Wedding Woes

Thursday!

SO late today. I'm in the office. Very busy 'making the rounds' with peeps.

DH and I got most of our Christmas shopping done yesterday.  w00t!  :D

Prudie coming in a few.

Re: Thursday!

  • Congrats on finishing your Christmas shopping, @mrsconn23! I have a half day tomorrow and will finish up then.

    Stopping by quickly as I have an afternoon filled with meetings, including a long one at 2:30 I am NOT looking forward to. Ugh. At least I can book it afterwards.
  • @mrsconn23 Congrats on finishing :) We're done except for 2 things and waiting on Amazon purchases to get in *side eye*

    @sparklepants41 booo meetings :(

    Still sick. My head mostly hurts :(

    I've discovered that the KFC chicken bowl is comfort food. When I'm sick or in a bad mood, I seem to want it.
    Which also means I should probably just try making it myself. It's easy. Mashed potatoes, corn, popcorn chicken, gravy and some cheese. I actually just printed a recipe for chicken gravy without drippings.

    I'm barely hungry cuz I'm sick, but I'm trying to snack on things - since I need to feed baby. It's rough *sigh* also it's dried out the skin on my nose and cheeks, between wind and blowing my nose. Guess I'll be pulling out the coconut oil tonight! {meanwhile my chin is still breaking out .... wtf lol}

    I'm making lists of things I'll be putting on our white board. Right now is chores and freezer stuff {like what we have in there} so I know what to do when I make a grocery list.

    .... is the day over yet? *lies down*
  • About to give my big presentation. On 3 hours sleep. Wish me luck.

    Prudie is my reward for getting through this.
  • Now I'm hungry, @MissKittyDanger !

    I'm SO ready for the semester to be over.  These students are driving me insane.  I just gave instructions and told my rowdiest class to sit still, eyes on me and stop shuffling papers.  I gave instructions for the next few days (including the midterm).  I said I wanted undivided attention because I wasn't going to answer these questions again.  Within 20 seconds of finishing, I got a question over something I JUST SAID.

    DH's birthday is Saturday so I'm done with birthday & Christmas shopping.  I just have to decide what to give him when.  One of his gifts was thankfully free .... he's a big Rockets fan and one of my college classmates works in the Rockets front office, so we have free tickets to tomorrow night's game!

    On a lighter note, one of my coworkers sent me this link and I figured a few of you may enjoy.

  • @holyguacamole79 my bad! :') might I suggest KFC chicken bowl? LOL!
  • @MissKittyDanger, KFC bowls are AWESOME!  It's like multiple comfort foods all in one package.  They closed all the KFC's in NOLA :(.  Bastards!!!  I can still find them in the suburbs, but that's a 20-30 minute one-way drive.

    @charlotte989875, good luck with the presentation!

    @holyguacamole79, Squee!!!  So many puppies!

    Where is everybody, lol?  I can't remember the last time I've seen a daily recap post so sparsely populated.  Maybe there are sign-in problems again?

    I've been eating good today.  Not good...diet-wise.  Good...yummy-wise, lol.  I had a leftover McD sausage McGriddles for breakfast.  Three delish and authentic tacos from a Mexican food truck for lunch.  Unfortunately, dinner will probably be sad.  The cupboards are pretty bare and a grocery trip is planned for tomorrow.

    I got some good/bad news at work.  Probably more bad than good, lol.  The Doc Control dept. is slammed and they want me to help them again.  Being able to wear many hats has kept me in my job through the various layoffs.  So I'm always eager to help where I can.  But I do NOT like working with the DC manager.

    She has a bit of an anger problem and gets irritated really easily.  It's one of those conundrums where she doesn't want to take the time to properly train how to do something, but then gets annoyed if I make a mistake.  I'm just going to do my best to keep my head down!

  • @short+sassy  if you can find popcorn chicken, they're pretty easy to make :) I'm gonna try it out and hopefully be successful, therefore saving money :')

    I have long despised the FCC with every fiber of my being.  Ever since they cowed to cable companies and repealed the restrictions that allowed Americans to watch tv with just an antenna, if they wanted.  And, in my case, it allowed basic tv/cable to be blocked from coming through on my Internet line.  My cable bill is now 3x what it was before, except with MUCH worse DVR service.

    And I love how, pretty much everyone...across party lines...thinks net neutrality is great.  Is good for everyone.  Poor, rich, business, individuals.  But it's like the Republicans just can't help themselves to always vote against everyone's best interest.

  • I'm here.  Just in loooong boring meetings that are flying over my head. Plus Dh had to stop by for lunch to drop off some feminine products because of a surprise visit.

    SSDD for me.  Last night I ordered a grubhub pick up (was so lazy) and got confused with the restaurants.  I thought it was around the corner.  It was not.  It was a good 20 minutes from me. That was fun.  I came home and crashed before 9:00 p.m. and I've been getting enough sleep too! wth?

    I like the idea of the KFC bowl - but last time I had it, it was to salty for me.  kfc in general is a salt lick, so I shouldn't be surprised.
    @short+sassy, job security man! sorry you have to work with the manager/department not to your liking.

    Sooooo this net neutrality....what is this all about?  As you may know, I don't follow politics all too much, and usually say mum on the topic.

    Bolded. 100% yes!

    So many people I know gave up cable for Netflix, etc and now they're fucking those people over! {tbh we were debating it or at least lowering our cable}

    As M said when I texted him about the outcome.
    "Congrats Mr Trump, you have officially become the worst president in US history - and that's including the ones who were slave owners!"

    Someone else can probably explain it better than I can.  But, previously there were net neutrality laws that made it illegal for ISP carriers to purposefully block or slow down websites.

    This was to try and keep all info on the Internet readily available.  If ISP carriers can block/slow websites, they can control what their users see and have access to.  An ISP provider gets chummy with a particular political party?  Oh look, suddenly websites that are pro "other party" get blocked or are super slow to open.  An ISP provider has stakes in particular companies/websites?  Oh look again, competitor websites for those interests get blocked or slowed down.

    I've yet to see an argument against "net neutrality", other than "it's just not really needed".  But perhaps there are better ones somewhere that I have not come across.

    And let me also add on the subject.  Another huge problem is many areas only have 1 or 2 ISP provider choices!!!!  S**t, I live smack in the middle of a medium-sized U.S. city.  I have one ISP choice.  Cox Cable.  Not even DSL is available where I live.

    Cox Cable is the biggest, most money grubbing a**hole company ever.  They're already a monopoly (in my area) and now they could potentially control ever single thing I can see on the Internet also?  Oh!  Hell no!

    yup.  xfiniity is a monopoly on internet too (I think I can jump cable companies but only xfinity can provide internet in my area).

    I can't even jump cable companies.  There are no others.  For tv, the only other choice would be satellite.

    We have a few options, but Bell Canada owns the lines so even though we're with another company they own everything .... so it sucks especially cuz I hate Bell

    Partly because when my parents moved - same area, but across the main street - the place had Bell satellite already installed.
    Cool, my mum opted to call and find out pricing to change companies. They wanted her to change the phone number - same one we'd had for majority of my life! - and only reason is because we went across the street.
    Mum said 'eff them' and kept the company she has now.
  • We have ONE option for cable internet and could get in on Frontier if I wanted bad internet service.

    Deregulation sounds like a great idea in theory.   The problem is that it's not going to lead to more ISPs and the ones that do exist will get to throttle my download speeds for things like Netflix in exchange for  me paying higher rates.

    I live in CT and years ago they deregulated the electricity.  It sounded like a great idea but now our electrical rates are nearly double the national average and I leave nearly 5 miles from a nuclear power plant.

    It's a dumb move and I think people didn't realize what they were voting for and won't until it's too late.

    Our electrical company is Entergy.  This is the little game they play.  There are "two" Entergy companies.  Entergy Louisiana and Entergy New Orleans.

    In NOLA, our rates are about twice as high as the rest of the state.  Why?  Because Entergy New Orleans doesn't produce any of their own electricity.  They "buy" their electricity from Entergy Louisiana.  (Insert many screaming 4-letter words, most of which start with "F").

    And the government regulators who oversee utility monopolies to make sure consumers don't get screwed over?  Well.  This is a great time of year for them.  They get to watch the Saints home games from the luxurious Entergy boxes.

    Nobody even bothers pretending that there aren't blatant bribes going on.

    Comed deregulated residential accounts around 3 or 4 years for us too.  So far, I've been OK on rates but I have to keep on calling my supplier and marking on my calendar when to call in order to be in their contract.  They offer Southwest Airline points for me, so I stay with them. lol.
    Right now, just buying through comed is the best way to go because the RT prices are so cheap.

  • Thursday funny: my birthday is tomorrow and my mom and brother planned a very thoughtful birthday dinner for me on Saturday since DH isn’t here. They forgot to invite me. I can’t stop laughing.

    Happy early birthday. I had forgotten you and DD share the same birthday. We celebrated with her last weekend - but we remembered to invite her LOL!

    Thank you! I forgot that she and I shared a birthday too until you said that. So happy birthday to your DD! Glad you remembered to invite her  :D

  • work related annoyance - i asked a coworker to run some reports for me. He used to (sort-of) report to me like 5 years ago so we have a good relationship. (i was his functional boss and assigned his work - administratively he reported to someone else). He was willing to do what I asked, and I said I would let his team lead know that I had made the request because I figured she'd give him attitude for giving me the information.

    i was right. she got a big attitude with him, and then with me for not coming to her with the request. i would have talked to her when i asked him - if she hadn't left at like 3:00. When I explained what I needed, she got all protective of the information because she doesn't want anyone to point out that she's basically useless and a liability - which this data could do.
    I was super professional and didn't give her a "ho sit down" card, even though I really wanted to. if you're a contractor, it's not in your best interest to get on the bad side of a senior, direct employee - especially one who signs off on your time card, and has influence on hiring for your team.
  • It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere we go...The shops are already starting to put up their Christams display . BUT I will leave it until Christmas eve to do my shopping, so busy on my work, no mood for shopping.

    Did you eventually get an invite? ;)
