Beach wedding or money saving NYE wedding?

Hey Ladies!
My FI and I are setting up appointments for different reception halls in our area.  We got engaged on a cruise and we love the beach, so we were going to go with a wedding in July of 2012 with a beach theme.  I preferred having a sumer wedding because I need to follow a school schedule for work.  However, a place that we like offered us a significantly low price that would save us about $50 per person if we booked for NYE of this year.  We would save $5,000+! I am completely fine with this because I love the idea of a black and white wedding, but I didn't want to do it in the summer.  Also, I think it would be so much fun! My FI didn't seem too sold on the idea surprisingly.  He thinks that we shouldn't change the date just to save money, but I think we could take the money we save and put it toward making our honeymoon more extravagant or saving for a house.

Idea? Advice? Thank you!

If I hadn't done a fall wedding I would've gone with the NYE Black and White affair. I think it's a beautiful theme and something your guests will love. And if you can save some money, esp. a good amount of money, that's awesome. If you don't have a specific date in mind, then you have every reason to be flexible and do what will suit you both in the end. Good luck!

I don't know... I went to a NYE wedding and I have to be honest, I wasn't thrilled about it. Beach wedding on the other hand sounds like a fantastic idea. I think in the end, it's how you'd like to remember the evening. Bear in mind, with a NYE wedding, while the venue may be on sale, all the other vendors may not be.
    Hope this helps!

One of my best friends got married this past NYE.  It was a really fun idea and everyone seemed to enjoy it.  However, while the venue was decently priced, all her vendors upcharged because of the day.  I'm talking photographer, DJ, limos, hair/makeup people, etc.  So you might save on your venue but most vendors will charge you more.

It is a nice theme/time...we really had a blast at midnight when everyone had new year's hats and crowns and whistles etc but you also have to remember that to get the full NYE experience you'll have to pay your venue an extra hour to extend after midnight.  Unless the venue you spoke to said they will just start later or something.

Anyway, good luck and don't worry what you do/where you do it. It's your wedding and it'll be fabulous!

Thank you ladies!! I think we are going to stick to the summer wedding regardless because that was our original plan and the feedback about the vendors being more really helped.  I certainly wouldn't want to be taking pictures of some strangers wedding when I could be with my family, so I would up-charge! Although the vendor did offer to throw in the last hour and champagne toast for free, they were also very accommodating on the price for the summer as well.  Regardless, it'll be a blast!

    Thanks again!!
