  DH was so pissed.   Acting like it's my fault.   Umm, no your fake refund was based on the program not having all the information yet.

A friend was pissed her refund went down when she put in her W2 for her summer job that she hated.    Umm, again.  The summer job didn't lower your refund.  Had you inputted the summer job stuff first then the others the end number would still be the same.  Doesn't matter, in her mind that summer job is the reason she got a lower refund.

People, just ignore that number as it means nothing until ALL the information is inputted.

Or are all excited when they get a huge refund.  Sure, it's nice to get a big chunk of money at once...but it also means they were giving the government a large interest-free loan all year.  No thanks.  It seems like some people purposely use tax refunds as their forced savings account.  No thanks, again.
    that too.

Back when I lived in the USVI refunds could take YEARS to get.  YEARS.   No thank you.  I worked on tips with the winter/spring being the most money.  Summer so-so and fall just sucked.  I used the IRS withholding calculator through out the year to try and be  +/- $300.   I took more out in the winter/spring.  Less in the fall.    Owing $300 wasn't a budget buster.  Getting a refund of $300 wasn't a windfall.  Sure I didn't want to wait 2 years to get it, but it wasn't going to effect my lifestyle.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Varuna - I love that idea!

  • I'm eating smoked salmon cream cheese with swiss cheese crackers.

This is the stuff I eat normally .... does this mean I'll eat normal things when pregnant? :')

This is DH's big thing.  By now, we have a good idea of what we owe--sometimes we owe a little, sometimes we get a small refund.  But we're sure AF not going to lose the use of thousands of dollars (of our own money!) until tax time.

Nope. LOL before I got pregnant I was the person who would eat baby carrots with ketchup and potato chips with olive cream cheese. Last Tuesday I ate spinach and artichoke dip for dinner.

    It definitely stays weird.
  • This is a terrible confession to make but, with all the tornado devastation that happened in NOLA today, I WISH one of them had taken out that duplex we've been working on.  I can't tell you how much more I'd rather have the insurance money.  Magically leave the rest of the area untouched, of course.  I know, I know.  I shouldn't wish for bad things.

As it is, where the tornados did hit, it's possible another rental I own could have been damaged.  I don't think so, but they are super near where one of them touched down.  I'm especially praying that one is safe.  I like that property and two families are living there.

  • @short+sassy after the day you've had, I don't blame you :( I hope all your other properties are ok.

  • You were supposed to share ONE? Why?
It was actually a 3-pack, but I'm still not going to share if I can help it. I'm not good at sharing chocolate, especially when I'm PMS-ing.

yeah, i don't get that at all. we try to get as close to 0 as possible. i'd rather owe a small amount because investments did better than expected than give the government an interest free loan.
  • I just started witching Narcos on Netflix. I'm 3 episodes in and have a love/hate relationship with a large chunk of the show being in Spanish/subtitled.

On one hand, well over half of the characters are Colombian, so of course they would speak Spanish with each other (for the sake of authenticity). On the other hand, it makes multitasking with the TV on impossible, because I have to read the show to understand what's being said.

  • Barbie, keep watching. It gets good.

The number I've designed for my 2nd drag performance is cracking me up.  IDK if anyone else will get it or care, but I think it's hilarious AF.

I'm doing a RHCP song, and wearing a full body naked man suit with a tube sock where my junk should be.  I can't stop giggling about it.  90s teen angst returns!
    That sounds awesome!
