Wedding Woes

It's only Wednesday..

My anxiety of the day is that I'm wearing new foundation. I always get nervous that it will suck and I'll look like hell a couple hours in.

Everyone survive their weather?

Re: It's only Wednesday..

  • my face gets super dry throughout the day.  I always leave the house looking decent and then I go to the bathroom in the middle of the day and I"m like "whoa whoa whoa....was it always this dry?"

I came into the office and searched my purse for my phone and had a mini panic attack because it wasnt there and i knew I had it on my drive to work (used it at stop lights only).  I went back to my car to find that it fell out of my purse in the car and not during the walk to the office.  phew.  guys, I never felt so vulnerable and naked in my WHOLE LIFE.  I wouldnt wish a lost phone on my worst enemy now.

anyway I freaking hate Illinois right now.  I'm so bored with it.  We wont up and move or anything, but I always get the urge to move at this time of the year.  @short+sassy, I'm thinking of bringing the hubs to New Orleans early next year.  He's gotta go.  I even searched cruises out of NOLA but nothing caught my eye, so we'll just do a long weekend sometimes in Jan - March.  We do have a cruise early February though.

  • The wind is crazy out here, too @cupcait927. We have downed power lines, power outages, and trees and branches everywhere. My office is in a house built in the 1860s and my windows are rattling pretty hard.

Last day of work and finishing up a progress report, running a few errands, teaching one class (well actually they're watching a movie), packing and last minute things before I leave tomorrow. I'm excited for two days off from the one job. Thanks for all the Chicago tips. I'm going to start planning out my meals tonight!
  • @charlotte989875 Damage hasn't gotten quite that bad here yet, but I'm expecting by the end of the day that there will be many areas without power and downed trees and branches. H and I haven't even started cleaning up our yard from the numerous winter storms so I'm hoping this storm doesn't cause our trees to drop too much more because it's already a huge project. Have fun in Chicago!

That's so funny you say that.

H and I have been talking/thinking/fantasizing about moving to Montana for 5-ish years now.

On Monday night I found a plot of land and a modular home company. We could damn near pay cash for both and eventually build a home. Now it's all we can think about.

  • @ShesSoCold did you bring any powder or have blot sheets {or tissue paper} on hand? That way if you feel uncomfortable, you can dab your face. What foundation did you get btw?

@CharmedPam Do you have skin allergies? If not, take a look at Mac's Fix+ I have that issue in the winter, and a small spray helps add moisture to the skin without being too dramatic ;)

@cupcait927 You can do it! :) I really need to get into meal planning better ....

    @charlotte989875 enjoy your trip :)

Not much last night. There was a couple things I wanted to do, but M's back hurt too much. I set him up with what I do {ie; pillow, heating pad and tylenol} and he couldn't believe how much you can't do when it's lower back pain. I just kept saying "I know :| " lol
He's in better movement today, which is good lol

Now that the basement is starting to take shape, we can work on the garage. A good chunk of stuff in there is going to the curb soon, so that's actually kind of exciting lmao

    Woke up to wet snow on the ground. It's a little greasy to walk, but not bad as it's above freezing. Still crappy weather, but on principle I did not wear winter boots {and the fact that runners are just easier to put on, oddly enough}

Tonight is chiro appt, and hopefully M's back is good enough to bring closet doors to the basement. Or even lego ...
  • @shessocold, dooooooo it.  Illinois isn't doing you any favors. LOL.  I  want to move but both H and I love our jobs and pretty much the only thing holding us here is we finally made something work for both of us.  The few friends I do see here and there, I'd probably see the same amount of time when I fly back.

It's my dream to win the lottery (I mean, I'm the only American with that dream, I do realize) and spend summers/fall in Salem MA and winters/spring in...I dunno, the west coast somewhere? not to picky.

@misskittydanger, no allergies but I do have rosacea.  I am using murad spray toner before I put on make up and it's helped a lot since I started to use it.  Plus, with spring coming (right?) I think the dryness will go away until next November at least.

  • I'm trying Philosophy's Hope in a Jar foundation. I like Philosophy but I have like, the world's oiliest skin so shine and foundation sliding around is an issue. Plus I still have acne issues so I have to be careful of my skin getting mad and breaking out. I also ordered Bare Minerals' liquid foundation and I'll try that tomorrow. I like the Bare Minerals powder stuff but sometimes I get dry spots from my acne treatments and the powder makes it worse.

We have toilet seat covers at work. They work as well, if not better than oil blotting sheets.

  • @ShesSoCold Do it! I've spent countless hours looking at homes in Georgia because H and I want to move south so badly. If I had been able to find a plot of land, a company to build my house and be able to do it in cash, there'd be no question.

I love the Hope in a Jar moisturizer, but I've never tried the foundation.

Have you tried a CC cream instead of foundation? I found that worked better and was a lot lighter than foundation and had added moisture. Most days I moisturize then CC cream and go. On days where I have more time or need to look nicer I use the bareminerals powder foundation and finishing powder. I found that CC cream+loose powder work so much better than a traditional foundation.
  • @ShesSoCold and @cupcait927, DH's dream is to move to AZ or UT.

It's probably about 5-7 years away, but we're serious about it.  We're hoping he can find the right job that will provide the incentive to move.  :)
  • I'd love to leave IL too but everywhere has its own problems. We are really happy with our jobs here too, and the grandparents are all here, so there are zero plans of leaving in the foreseeable future.

    Work vent!
Anyone work with Negative Nancys? There's this dude at work that I can't stand, and haven't been able to stand for years. He has no business acumen. None. And because of this, he says the stupidest shit. This was a guy who went to HR back in 2011 or 2012 demanding a bigger raise (than the standard 3-5% we normally get) to offset the higher healthcare costs hitting our paychecks from the ACA. He also bitched that he "couldn't afford" to contribute to his 401k, when we get an employer match. I told him he couldn't afford not to contribute to his 401k, that leaving the match on the table was literally turning down his own compensation. He couldn't see that.
Now, we've gone through an acquisition and name change. This has been public and in the works for over a year. We just got notice that we no longer need to mention the former name. I overheard him telling someone how ominous that was, that we're "distancing ourselves" from the old name. Idiot, there's a new owner! Of COURSE you don't have to mention what it was before, especially because we've been in transition for a year and now the ownership is final. Of course the new owner doesn't want us to focus on the past, you fucking dumbass. There's nothing ominous about that.

Thanks, that felt good to get out. /endrant.

  • @CharmedPam I haven't heard of that stuff, but Murad isn't hugely popular where I am. I used to use Fix+ in the summer to control sweat as well. If you decide to take a look later, there's diff 'scents' but since you have rosecea I would try scent free first

@ShesSoCold I love Philosophy's Purity face wash but never tried their makeup. If both of those don't work for you, let me know because I have oily skin and I prefer a matte foundation so I can give some options that I like :)

I've tried a couple. I should look into those again and find one I like. The couple drugstore brands I tried did nothing good for my greasy skin.

I get so damned overwhelmed at Ulta. So. many. brands. And I've started to notice that the employees have brands assigned to them. Last time I went in to get a recommendation on a foundation, the lady recommended Clinique. Later I saw on her nametag that she was the Clinique rep. So of course she recommended Clinique.

    Edited to fix typo.

I want our next road trip to be Utah. It looks awesome!

DH, the kiddo, and BIL went out that way last summer (along with CO and AZ).  Family friends also went out there this past fall and a good friend of mine is going out there with her family this summer.  Everyone I know who's been out there said it's an amazing trip and so worth it.

DH wants me to do a trip with him and DefConn, but we'd fly to Vegas and then head out from there.  He wants to explore more of the Grand Canyon.
  • @CharmedPam, I'm glad you found your phone!  Yeeaahhh, NOLA doesn't have a lot of cruise choices.  Though my H and I did take one out of here a number of years ago.  Not many cities have cruise ship ports, so it was pretty sweet to roll out of bed at our own house and hail a $10 cab ride to get to the ship, lol.  I can see the tops of the cruise ships from the windows of the offices at my work.

That would be so fun if you all came out!  My H and I would love to see you all again.  Weather-wise, I'd definitely lean more toward March.  We're not as cold as Illinois in Jan., but we can still drop below freezing at that time of year.  Whereas March is usually awesome weather.  Not too cold, not too hot.

Mardi Gras day in 2019 is March 5th, but the parade season for it starts about 10 days before that.  Probably too close to your cruise and you may not even want to come for that event.  I remember your saying that you "kind of" want to see it, but also "kind of" don't because of the crowds.

Sunday March 24th in 2019 is the Irish-Italian parade that I was talking about a few weeks ago.  Where the float riders pass out cabbages and potatoes, along with the usual tons of beads.  It's nice because it's just like a day-time Mardi Gras season parade, but with a lot more room to breath.

Busy days at work today and tomorrow.  I'm taking Fri. off to get bloodwork, so I need to get all my end-of-month and weekly reports done a day early.  My H is doing fine from dislocating his shoulder on Monday.  He's not allowed to use that arm for 3 days, but he has still been able to get some painting done one-handed.  That was one of the big things the new tenant wanted.  We'd totally repainted the interior, but he also wanted the exterior/interior doors freshly painted.  The bathroom linen closet, trim work, and bathroom ceiling freshly painted.  And the insides of the bedroom closets.  So, so, so much painting done over the last month and into this week, lol.

After my bloodwork on Fri., me, my H and one of our tenants (that we hired for the day) are going to that Section 8 unit that needs a bunch of work before the next inspection.  Which is next week.  All three of us will probably be working there all day and the possibly working some more on Sat.

You know times are desperate when even I am picking up tools, lol.

We also have another tenant who is going to be leaving some time in April/May.  I'm sure that will be some work getting the unit back in shape and then doing showings.

I have decided, once everything is done and squared away with all our rental units, we are going on VACATION.  Maybe two.  I'm thinking about a long weekend in either NYC or the FL Gulf Coast.  But really, I'm leaning toward both, lol.  We need it.  We deserve it!

I really like the itCostmetics brand. It's one of the lighter CC creams I've tried and definitely not oily. Sephora gave it as a sample a while back and I loved it.
  • I gave myself a spending moratorium on things this year. I’ve fallen off the wagon a few times, but for the most part I’m hanging in there. What’s killing me is having to use all of my “old” foundations. I ran out of my UD Naked Skin two days ago and now I’m working on finishing my Tarte Rainforest of the Sea that makes me look super oily. For those of you with really dry skin, it would probably be great. It starts off looking fabulous but then by the end of the day I’m so oily. Using the UD all nighter and de-slick setting sprays yesterday seemed to help.

FI wants to move to Colorado. I want to move to Washington. Right now it’s kind of a moot point as I’m in school.

School today. We’re learning how to suture before class so that should be fun. Hopefully tomorrow I can start clinical. Just waiting for the person to approve my paperwork. I was so angry yesterday. She wasn’t in the office, and she didn’t reply to the email I sent, but she sent me an email asking me once again for my resume (I’ve sent it three times now) and telling me if I didn’t find a clinical site she would start to look. So she’d done nothing for a week, knowing I was desperate for a site. Cool.

Oooohhh, since we're all talking about where we want to move to...

For the most part, I like living in NOLA.  But the summers are absolutely hateful.  Also, as I've expressed before, I have serious concerns about the longevity of this city and want to be long gone before it starts sinking into the ocean like Atlantis.

We've given a lot of thought to "where".  Not so much my H, but I came to the conclusion that I absolutely have to live in a decent sized city.  Which is actually kind of limiting...especially since that is always going to be a pricier option.

I think we'd really like the Carolinas (not on the coast), probably Raleigh-Durham area.  But our real estate goals, alas, might lead us elsewhere.

Or, in my perfect unlimited money world, we run our real estate empire from a gorgeous, trendy loft in the Lower East Side...with a winter home elsewhere.

Speaking of crazy real estate prices, you could have knocked me over with a feather earlier!  There is a fairly new apartment building, though an old warehouse-type building, that is just within the Downtown area.  I happened to see one of their ads earlier today.  A bit shocked by the prices, but I expected to be.

But then comes the real jaw dropper.  The tiny (600 sq. ft) 2 bedroom penthouses were $4200/month.  GET.THE.F**K.OUT!!!

My thought to management:  Oh honey!  This isn't NYC.  You have forgotten yourself, lol.

  • Hey, NOLA ladies, I have a friend going to NOLA's Pride and they can't find any info for travelers.  They said the website is terrible and they are looking at the FB page, but I thought I'd see if y'all had any recommendations where to look.

Also, I just got to send a snarky message to someone on FB about how if you don't want to be invited to "like" the Pride Page, perhaps you should refrain from commenting on the Page.  "Free speech" works both ways.  Take your shitty comments and go, kthanxbai!

I've got to get concentrating at work.  IDK why I'm all over the place, but I'm basically:

    and have been for awhile.
  • @VarunaTT, you know I'm happy to help!  What kind of info is your friend primarily looking for?  I'll PM you my e-mail address.  Feel free to pass it along to your friend, if they want to get in touch with me directly for any questions that might come up for them.

  • H would move us to Hawaii in an instant, if I let him.  Our town is proposing an 8% tax increase after nothing last year (election year - I know you are shocked!) and a 12% increase the year before that.  I'm probably going to go to the Council meeting next week to complain.  Why can't they just go up 1-2% every year, why does it have to be these larger jumps?  Especially when they put MFing artificial turf on the football fields, these aren't even the high schools - this is the equivalent to little league!  Turf, while nice to look at, can actually cause more injuries over the long term.  So this is making me a little itchy to move from our current house, though I love it.  I wouldn't want to move far because of family, but H doesn't feel the same!

Today is the last day of the week in the office for me.  I will be WFH the rest of the week, to stay with DD.

Yesterday I bought us MagicBands and some Disney t-shirts so we can be "That" family at Magic Kingdom.  I'm hoping for a nice picture in front of the Castle or on Main Street that we can use for our Christmas card this year.  H was also rolling his eyes at me!  I told him that at least it is not matching outfits!  I think he would commit me, if I tried that!  I just need to buy the Disney tickets now, but waiting for the next payday to do that.  Since we are staying off Disney property our FastPass+ can only be booked at 30 days anyway.

  • @oliveoilsmom do you buy the Magicbands separately? I thought you got them if you ordered multi day tickets ahead of time - as in that was your only ticket option but I've never actually looked into it.
  • Hey everyone! Just coming up for air since I got a major deadline out the door at Noon. Not without a few snags, however. A super junior person on my team, whose job it is to make sure our production supplies are in stock, neglected - AGAIN - to make sure we had enough of the specialty paper we print on. So we ran out in the middle of my production. Which meant I had to run out to Office Max - while under the gun - to pick up enough paper to get my submission out the door and hold us over until our supplier could make a rush delivery this afternoon. Luckily Office Max had it - I got the last two reams which was juuuuust enough to finish production. Arrrrghhhh.

Crappy weather here again. Rainy and miserable. And we have more snow in the forecast.

I just realized I sound like Eeyore. LOL

At least I only have 3 more hours left in the workday! Hooray!

I think you get the bands for free if you stay on property but you have to buy them (if you want) if you aren't an on property guest.

Staying on property also allows you the use of the Magical Express bus system to and from the airport, bus transportation to the parks and you can book your fast passes at 60 days plus 10.

This.  If you stay on property Magic Bands are included with your package.  We could have gone without them, we are only doing 2 days parks, but I wanted them!  I think it will help eliminate some items we will need to drag into the park with us.  We won't ever stay on property either, with our timeshare - there is a great resort within the Epcot area, so it was not a useless purchase as we will be able to use them again in the future.  Though next time we go, DD will be paying admission, so I would need to buy one for her.
  • The weather is fine but I am absolutely furious.

The company I am working for (a reputable one) gave me a bad paycheck that just now caused an overdraft in my bank account of over a thousand dollars. I'm so pissed off.

The company did escalate the issue but I probably will have to eat an NSF fee because of their mistake.
