This might not belong here but I didn't know what other board to post it to so here goes.
Weare having a large wedding..sent out invites a couple weeks ago- inviting a total of 300 people and expecting about 200 to show up. We are inviting people from all over the country (18 different states to be exact). LOTS of people are traveling in for our wedding. Our wedding is in my hometown so it's not a destination wedding although we have all these people coming in.
I made room blocks at 2 hotels with different price points. I have contracts with both that state that they can't release any of our unbooked rooms till April 10. We are getting married on the typical college graduation weekend and my hometown has several colleges here. One of the hotels that we have a room block with is already "sold out" to the general public although we still have rooms available under our room block.
I checked this particular hotels room block website and noticed that someone has booked a room that no one recognizes their name what so ever. I checked with my mom, my FMIL, and even looked him up on FB to make sure we didn't have any mutual friends.
Now its possible that this person could be coming for the wedding since we invited so many people and it could've been someone's parents credit card or something like that who knows. However, if it's just a random person trying to reserve a room on our block then I want the hotel to cancel this reservation because we have so many other people coming in who need the rooms.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening? How do I confirm this guy is not with the wedding without having to follow up with 300 individual guests?
Re: Room Block Question
Ask all your VIP's if they recognize the name. You are right to consider a parent of a friend or co-worker. When we travel, my husband and I will often book all rooms, including those for my two adult children and their families.
Also keep in mind many people may make their own arrangements out of the room block (reward points, favorite hotel chain, Airbnb, stay with friends, etc.) so even at that time if the block is full, or nearly full, but many OTT guests haven't made arrangements it might be that they are making their own plans.
