Terrible Tuesday

So we just found out H's truck needs to have the transmission completely rebuilt. That's a good $2000 we weren't planning for right now. For a 17 year old truck. Fan-freaking-tastic.

On on a lighter note I made some great stuffed peppers for dinner last night.

How's everyone else's Tuesday?

Re: Terrible Tuesday

  • That sucks @charlotte989875

I wasted a lot of time trying to curl my hair with my flat iron for this work event tonight. I can get some curls happening but it wasn't going to happen. I just need to buy a curling wand that works in the country. And a hairdryer. Some hairspray probably wouldn't hurt either, lol.

Saw a posting on my local fb baby page for a babysitter - her name is listed as "Beautiful'ass ____ _____".  Ummm yes, ok, maybe she does have a beautiful ass. If that wasn't enough clicking her name lets me see your fb posts about bringing kids to fights and pulling guns on people. No wonder your rate is only $15 for the DAY. smh.

  • Speaking of hair products, my girlfriend introduced me to Redken's Power Grip.  It's a powder based root booster and it totally works.  If you start to get flat, you just rub your roots and bam!  You're a Georgia Peach.  It usually takes a team of professionals to give me that much volume and make it last.  I ordered it immediately and it's en route.

Last night H was exhausted and I was a worker bee.  I ordered wedding pics to frame, finally, bought the frames, and while I was at TJ Maxx bought a new, more adult storage piece for the bedroom (we had Target cubes and it's time to have a bedroom that doesn't resemble a dorm), and planted our last 3 plants in the veggie garden.

Today, I'm WFH again and then working a seated dinner tonight.  Ooh and I get to pick up an adorable Kate Spade cross body that I found on a mom to mom site!

    LOL @kimmiinthemitten

how big is the purse you're getting? On a whim I ordered a Kate Spade crossbody last year just before baby was born but the color looked different than online and it was final sale/no returns. I need to just use it anyway because what good is it doing sitting in the closet.
  • That sucks @charlotte989875

My mom is coming over today to go to lunch. I need to get moving and start laundry and pick up the house the rest of the way. I also have to study for a test and get ready for work tomorrow.

Last night I wanted to go to bed early and SO wanted to stay up late on his phone. I was like, "see how I feel every night?" I finally turned off the light so I could sleep, and he was all "but I need to seeeee." Dude, this happens to me every night. We go to bed early but I can't sleep for hours, so I wait until you fall asleep, then I carry on with whatever I was reading before on my phone. Do the same thing for once. Geez. I already can't wait to sleep in on Saturday.

It's black and white striped and super cute!  You could always try to sell yours and make some of the money back.

  • I'm just in a crabby mood today.
I've been screwing up at work a lot ... and it's just frustrating. It's my fault but still frustrated as fuck.

Good news, we got electrician in last night and it'll cost $80/outlet {plus tax} but that's good. We're looking at under $300 when originally we were expecting closer to $500

Tonight we're going to dealership we got our car cuz they have a deal and we can get lower interest. We're also gonna try to change the payments to go with M's pay schedule.

    Otherwise ..... SSDD

without even seeing a picture I'm pretty sure I want your purse!
  • I just talked to someone on the phone for 51 min.  I do not miss the days when I was on the phone for 8 hours straight.  So.much.talking.

Anyhoo, it's beautiful weather here.  I am having a crisis between whether I should listen to/catch up on podcasts, finish Unbreakable, and start HoC.  And OITNB starts Friday. It's TOO MUCH. ;) #fwp
  • @missJeanLouise, I have some of the flattest hair in the world.  My hair just laughs at and makes fun of any type of curl implement that uses temporary heat.  The only thing that works is to have my hair in curlers for HOURS.  I'll usually go to bed that way and take them out the next morning.

A faster/easier way to use curlers, is put your hair in a pony tail first.  Then put curlers in.  Hairspray, if possible.  It won't get the top half of your hair curly, but it adds beautiful loose curls to the bottom half.  And even with all that, the curls only stay in my hair for a few hours before they start falling out (sigh).

@charlotte989875, I'm sorry to hear about the major repair needed.  That is always a blow to morale.  Have you all thought about using that money to buy another used truck instead?  $2,000 seems like more or close to what the truck would be worth.  Plus, there's no telling if it will need another repair in the near future.

I'm planning to finally have some work done on my car, hopefully on Friday.  I'm having a major problem with water intrusion and I think it's because the windshield and window seals are bad.  I also have some of those indicator light problems.  Plus I just have a number of other repairs I've been putting off.  Nothing major or an emergency, but needs to get done eventually.

It's never a good time!  But the next two months are especially not a good time to spend a bunch of money on my car.  Oh well.

@kvruns, it's like some people just live in a different reality from the rest of us.  Beautiful A**'s behavior is bad enough.  But that she doesn't have the basic common sense to at least hide her crazy, while she is advertising to be a babysitter, is just all the more alarming.

Nothing much going on with me.  I have a lot of tenant stuff I have to deal with over the next week.  One of my leases just ended and switched to month-to-month in May.  I need to add some addendums to it that will hit for July.  I'm already annoyed with myself I didn't do it a month ago, so it hit for June.

Another lease ends at the end of this month and I need to make some tweaks to that one also.

On top of all of that, I also need to talk to Section 8 (housing assistance) about raising the rent for two of my units.  One of them I think I might be too late on for this year and I'm really mad at myself.  I just didn't realize it was coming up this quick and they already hugely screwed me over on the rent for that unit when the tenant moved in.  They very purposely make it difficult and they suck.  It is a really slim window that I can request an increase.  It has to be at least two months before the lease ends, but can't be too far ahead either.

  • Well when it rains it pours. Literally water just poured from our newly redone bathroom/brand new drain through our newly painted ceiling. Can't catch a break.

We thought about that @short+sassy but the truck only has 100,000 miles on it and anything else we'd get for that price would probably be higher mileage and need work too. And we don't want to buy new or nicer used now and have two car payments. H's contract is up and he hasn't found anything new yet so we're trying to be ultra-conservative with spending right now.

Ugh, I'm so sorry!  Is that at least an easy fix and just some paint?

  • @charlotte989875 That's crappy, and I feel your pain. The transmission on my truck is starting to bind when I go to put it in drive or reverse. And the air conditioner stopped working just as summer started. I'm wilfully ignoring both of those problems until the damn wedding is over!

@mrsconn23 I'm so looking forward to the new season of OITNB!

@banana468 I almost spat out my coffee reading that!  I remember once I was driving somewhere with FI and my kiddos. They were probably 5 and 7 at the time, and they somehow started talking about how babies are born. My son (the oldest) declared that babies come out of the vagina, and then after a brief pause he asked "Mom, what's butter?"  FI could barely breath from laughing, and then looked and me and said " Your kids know that babies come out of vaginas, but they don't know what butter is??"  Parenting fail?  LOL I miss that age.

FI and I are going to look at some potential places to live this evening and tomorrow. We are moving in August, and since we don't plan to live there longer than a year or two, we are going to rent. Especially because selling houses there is a nightmare (I mean who wouldn't want to buy real estate next to a giant feedlot and slaughterhouse?) and with the economy the way it is, I don't feel comfortable buying.  We have 3 places lined up and of course I'm in love with (the photos of) the priciest one. But it seriously has everything, and it's only $300 more a month than we were hoping. I'm certain I can work enough to make up the difference (we can technically afford it on one income but we like having $$ to do spontaneous things like eat out somewhere nice or take a weekend trip). So wish us luck on finding a suitable place with good landlords ( that's the scariest part in my experience)
  • @kwiksilver, right after that conversation she said, "So what's diarrhea?"

I nearly said, "They aren't the same thing at all but the thought of one might give you the other."

ugh. that sucks. (although it's also how we ended up with a completely remodeled kitchen last year.) call your insurance company - or the contractors who did the work if it's still under warranty - they should be covering the repair and subsequent damages.
  • I just got the repair list from my buyers and they can kiss my ass. Saturday morning, I brought the garbage can in and the garage door worked just fine. Got home Saturday night and it wasn't. My realtor texted their realtor who said they weren't concerned because they were going to replace it anyway. Yet, for some reason they put it on their list along with refinishing the hardwood floors. Ummm...how bout no? Those floors were only $1.79/sq ft and it's $1.50-$4 to refinish. I told my realtor I'll put some restore stuff on them, but that's it. I'm not doing $2,000 worth of repairs.

Oh and on the work front....about a year ago, we hired a parts guy which is great because it took a good amount of work off of me and the branch manager. Well, after a few months, he decided that he wanted to be salaried. He was hired as an hourly employee because the last parts guy abused his leave so badly. So BM tells him that he can't make him salary, but he'll guarantee him 40 hours a week. Big mistake, big, HUGE. He probably hasn't worked a full week since then. He takes off a minimum of half a day every week for doctor's appointments. On top of this guaranteed 40 hours, he pays him OT even if he's missed time during the week. It's so frustrating because he does a half ass job when he is here, but talks about how fantastic he is at his job. I hate to tell you, Mr. Part Guy, but if you were fantastic at your job, you'd not have to spend $100 overnighting parts that we should always have on hand because they're used on 3/4 of every job we do. Rant over.

@charlotte989875 ugh that sucks on both accounts. What happened to cause the water?
@missJeanLouise my hair laughs hysterically any time I try to style it. It's flat and fine and refuses to hold curl.
@banana468 that is awesome! When oldest was about 6, I quipped to my then husband about how my balls were so big they had to be strapped to my chest. Oldest pipes up from the back seat and says, "Do you mean baginas?"
    @MissKittyDanger good luck!

Well, today is not the shit show that yesterday was, but I still feel a little like I need a new job. There's a similar position to mine in another unit. (Better pay too) I just need to get up the nerve to apply.

Sorry to everyone dealing with repairs! That really sucks!

Best of luck in your search, @kwiksilver!

@DrillSergeantCat I've never heard of someone asking for floors to be refinished - that isn't really a repair IMO. Then again I think buyers ask for everything under the sun these days, hoping they'll get some of it
  • @charlotte989875, sorry to hear about your terrible day.

I'm doing ok today, but last Friday my mom told me that her cancer (melanoma) has spread to her bones.

Since the, I wake up every day wondering if this is the day I'm going to get the call about my mom. Our relationship has been difficult at times, but I'm just not ready.

  • Oh, @Jen4948, I'm so sorry! Hugs!
  • @kvruns to me, it's cosmetic. I bought a floor kit that is supposed to cover scratches and that's all I'm willing to do.

@Jen4948 sorry to hear about your mom.
  • @DrillSergeantCat, I know it's frustrating and can almost feel like an "attack", but don't be too put out by your buyers.  Many buyers will use an inspection as part of the negotiating process.  Just counter back with whatever you are willing to fix/think is fair.

Though I definitely agree about the floors and/or most other problems that could have been seen in the showing.  If they wanted the floors refinished, they should have taken that into consideration with their initial price offer.  And perhaps they did, but are just hoping you'll agree to it.

  • @Jen4948  oh I'm sorry :(<3 *hugs*

@DrillSergeantCat  Sounds like the buyers are just being picky. I've heard of people wanting the seller to clean the floors - like with hardwood cleaner - before but not redoing them.
  • @Jen4948 I'm sorry about your mom. Hugs for you.

Today has flown by. Tons of meetings - oh and all the interns showed up 45 minutes late. Which meant that my 8:30 with them had to be pushed to 10:30 because I had a 9:30. Ugh. And they're all painfully shy - which I don't remember about any of them during the interview process a couple of months ago. Hopefully their shyness wears off over time.

The thing that gets me there, and if they agree to that concession, is you could do a crappy job of it and make the floors look or function worse and then what. I definitely wouldn't want my seller doing it because I'm cynical
