Wedding Woes

Stormy Thursday

Both in the weather and the news!

When your President is a national embarrassment:

I’m so excited. I bid a huge event for a national company and won! I needed a big win to feed my salesman ego!  She was hungry ya’ll.

Today its storming; poor Rosie. We just had a thunder strike (is that a term?) that shook the house- you could literally hear my bar cart rattle!

Re: Stormy Thursday

  • Congrats, Kimmi!

I'm dragginggggggggggggg. I'm really hoping this funk I'm in isn't a breakdown. H is trying to help but I don't even know what I need.

We're going to a concert on a Wednesday night next month and we talked off and on about taking the rest of the week off and doing something fun. I'm torn between not being able to afford something fun and needing to get away.

Tonight I'm meeting some work friends for drinks. But H isn't going, so I'm driving, so I'm meeting them for apps. LOL

I just can't with the fact that Guilani is apparently the most transparent part of this administration. But seriously, of course he paid her off. And no lawyer is doing that out of the goodness of his heart, so yeah of course the now President of the United States paid off a woman he had an affair with. I just can't anymore.

One more day until NY! I've pretty much checked out of work already and it's only 9:30. I tried packing last night and realized I have zero clothes to wear and no time to shop.

It's still sunny and warm here!

This is exactly where we are, too. We need a break, together, but with home buying we're trying to save as much as we can. Adulting sucks.

They say the quiet part out loud EVERY DAMN DAY.

    It's stunning...absolutely stunning.
  • Y’all. It is so fucking cold here. It never occurred to me to bring anything besides sandals and I might have to go buy shoes. Wtf?

S+S: congrats on your win, I hope the leaderboard holds. :)

@ShesSoCold could you do a little stay-cation? Maybe stay on the other side of town?

in other news, we have officially told all the immediate family. My mom, expectedly, wants to be there for the birth but I told her to keep her plans for a trip in January. Sorrynotsorry. Other than that, it’s raining and cold. I was supposed to go to yoga with a friend this morning but she slept in so we will meet for coffee later. I need to go grocery shopping to get some healthy breakfast stuff and I messaged a place about a massage later. Self care vacation is in full swing. :)

I'm actually looking into that right now! We live in suburban Chicago and we're not super "city" people so I'm looking at state parks and stuff within a couple hours. We both have the time off, we just need to decide if we're going to go somewhere or stay at home.

I don't even care that he paid off a woman he had an affair with.  I 100% believe that shit has gone down with other men in the White House.

What I can't stomach is his fucking party base of judgmental, queer-bashing, holier-than-thou, moral purity bullshit, prosperity spouting crap people, suddenly not caring about their moral tests.  It's apalling.  I get that everyone wants to look the other way when it's someone they support, but literally:  WTF does Trump have to do before they admit he's a POS, trash of a human?
Nothing. He told us he could shoot someone in Times Square and his supporters wouldn't blink. That's probably the one thing he wasn't lying about.

This, and the fact that he used campaign funds...oopsie!

The moral vacuum that is Trump can just jump off a cliff. Although, I really do like Stormy Daniels, she is coming off as a smart woman in all of this. I hope she keeps that composure throughout. Also, people's view of sex workers really needs to change.

The fact that this is true sickens me. Sometimes I feel crazy because I look at everything and I wonder how people are still willing to defend him and LIKE him. When I hear that someone is a drump supporter, it really does change my view of them as a person. I’ve never felt that way about politics before.

  • Off current topic but hey, it's the randoms thread.

Home improvement people. Thoughts? I have a sliding glass shower door THAT I HATE. An image of the type of door it is is below, except instead of walk-in it's installed on the bathtub. I can't see that it's bolted to the tub, but it's definitely bolted to the tile walls. I hate all the hard-water buildup in the tracks and between the glass panes that's impossible to clean without spilling foul-smelling CLR everywhere; plus with a little one I worry it's a safety issue.

Anywho, what are my chances of being able to take out the doors without irrevocably damaging the bathtub and tiles? I'm hoping a professional could break the caulk seals, unbolt from the walls, and remove the whole thing and leave everything else looki

I thought about Starved Rock but it's close enough to go to in one day. I was thinking of going to southern IL and staying a couple days.

When I say "suburban Chicago", I mean very far west suburbs. Depending on who you talk to, we're not even "suburbs" anymore. I work near NIU.

Wolf Creek or Coon Creek in Southern IL are good camping spots if that is what you are looking for. My H and I went last year and it was great.

Otherwise, Turkey Run is just over the border in Indiana. You can camp, stay in a cabin or they have a hotel. The hiking there is awesome, and a river runs through the park where you can canoe or tube.

My mom finished her degree at NIU when I was a baby.  She used to take me to classes with her in a carrier.  DH's cousin got his masters, and met his wife, there.  :)

Also, my family lives out in the west burbs.

Turkey Run is about 30 min from me.  :)  Beautiful area.

Yep.  West of the city.  FIL lives on the east side.  My one sister lives on the west side, my parents are north, and my other sister is south.  We've got all corners covered, LOL.

This is the first time I've been back on the boards since you posted.  I'll ask my H tonight.  We've never installed one or taken one down, so I can't speak to that personally, but my H has installed tile in bath tubs with showers and I'm guessing he will either know the answer or have a good guess.

Finally remembered to ask my H about this, lol.

Good news!!!  He said this is a fairly easy job to do without causing any damage.  It sounds like, once the door is removed, the only "evidence" it was ever there would be whatever little screw/anchor holes are in the tile and those holes can be filled in with a similar colored epoxy.

The slider part that is attached to the tub rim is only attached by a glue.  A STRONG glue, of course, lol.  But nothing that penetrates the tub at all.

For "difficulty", my H has good medium handyman skills and he said this is a job he could do.  I have almost zero skills and he said there is no part of it I could do, lol.

I replied, "Not even taking the rail off with a scraper?  That seems pretty straightforward and unskilled."  He laughed at me and said, "No.  It is pretty straightforward, but there is a little bit of skill needed." lol.

I asked him if a handyman would do it for a few hundred dollars.  He looked at me a bit crazy, like even a few hundred dollars was too much, and gave an emphatic, "Oh yeah!"  But he does have a habit of sometimes underestimating what people charge.  Still, it shouldn't be too much.  For someone skilled, he didn't think the job would take much longer than a couple hours or so.

I missed this thread too, but we JUST did this to the bathroom condo we bought.  Did I ever post before and afters?  All I see is a small line where the track was. Nothing major and if I wanted, I'm sure I could cover it up.
I may also add my very very very UNhandy husband was able to do this. I'd recommend it!

edit: I didn't do any before and afters because I forgot to take the afters. I'll have to get that done next time we go!

  • I saw this post at the top and I was like, "WHERE IS IT THURSDAY TAKE ME THERE".
