Wedding Woes

Happy Eclipse Day

The weekend was a huge success. There is so much leftover cake (EVERYONE brought cake), and I haven't gotten so many birthday cards since I had actual birthday parties as a small child.  It was amazing to have so much family in one place.  I forgot how awesome DH's family can be.  Cousin and I swapped birthday gifts when no one was looking, and the dogs didn't kill each other, although there were some hairy moments.  I am welcoming my thirties with a truly spectacular hangover.

Even DH got a gift: we finally bought him a truck.

DH got me a shirt that says, "Sometimes I wet my plants," and I'm wearing it today.  M/F/BIL, H and I are on our way to the zoo. The rest of the family is probably going to just stay local for the eclipse.  It's probably better this way; we develop our own special kind of wild when we're all together.

Re: Happy Eclipse Day

  • Sounds like the weekend was a success @atomicblonde. I giggled out loud about your shirt.

My weekend was, unfortunately not so great. H was out of town and I was OOT all week for work so I didn't have big plans. H's SIL (his older brothers wife) who I'm pretty close with invited me and MIL over since the men were at camp. Friday night she tells me to bring the dog bc we don't have a yard at the apartment complex now and he gets along really well with their dog (note she's not really a dog person). So I check with her Saturday before going over and she asks if he can stay outside the whole time by himself cc she doesn't want him indoors. He's been to their house tons of times; and in the past he peed, but nothing was damaged, and he's been over indoors since then. So this was new, I was annoyed, and bailed on the whole thing. Maybe I'm being petty, but it's like why invite the dog over if you're then going to say he has to stay outside by himself the whole time. I'm annoyed, H is going to handle it with his brother and I'm just going to stay out of it.
  • Our air is out.  :/  It took a shit on Saturday.  We had service out for diagnostic purposes yesterday, but they need to research the part.  It *might* still be under warranty, but we'd still be on the hook for the labor costs.  (fingers crossed, but I'm banking on it being not covered because that's our luck) So yeah...it's hot and sticky up in here.  Trying not to hate my family for being at an air conditioned school/work.  I have two fans blasting on me.  At least my office doesn't get sun until the afternoon and hopefully we will be fixed up by then.

Needless to say, everyone is crabby and tired.  Broken, sweaty sleep is for the birds.

Our weekend was OK besides the air conditioning BS.

    Weekend was a bust.

Saturday we drove 1.5 hrs for soccer. We left at 7 am to play a team from our city. Then we bummed around until a 3:15 game with a team that didn't show up. We scrimmaged our own team. We did go out for a great dinner.

Sunday was was one of those days were everything takes longer than it should. 1 hr meeting takes 2 because things are disorganized. Picking up papers takes an hour because the woman is chatty etc.

unpopular opinion- I don't give a shit about the eclipse
  • @atomicblonde sounds like a blast :) I love punny shirts lol

@charlotte989875  yeh I would have bailed too, kinda petty of your SIL to do that

@mrsconn23  booo air being out :( When is it to get fixed?

    Eventful weekend.
Friday I was never so glad to be home. My boobs were in soooo much friggen pain. Like as if they were swollen or something.
Not thinking too much into it.
    Anyways, after work I changed my bra and that definitely helped {normal bra vs bralette that is sports bra style with better padding around it}
M had to stop by his buddy's place before we did a bit of errands, and I've never been so glad his buddy's dog didn't jump on me. I would have cried lol

Saturday M went shooting and I did nothing. We went back to his buddy's place later on and his dog was so docile with me. He was basically my shadow all night.
Of course, Saturday my allergies started kicking in so I barely slept that night.

Sunday I helped M get plywood so he could get the tops of the work bench and shelf done, then we went to his grandparents place. M's cousin had a baby in November, and we got to finally meet him.
I was exhausted for lack of sleep and allergies, so we didn't stay long.
Afterwards we swung by my mum's place to get clippers for the yard and chit chat a bit.
She looks at me and is like "you look tired"
"Thanks I am. Friggen allergies kept me up half the night."

I'm still tired today, but not like half asleep like yesterday.
  • Weekend was busy and fun.  Friday's wedding was a blast.  Saturday I worked a 12 hour shift (7 miles/28 flights of stairs) and I was exhausted, but then had to deal with dad (below).  Yesterday, I went with H and his B to @charlotte989875's old stomping grounds for a Hungarian festival.  It's held in the neighborhood H's grandparents grew up in, so we got to see the houses they lived in, the church they were married at etc.  We also met a couple of their extended cousins, ate some delicious Chicken Paprikas, and bought some pastries to take home.

@6fsn I kind of don't either, but feel like I should check it out since it's a one in a lifetime thing.  But now I'm going with my dad to a doctors appointment at 2 so I'll likely miss it anyway.  I'm sure everyone will post a pic on FB anyways.

Dad has been complaining for over a year that he gets "vertigo."  Each time he's in the hospital and mentions it, it's blown off because they don't see anything wrong. When I ask him to explain it (ASL to English isn't always an easy translation) he says he gets double vision and it's like his eyes cross.  It happened for a long time when he was driving home from another wedding with my mom Saturday, so he pulled over and fell asleep.  And then again twice yesterday, so I'm going with to the Dr to make sure it's not blown off again.

  • @mrsconn23  booo air being out :( When is it to get fixed?

I'm waiting for a call.  He was going to look up the part and see if we can get it under warranty.  The unit is less than 4 years old.  I'm super anxious to get this taken care of.  It's so damn muggy and that's more annoying than the heat.
  • @atomicblonde Glad you had a great weekend.  I love that shirt phrase

@mrsconn23 Fingers crossed the AC is fixed quick

I can't move.  Weekend ball tournament has reminded me that I am now officially too old to play a game here and there throughout the season and then go full tilt in a tournament.  Add in being sore from workouts last week and I could barely drive home last night.  Apparently a tweaked groin makes it difficult to lift your foot to the clutch while driving.

However, we won the D division, retaking out trophy.  5 wins in the past 7 years  means Dynasty, if you ask me.

Today, I might take the solar eclipse glasses over to see my niece and nephew, as this is the first time they're old enough to understand something like this.  I think we're getting about 73%, so cool, but nothing blowing my mind

  • @mrsconn23, sorry about your air.  that sucks!  When I first read it i thought you wrote "I took a shit on Saturday" and I was like....okay we're going to start off there, are we?
I'm not sure which made me laugh harder....this or the cricket story!

  • It's under warranty, so we just have to pay for labor.  But the part has to be ordered, so no air for me today.  :/ I just need this humidity to break so I can sleep.

Damn. Hopefully it's asap, that's not comfortable and young a/c!
  • @kimmiinthemitten  that's ridiculous how they're blowing it off! This could be a bigger issue :\ Hopefully you being there will ensure it gets dealt with!

Didn't we already establish @mrsconn23  has problems with the Thursday letters? :P

  • @charlotte989875, I don't get it.  I don't think it's fair to have the dog stay out all day either.  What about rain or sun?

My thoughts exactly. Like, no of course he can't stay outside all day/night by himself. He loves being outside, but it's 85 degrees, so no. Shes very nice, but also super materialistic, and thinks things are very, very important. H thinks she's ridiculous too (especially since the dog has been there many time since this incident with no problems) and that his brother probably has no idea she did this.

I'm not mad it's been blown off, each time it's not the reason he's in the hospital so it's not their main concern.  But it's clearly an issue, and hopefully not one that will end his ability to drive.

@charlotte989875 I'd be pissed and would have cancelled too.

@mrsconn23 Yay warranty, boo wait times.

Idk. I'd be irked that it's not being paid attention to, especially since it's been more than once :\
Could it be related to other reasons he's there?

Likely not, he's usually there for lung issues.  I'm not even sure at this point if it's a regular doctor issue or eye doctor issue.  My sis and I have both been googling it for the past couple of days and don't come up with much, but for it to happen fairly regularly for a year is a problem.

  • We actually had a pretty good weekend.  Sorry to you WW ladies who did not!

Saturday and Sunday we had no alarm except for DD! Saturday we hit up the Amish market in the morning for bacon, egg & cheese pretzel logs.  They are just SOOOOOOO good!  We also bought donuts for Sunday, fresh bacon, freshly picked corn on the cob, and hamburger buns.  Did church and had our hamburgers & corn off the grill.

Sunday H & I tackled the lawn.  It was so wet the mower kept stalling from hunks of wet grass.  I was able to pull out a part that prevented the stalling to a point.  So that made it go a little easier.  But it was still pretty tough and took us over an hour.  We took turns.

H hurt his back on Thursday morning.  Friday it was at its worse, so I got the TENS machine out and gave him a 30 minute treatment before bed.  Then on Saturday he wore it and used it off and on all day.  It was greatly improving his pain management and keeping the muscle loose.  So we both figure it would work well while he helped me with the lawn.  He started weed whacking and all was going well.  Then all of a sudden it just starts going crazy shocking him!  He's trying to get it turned off while he keeps getting shocks.  I grab the unit and pull out the plugs.  It finally stops.  We think after he started sweating the electrical pulses started to spread instead of targeting the area where the pads stick to him.  Whoopsie!  Thankfully we didn't have the unit at higher pulses.  And we are laughing about it already.

Then we had dinner with MIL and her BF at Olive Garden.  They took both of her coupons and all was well!  I used their kiosk thing to put the tip on her card, so she left the proper amount as well.

MrsConn - Sorry you will have to wait another day for the AC!

Atomic - I love that shirt and glad you had a good time with family!

6 - I'd have been pissed about that soccer game!  No one at the tournament could tell you that the other team you would have played didn't show up?

Charlotte - Your SIL sounds like a PITA.

Kimmi - I hope you can advocate for your dad!

  • MrsConn - Wonderful update!

Charmed - I had to stifle the laughs for your cricket story!  I also HATE crickets!

A former coworker's wife started having vertigo issues and I'm racking my brain trying to remember the deal, but it is not coming to me.  So all of the following may not be entirely accurate.

Her and her H went to an emergency room one day when it was really bad.  The ER doctor made a diagnosis (argh, can't remember what it was), but referred her to an Ear, Nose, Throat specialist to confirm.  It was some kind of imbalance in her inner ear that is more likely to happen to people as they age, as opposed to younger people.  She is in her early 60s.  I think it had something to do with the tiny, little hairs in our ears get damaged/more sparse as we age and that can cause vertigo.  The doctor was definitely able to fix the problem.  I think it was with a minor, outpatient surgery.

@short+sassy Thanks!  As of right now, it's been diagnosed as Vertigo but I'm questioning that diagnosis all together.  From what he described on Saturday he doesn't get dizzy or feel like he's moving.  His eyes cross and he experiences double vision.  I'm hoping Dad+Doctor+Interpreter+Me means we can get more clarity on what it is he experiences and the best way to find the cause.

ETA if it's truly just double vision on it's own, it could be eyes, muscles, nerves or the brain.  So many places to look!

  • Happy Eclipse Day.

I'm kind-of annoyed.  I was suppose to be on a member hike.  Got up, went to work, got everything ready.   7:30 came and went.  No one showed up.   15 minutes later we called the members.   Both groups cancelled.   GRRR.  I could have stayed in bed.    At least they are paying us for 4 hours because we showed up.   And honestly I'm happy I now have the day off.  I was scheduled for 8 days straight.

I will be watching the eclipse.  Not really "into it", but we will see about 92% coverage.   Seems silly not to watch.  I do not have glasses, but I did make a pin-hole camera.  I tested it out yesterday and it actually worked.

My mom is still in the hospital.  Sounds like she will be in there until at least Wednesday.    Her RA is causing issues with her recovery.   Her doctors met as a group and decided to wait for 3-4 weeks for the surgery.  In the mean time they are lowering her RA meds with the hope she will recover from the surgery better.

On Friday I hiked 4 14K+ summits.   It was so much fun.  Except the decent.  That part sucked, but summiting was fairly easy.     So far I've hiked seven 14K+ summits this summer.    I'm feeling awesome.    I'm pretty sure I will be doing another one this Sunday.      The rest of the weekend was just work.

  • Weekend was long and busy.  K went out of town for a burlesque bootcamp that she absolutely loved.  The plans for a totally put together apartment went flying out the window when it took me all day to put together the bed on Saturday.  I at least got the majority of what i wanted to finish, completed.  K didn't get in until 12:30 this morning anyway.  I missed her.

Nothing too much else to report.  I basically hibernated the entire weekend and refused any and all invites out.
  • Had a pretty good weekend except the ice maker still isn't fixed! The guy came and replaced parts and said it was all fixed. Well after 24 hours no ice!!! At least before it was producing a little ice but now nada. I know first world problems and all but this unit is only about 5 months old.

Painting is all done and everything is put back in place. Now time to pack for vacation.

Saturday I went to a bridal shower. It was a couple's shower with a lot of people so I guess that is why they didn't open the presents. I was kind of bummed. I like seeing what people get. Yesterday was book club so that is always a good time.

  • Our house is in the path of totality, by about a mile and a half. It's a day where I'd be going into work later anyway, so we'll just stay home until after the totality then drop DD at daycare.

Unfortunately, it's just annoying because I now have to worry about DD (not listening is her thing right now, she's almost 2) if I'm going to take her outside or anywhere at any point, because I can't trust her to keep the glasses on, and if we're in the car or something I also can't enforce it.
  • I meant to mention, I'm bummed I didn't get the glasses.  I tried finding something on Amazon about 10 days ago, but everything was sold out until after the event.  Or was insane money.  Like ten of those little paper glasses for $200.  Puh-leez.  I even looked for Shade 14 welding glass, which was another option.  But apparently that is an odd shade that is hard to find, even under normal circumstances.  Oh well.

This far down south, it is only a partial.  But still, the local news said it will drop our temperature by about 4 degrees for a few hours.  Right on!  I'm calling that a move from the 7th Circle of Hell to the 6th, lol.

    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • supposedly we're getting a better eclipse in 2024.  I'll wait.  And I'll be better prepared then too.  buying those glasses in 2023!
People were trying to sell glasses they got for free from the library for $40 a pair.   Yeah, no.    I made my pinhole camera with stuff I had at home.
