Tuesday

What's up, all?

SSDD, for me.  My H posted the 5-Day Pay or Quit notice on that tenant I was complaining about yesterday.  I'm a little surprised she hasn't contacted me about it but, whatever.  The ball's in her court now and I'm not wasting any more of my time trying to contact her about it.

Our doggy and kitty have been extra cuddly with us, since we got back home.  I think it's their way of saying they missed us :)

  • Such cuties, Banana! Great picture!

I got nothin' today. I should have stayed in bed.

  • Love the pic Banana - God Bless Chiquita!

I bought myself a new to me Coach purse and I'm finding it to be just a tiny bit too small.  I should have tested it out before I confirmed the purchase, but nope!  I may try to resell it for what I bought it for.  I'm going to try it out this week.

My birthday is on Sunday so I am being inundated with birthday freebies!  What a great problem to have!  Today I'm going to try Habit Burger.  After work I'm meeting friends for a Taco Tuesday Happy Hour!  The weather is gorgeous, so we will be outside on their deck too!

  • So cute @banana468!

Not much here; the weather is (knock on wood) finally consistently nice so that's been a really good change. This is the last week of classes and I'm sure it's going to drag, even though I have a TON to do and not enough time to do it in. MIL's birthday is tonight and I'm missing dinner because I'm still teaching the night class. I'm checked out, my students are checked out, we're all just ready to be done.
  • I work my part-time job tonight. My co-workers are throwing me a "surpise" shower...thank goodness for people who can't keep secrets. I am not a fan of surprise parties...I never know what to do with my hands!
  • Also I can't with this NY Attorney General stuff. He was supposed to be an ally, WTF. I guess you really can't trust anyone in government (says the Political Science professor).

We need more women running for office. The electorate is changing and it's time that the candidates who run reflect that!
  • Such a cute picture @banana468! Chiquita looks like what I remember you looking like in your old sig picture from your wedding!

Nothing too exciting today. H and I are gathering things to take to DD and SIL this weekend. This will be the last trip up before the twins are born. We will be doing some more house stuff for them this weekend and then celebrating Mother's Day together with SIL's parents.

I haven't seen @MissKittyDanger lately. Hope everything is going well!

Loving this warm weather but storms are coming tomorrow - welcome to the midwest!

I bought some more clothes from a friend of a friend before she listed it! She has twin boys who will be 2 this summer so perfect age/season wise for our grandsons lol! Baby clothes are so darn expensive that I just can't pass up buying hardly worn thing second hand! The things I did buy are for next summer.

At my book club's grandma shower, I received a gift card for buy buy baby so I bought a pack-n-play to keep at my house when grandchildren come to visit.

    Congrats banana!

I am down 25 pounds and nothing fits.  I've been ordered all sorts of stuff from Old Navy, Land's End, and Kohls.  Now I really need to suck it up and shop for a bathing suit.

Not too much here.  Baseball last night was torture.  I'm already over it and the season just started.  Tryouts for soccer are in a few weeks and the email said "we'll be looking at a trip to DC/Chicago/Philly/St. Louis area next year"  Fuck.

@short+sassy did you previously ever post that notice to her?

I didn't say yesterday but Chiquita made her first Communion on Saturday.   Here's a pic of the happy family.

Today I drove to daycare TWO TIMES because the first time I took two kids but one lunch.

DH can't find his sneakers.   If only he'd PUT THEM AWAY WHEN HE TAKES THEM OFF.  I gave zero fucks as he ran around the house looking for them.   Dood - we had a crowd of people over including 3 additional kids and you leave your shoes in the middle of the floor 5 steps from the closet.   Let this be a lesson.

FYI - catering Saturday was one of the smartest decisions I ever made.!

I typically don't, because she lives far enough away from me that it is a PITA.  But, usually, she lets me know what is going on.  However, this was the first month where it is both late (it's always late) and she copped an attitude and refused to let me know what her plans are.

I did post one in March also, which was a bit of a special circumstance.  She told me she could mail me a money order on the 10th.  Soooo...already 10 days late.  She doesn't have a bank account so it is always MAIL...which takes 3-5 more days to get to me when the rent is already late.  Or I often choose to go pick it up.  I've even given her the option to just go deposit the rent into my bank account.  She doesn't have a car, but there is a branch that is only 10 minutes away (by bus) from her work.  But she's not "comfortable" doing that, smh.

Anyway, I get this frantic call from her on March 10th.  She gets paid on one of those money cards and, when she went to go withdraw the cash, her card had been hacked.  I actually do believe her, because she seemed legitimately upset.  But, who knows, maybe she is a good actress.  She said her employer was sending her a new card and would be replacing the money within 2 days.  Me, being understanding of the situation, I waited one more week.  When they still hadn't replaced the money (supposedly), I posted a 5-Day on March 17th.  She got the money later that week and I went to pick it up.

I normally don't include on my 5-Day instructions on paying the rent, but I did this time.  I wanted to make sure it was CRYSTAL CLEAR that the rent needs to be delivered to ME, within 5 business days.  I even had a "if mailing, please allow 4 business days to ensure the rent is received within this notice's timeframe."   Because I'm not picking it up this time.  I already drove near her area this weekend and she chose not to take advantage of that convenience.

  • I somehow survived this weekend. We have FSIL and her bf over with their dog which was fun. It was like old times. I was canceled off work on Sunday, but I had so much anxiety about the uncertainty that I woke up at 2 am and that was it for me. I ended up getting canceled on Sunday and so it was nice to hang out and chill, but I paid for it yesterday. Work was super busy and I was living on a total of 9 hours of sleep over two days.

Last night I figured, hey, this is cool, I don’t have anything on Tuesday, let’s go to bed early and then sleep in. Well, couldn’t fall asleep until 11:30 and then a 4.5 earthquake woke us up before 5 am. Poor FI, being the anxiety ridden individual he is, had to run around the house turning on all of the lights and looking at everything, then going over the earthquake plan with me in bed. Yes, I know where the gas shut off valve is. Please now let me sleep.

  • @short+sassy, our dog ignores us when we come back (to be fair, the people who take him have 5 kids who give him attention and he LOVES kids, especially ones who gives him attention) so feel special :)
@banana468, what a good looking family! She's very cute.  congrats to her!

So H and I talked about an England/Scotland trip in 2019 around my 40th in August..... but I had a talk with a coworker who told me Greece was such a good trip/cruise for her so I just emailed my travel agent to book a Greece cruise for my 40th instead.  I mean, it's MY birthday and I have wanted to do Greece for such a long time.  I picture myself turning 40 in Italy for some reason.  Of course I cleared it with the hubs before making that call.  yay 2019!

On normal days, our dog ignores us if there is anyone new around.  I think she's just trying to get as many people wrapped around her paw, as possible.  Or if her Uncle F (a good friend) comes to visit.  Her all-time favorite activity is playing ball or, as we call it in our house B-A-L-L, and he does a lot of that with her.  In fact, he is our go-to pet sitter when we are out of town.

She is hilarious!  If you are hanging outside and playing ball with her, but then briefly stop or are distracted or whatever.  She will pick the ball back up that she has placed near your foot and then either put it directly ON your foot.  Or use her mouth to toss it at you, lol.  She is persistent and relentless when it comes to her B-A-L-L.

Congrats on the booking your trip!  Sounds like an amazing way to spend your 40th birthday.

  • I'm here.  It's primary day, so I ran to vote over lunch and then go to the store.  It was more of a PITA than usual because the road from the main road that takes you to mine is closed and there's utility work on the main road.

I saw this dad at the store picking out flowers and asking his infant daughter in a stroller what she thought.  It was so fuh-reaking adorable.

This weather is seriously gorgeous.  I want it to be this way for-ev-er.

Y'all, my kid and his glasses.  He scratched the lens, so we had to get them replaced.  Of course, they were out of warranty.  I got them back last Weds and he broke his glasses again on Friday.  There may have been some yelling and a little crying from both of us.  I am legit BFF's with the merch lady at our optometrist.  She does keep giving me the 'discount' because she feels sorry for me. At least there's that.  ;)

  • @banana468 who knew you were so Jackie-O?!  Great pic!

@charlotte989875 & @NBSquared2017 MI Dems are likely going to have 3 (white) women in the top 3 slots on the ballot - of course people are complaining.  I love it!  The ballot has been filled with white men for centuries!

@charmedpam & @short+sassy  Our dog couldn't ignore a leaf in the house let alone us.  But the cats boycott us for a few hours whenever we return from a trip.

Since I've been in and out the last few weeks, is it safe to assume we have a Baby Belle?t

Today is crazy at work.  I had a call-off for the Friday-Turned-Thursday event; two pop up deliveries for tomorrow, and a new website to finish by Thursday.  Tonight, our local Dem club is officially endorsing H so that'll be fun.  Maybe I'll sleep Sunday.

Is there anyone else here who doesn't love Mothers Day?  I am finally to the point where I do spend time with my mom, but I don't buy her a card or anything.  It is almost impossible to find one that doesn't talk about her role in raising you, or being a role model or best friend.  And while I do really  love my mom, she's none of things.  H and I usually take both the moms together, but this year we're separating.  My mom is going to visit sister & the Nugget in a couple weeks so I'm going to take her for a pamper day to get her Florida ready:).

He's getting sports glasses in addition to his regular ones.  :D

Me. The parent holidays are tough for me, TBH and for the reason you highlighted, exactly. Those sentiments feel fake to me, but I also really do love my mother and know that she did the best she could. We're having lunch on Saturday and I'll pick her up some flowers because I know she really likes them, but yeah I'm not a huge fan [ETA: of the holiday].

New Orleans inducted their first female mayor yesterday.  It only took 300 years.

I haven't seen Southernbelle in awhile.  Don't think there has been an update, so I assume Baby Belle has arrived and she is knee deep in new baby responsibilities.  If so, hopefully they are both doing well.

I've never really gotten into Mother's Day either.  No offense against my mom.  Neither myself nor my H are much for minor holidays.  We typically only celebrate TG and Xmas and even those are pretty low key.  If I lived closer to her, I'd take her and/or my sister/her family out to lunch or brunch.  But, since I don't, I try to remember to at least call.  But usually fail that also.

I sound like a pretty lousy daughter, lol.  However, to me, MD is more an icing on the cake.  The main thing is to let our loved ones know, year round, that we love and appreciate them.  And I do that.

I am literally falling asleep at my desk.  It's only Tuesday you say?

  • @CharmedPam yay for Greece! Very jealous over here; I'm dying to go too but can't convince DH.
My boss just got back from a two week tour of Greece with his family. Also very jealous of that- two weeks!

Pretty much SSDD over here. DH left for a conference so it's just me and the baby until Friday.

Sometimes Mother's Day is hard for me too, but I do love my mom despite the issues in our relationship so I do give her cards, Facebook greetings, and now that we live again in the same city, personal visits on Mother's Day, especially because she is a cancer survivor.

Now that I'm thinking about women, under represented groups, and politics.  I had a funny and snarky memory from the past (last two paragraphs).

Some background.  Louisiana did have a female governor for (I think) 8 years.  She was a Democrat and left office with better balanced books than this state had perhaps ever seen.  There was even a surplus in the budget.  To be fair, Katrina did play a good sized role in that.

Then comes uber right wing Conservative Republican Bobby Jindal.  The first governor in the U.S. who was Indian (from India).  But, see.  It's only a great thing to see under represented groups in key political positions, when they aren't the WORST EVER.  He gutted every social program he could get his hands on.  Yet, despite slashing programs, still managed to leave our economy in shambles and turn the surplus he came in with to huge debt.

He also totally abandoned our state during his last year in office because he was too busy running his pointless, dark horse candidacy for POTUS.

As part of his marketing when he made his announcement to run, he put a clip on (I think) his website of a "secret camera" that had taped the reactions of his two young children when he announced to them that "Daddy was running for President".  He was so PANNED for that because the video actually came of creepy and voyeur-y.  But the best part?  Even his kids looked bored AF, lmao.  I told my H at the time, that the mom should have whispered low enough so the camera didn't pick it up that they would all be going to McDonalds for dinner.  At least THAT would have gotten some enthusiasm, lol.

My other favorite was when he made a big "to do" about stepping down and backing Trump.  Dude, you are so irrelevant.  Trump doesn't even care about your less than 1% of the vote.
