Friday Friday

Re: Friday Friday

  • @CharmedPam  Never used an app, we typically just donate to Canadian Diabetes Association. They have a bin near my mum's, so we just drop stuff there - or put it on the curb so people can pick up.

That's a good idea, but the elliptical wont fit anyone's car.  On our street, we have a lot of people driving around looking for stuff on the curb. Especially metal.  You'd think the people driving around for scrap metal are collecting gold.
Do you have a local thing to sell things? Like Craigslist?
  • @CharmedPam Oh man, loads of money.  We're spending about $2K on new couches and bed/mattress, new pillows, comforters (thank goodness for IKEA, seriously), covers.  At this point, I'm waiting to see if my management company charges me for the exterminator or not.  There wasn't anything specific in my lease re: bedbugs or heat treatment, just spraying at the beginning of a lease.  I'll have to suck it up and pay it no matter what, but I didn't really have an option.  They didn't say anything when they made the appointment and I figure it's really in their best interests, since it's considered a high end building.
  • @charlotte989875 I teach Geometry, so I have mostly 10th graders.  I have a handful of freshmen who placed out, though.

I loved Geometry! Have a great weekend before the first day back.
  • @CharmedPam, our area has several FB garage sale type pages. Sometimes people list stuff for free. I have sold several large (furniture) items and some small ones through these pages.

I worked out super early this morning so I could be home for a service person to call and come fix our ice maker (yes in the new refrigerator!). He called 15 mins after the window of time I was told he would call. Also, he didn't have the part we need so he said it didn't make any sense for him to come out ( I agreed). In addition, the company keeps calling my home number instead of my cell phone as I have requested 3 times! It shouldn't be that hard people.

Going to bake a lemon/blueberry cake tonight to take to DD and SIL tomorrow when we go to Chicago. Looking forward to seeing An American in Paris.
  • Its finally Friday and its dragging!

DD was a crank last night, of course, the night that H is out, so we can't even switch back and forth with her!  So I decided she was going to bed 30 minutes earlier than usual.  Of course, by the time I start to feed  her the final bottle, H comes home!  My reward for putting her to bed early was be awoken at 5 AM :D

Not sure what is up for tonight.  Tomorrow we are heading to North Jersey to visit a friend and her family, so that will be nice!  We have something on Sunday, but I can't remember what it is! LOL!

I do need to get out to the store because this is the last weekend for my church's back to school supply drive.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

I'm thinking about buying one of those "passes" for a lot of the attractions.  But they're spendy.  We bought one for our NYC trip and, although I wasn't sorry we did, we really only saved a little money.  And just barely.  If we'd skipped the most expensive attraction we did, and we almost did skip it, we would have lost money on the deal.  Though another perk of those things is line skipping at some places and it's also nice to just whip out the cards instead of fumbling for cash or a credit card...yet again, lol.

You might also see what you have for local museum passes.
As in, I have a membership where I work, that includes reciprocal/passport memberships to ASTC museums and Assoc. of Children's Museum's.

That means that in NY, I got into the Intrepid museum free, and elsewhere, I got into another children's museum for half price.

If I would have purchased my membership, it would have cost me $75 (actually, I have the next level up for $125, but, still) for the family for the year...it would essentially have paid for itself with those 2 other museum visits + 1 visit to my museum.

Since we're a small/cheap museum, we have local families who, right before their annual trip to NY or Chicago or wherever, come in and make sure they have an up to date membership because, for example, Chicago, the museum of Sci and Industry, the Field museum, and Abram's are all ASTC museums.
So....if they buy their $75 membership with us, even if they never use it locally, it TOTALLY pays for itself.
(and, you know, they support our museum and make us happy and get their birthday party w/ us cheaper :P)
  • Nice @kimmiinthemitten!!  I like the yellow you added to it.

Thanks!  The "face" was really important to me as that was why it was my grandpas favorite flower.

  • Very nice!  Great detail. You're giving me tattoo fever (I may get one next year!)  Also - I GOT TO SEE THE PIC.  First time in months someone posted a picture and I can view it.

Thanks for the tip!  I would never have thought of that.  I strongly suspect it will be a "no go", as I've never seen that be a perk advertised for memberships at various attractions.  But it doesn't hurt to check out.  I think my only possible bets will be the New Orleans Museum of Art and/or the WWII museum.

Just noticed a key word.  "ASTC" museum ;).

Edited to add.  Found the ASTC website and answered my own question.  The Louisiana Children's Museum is the only local place that is part of their program.  Lame.  Wish it was one of the (above) museums I mentioned, lol.  $89 for two adults, but it looks like there are three places in Chicago we would want to go and it would give us free admission.  Including the Field Museum.  Possible cha-ching.  I'm going to double check all that today
