A 7th CEO has quit Trump's administration. (ETA: In a "You're not breaking up with me because I'm breaking up with YOU!" move, his business counsels have now been 'disbanded'. HA.)

The Presidents Bush released a joint statement saying that they are against hate and bigotry.

Any member of congress who has spoken publicly has said, "WTF?!  NO! HELL NO!!!!" (Ryan and McConnell, for Christ's sake!)

Pence: "I stand with the president."  He could LITERALLY throw Trump under the bus right now and get pats on the back for it.

Me: *hanging my head*  I'm so sorry my state brought that guy to the nation, y'all.

At least we know the company he prefers to keep since David Duke is the only other national figure who feels the same way.

Ironically, the only reason anybody knows who David Duke is, is exactly because he is so outlandish.  A "politician" who was once a member of the KKK!?!?  (rabble, rabble, rabble).  Seriously, though.  If memory serves, I believe his entire political resume is holding one term in the Louisiana State House of Representatives (something like that), back in the '80s.  He's completely irrelevant and anybody else would have been long, long forgotten.

Though he has run for quite a few "loftier" positions.  Of course, whenever he is running for anything, he is all downplaying and humbling about his past in the KKK.  "I know it was terrible, but I'm a changed man now," type of attitude.

I read his recent remarks about Charlottesville and, oh look at that, a tiger doesn't change his stripes.  Especially now that white supremacy is unfortunately back "en vogue".

I think this provided the levity for a moment that I needed with this week being what it is.  We need a more impactful term than 'shitshow' because it's gone far beyond that...

I appreciate a jaunty tune, while society falls down around us, lol.

I still find it mind boggling that anybody gives a s**t about Confederate statues.  Y'all lost over 150 years ago.  GTF over it already.

Yet I saw it here in NOLA.  Thank God we didn't have something like what happened in Charlottesville because, quite frankly, I was expecting it.  Emotions and tensions were running high.  We took down three Confederate monuments and an obelisk that memorialized a white supremacist uprising in the late 1800's.  That was just a few months ago.  There were crowds and protests around the three Confederate ones.  Protestors both for and against.  White supremacists came from out of state to protest.  People camped out at them.

It was nuts.  I drive past the most popular one to and from work.  There were a few nights I had to take an alternative route home because there were just too many people spilling over into the street.

There were a few small physical fights and one night had looting of a few stores.  But, even at the time, I thought we were "lucky" that's all it was.  The workers who took the monuments down wore bullet proof vests and masks over their faces.  There were snipers positioned to guard them.  All over statues for a bunch of guys who are long dead.  Such craziness that was even necessary.

  • Quick update, Bannon is out of white house!
I knew he was after the bananas interview he gave earlier this week.  But since we are now in the upside down, it makes me wonder if Trump was in on him giving that interview and what he said or if Bannon really had an epiphany about the Trumpster Fire administration.

  • It's been just over 200 days.....and 1/3 of the Secret Service Detail is not guaranteed pay for work already performed.

As a point of reference, the last time this happened was in Oct 2016 when SS was responsible for one family in the WH and two traveling campaigns.

On the one hand, I hope Congress acts quickly to change their budget/salary allotments and on the other, I hope Republicans start pressuring Trump to travel less and ease the burden on these hard working men and women.

Apparently Trump didn't realize that being POTUS is a full-time job and he would have to cut back on his vacations.

Plus, this is the first time I can remember that the First Family does not live in the WH.  I've heard that, because Melania and her son primarily live in their home in NYC, that this causes an extra burden to the Secret Service also.

Melania and Barron did finally move into the WH in June. But it did cost an exorbitant amount of money for SS while they were still living in NY waiting for Barron to finish the school year.

Yes; it's my understanding POTUS can have a primary residence (Ehite House), and secondary residence (usually their actual house), but Trump designated Maralago as his secondary; so basically he's making the secret service cover those two, plus NY, which has even more security concerns as a third residence. Normally the first family either lives in the WH or secondary residence. Yet another case where the rules just don't seem to apply to him.

Thanks @cupcait927 and @charlotte989875 for the further clarification.

Yes, I certainly understand that President's keep their personal homes and will periodically visit.  But usually it is the whole family at once.  "Interesting" he feels the need to have multiple residencies covered (eye roll).

A bit off topic.  But Nixon's personal home during his Presidency was actually in the town I grew up in (San Clemente, CA).  It was called the West Coast White House, at the time.  I was born during the height of the Watergate scandal and was but a wee bairn, when he lived there.  I think he sold it to a good friend just a couple years after resigning.

  • I think the NYC issue really put a major hit into the budget.   It was a traffic nightmare AND then the first lady needed her own security detail.

Where did the Secret Service stay in rented housing?   Trump Tower.

Trump even makes SS rent golf carts from him when they are at his golf courses.

That's actually a matter of law. You can't give elected officials gifts so by law Trump has to profit off of any and all services his security has to use at his properties.
