Shoes!

Hi there Knotties!  I am hoping all you lovelies can help me...  I am having a hard time finding shoes!  I've had arthritis in my feet, in addition to plantar fasciitis, so I have been wearing a single style of shoe (in multiple colors) for the past 2 years. I want to wear something more appropriate for the wedding, but am really struggling to find something pretty that is also comfortable. I am hoping I am not alone in my plight and you have some ideas and positive experiences.
Thank you!

I am an old lady with arthritis.  Currently I am waiting for my knee brace to arrive so I can get around better on my vacation.  I have worn orthopedic shoes for 36 years.

The go-to shoe for me has always been the San Antonio Shoe Company (S.A.S.)
They make many, many styles of comfortable shoes, and some of them are very nice, but not uber-stylish.

For a simple pair of low heels, I have always worn this soft style.  http://www.zappos.com/p/soft-style-angel-ii-white-smooth/product/7219129/color/732  It has been made for over 25 years.  The low heel is stable, and it won't bother your plantar fasciitis.  You could always dress it up with sparkly clips for a special look.  They run a bit small in my experience.  I wore a black pair to my daughter's wedding ceremony, and when my feet began to swell at the reception, I changed into an oh-so-comfortable pair of S.A.S. slip on shoes to dance with my husband and energetic son.  http://www.zappos.com/sas-women-heels/CK_XARC41wE6AuYVWgKnAqoBAQPAAQHiAgYBAhgHFQs.zso
Yes, I know they are expensive, but to those of us with life long foot problems, it is worth every penny!

Ooo!  Here is something that looks glamorous but sensible!  http://www.zappos.com/p/j-renee-bambalina-silver/product/8775198/color/632?zlfid=191&ref=pd_detail_1_sims_p_ab

Not trying to push Dick's Sporting Goods, but I have bad plantar fasciitis and these two products help me a lot.  Depending on your wedding shoe style, I'm not you'd be able to conceal the second one.  But it's very helpful for everyday life.  The insoles fit in dress shoes very nicely though.

My mother has crippling RA, and she wore sparky black merrill's to both me and my sister's weddings.  (She wore black dresses to both.).

Foot pain/issues are a huge drag!  Best of luck!

ETA- if these don't help you, stick with what's comfortable.  I totally get wanting to wear something fun or pretty, and if dress shoes would make you happier I hope you find the perfect pair!  But if you're worried about appropriateness about a certain shoe, don't.  The shoes the bride wears don't impact guest comfort in anyway.  Good luck! :)
  • If your dress is long, rest easy knowing your shoes won't really show. I wore bright, spring green shoes and barely anyone even noticed.

I would just wear what's comfortable. You will be on your feet all day and you have a medical condition that is going to require more comfort than most days. Do you have a podiatrist? I bet they get the formal event shoe question a lot and can recommend ultra-comfy shoes.

  • Hey - that's what I was going to suggest - I'm wearing Birkenstocks under my long dress exactly because they are super comfortable to wear for 12+ hours and no one will see them - so maybe if you have a white pair of those shoes that work that would be fine.
