Wedding Woes

Early (kinda) Thursday

Yesterday I overslept.  This morning I hit snooze.  The alarm went off again at 6:08, but I didn't actually wake up until 6:22.  Ooops.

Still cleaning rooms.  My give a darn is busted this morning so I'm sitting in the basement pretending to work while they are supposed to be cleaning.  Last I hear they were playing beyblades though.

Instead of the library yesterday we ended up with a neighborhood playdate at our house.  Nothing says summer like 8 kids making an obstacle course in your back yard.  They did a winter Olympics one snow day so yesterday was the summer.

I've got card club tonight.  We have 2 parties this weekend so I need to figure out what to take.  My only thought right now is gin slushy.  I'm going to need some food too though.

  • Sending good vibes for your interview, Charlotte!

I dragged myself out of bed to work out this morning. I feel good. Gotta make pasta and potato salad tonight for the lake, plus dinner so it was nice to get that out of the way.

Work is SSDD. Today and tomorrow are going to be long as hell.

  • I stayed up so late last night, so super sleepy today.

We went to my nephew's ball game so we could see my grandparents one more time.  They fly out today.  For being in their mid-80's my grandparents are crazy active.  I'm so glad they were able to come up for the last 10 days to be with my mom and us.  But my mom is feeling better enough now that she's ready for them to go home and that's really good news. ;)

We're going to BIL/SIL's this weekend.  DH and BIL are putting new shocks and bearings on my car.  DH and I cannot wait. It will make driving my car so much better (right now, you can feel that it needs shocks and it's a noisy ride...we're also getting new tires in the next few weeks).

We are about a month out from vacation.  I'm starting to get antsy about getting a place to stay via work.  I'm sure it will be fine, but I will be on edge until I hear from the vacation dept. :)

  • GOOD LUCK @charlotte989875!  That's awesome.  ;)

whoohoo @charlotte989875, GL on the marathon.  Did i tell you how much I enjoy watching people run?  I get so inspired even though I know there's a zero chance I'll do it.
@kimmiinthemitten, man that's early.  I don't like the early flights myself but sometimes it's better to get first out.  Have a blast!

So my friend is getting married August 25th and the small group of us (there's 4 including her) who want to do a weight loss challenge from today (May 24th) to a day before her wedding (August 24th).  We are all throwing in $25 and the winner takes all.  I hope it motivates me!  She also suggested doing the 80 day obsession and I'm debating on whether to put my total gym/treadmill to rest for the summer and doing that with her....  I do know I have to go back to the mfp or lose it app :(

edit: oh, and I found out David's Tea is having a sale, so I spent near $60 on tea yesterday.....in hopes it'll help me to distract from food.  That's how tea works, right?  even iced tea?

  • Thanks @kimmiinthemitten @mrsconn23 @CharmedPam and @ShesSoCold; this morning was the first time I felt really confident about the race! I'm super excited!!

I know @CharmedPam, but since I'm only going Sat-Mon I picked the earliest and latest flights I could find.  Aside from the one return trip that took 22 hours.  WTF, who picks that?!

  • @charlotte989875, your first marathon sounds so exciting!  Plus I'm sure it will be even more fun with your friend coming out to visit and join you for the first half.

Not much going on in my neck of the woods.  There is a storm coming into the Gulf that is expected to turn into a tropical depression.  It is lots of rain and thunderstorms predicted starting today and going all the way through Monday.  Ugh, lame!  My H was supposed to be fixing the brakes on my car this weekend, but that will probably have to wait until the following weekend.

I was looking at trips from NOLA to So. CA the other day.  One of them had a schedule of leaving NOLA at 7AM and arriving in San Diego at 7PM the NEXT day.  Because it had some weirdo overnight 30+ hour layover in Denver.

But then I was actually kind of tempted, lol.  I've never been to Denver, other than the airport.  That's enough time to go out to dinner somewhere and then see some sights the next morning.

Other than that, apparently all roads lead to Vegas, lol.  That was the where all the other cheapie flights had their layover.

  • @short+sassy You’d be better off flying into LAX, Long Beach or John Wayne, and then just renting a car and driving the rest of the way down. I always want to get from point A to point B as soon as possible when I fly though. I guess a hefty layover in Denver would be kind of nice.

Today I’m going to attempt to accomplish a goal I’ve had for the past two years. There’s a hike nearby that’s on the more intense side and I’ve always wanted to make it to the “top” (it’s a continuous road, but there’s an acknowledged stopping “point” unless you really want to do a fifty mile loop). I’m bringing some study materials with me so when I get to the top I can just relax and focus for a little while.

Other than that, I just have a lot of studying to do.

  • I had an extra day out of the office yesterday too.  My one day to copy two boxes turned into one box being extremely packed in with single page documents, may of which I needed!  So it turned into a 2 day trip.

So I'm catching up on some things today.  Tomorrow is my last day of work before vacation!  I'm hoping for a 3 PM dismissal too!  I have some projects to do before end of day Friday, but nothing major.  The only big thing I have to do is enter all of my billing hours since I will be gone over the 1st of the month, when our hours are due.

Actually, LAX and Long Beach are both off the table.  I can sometimes find crazy, cheap flights to LAX...like $130 r/t!!!  But my mom lives in Southern OC and she won't drive there.  So we'd have to rent a car or take a shuttle, which then wouldn't save us any money.  Plus, it's a nightmare and time consuming drive.  I've occasionally looked at Long Beach but, at least for me, it's a really expensive airport to fly into and would be the same transportation problems.

John Wayne is great and I've often flown into there also.  But SD often has more and cheaper flight options.  My sister lives in northern SD county.  There have been a few times I fly into SD, stay with her that first night, and then she drives me to our mom's house the next day.

The last time, she had some appointments the next day, and drove me and H over to the train station in Oceanside.  We took that up to the San Juan Capistrano stop, where my mom picked us up.  That was really nice and scenic!  The train basically goes right up the beach.  I took the train for fun a couple times when I lived out there, but it was the first time for my H.

Hmmm...it just occurred to me that train goes all the way to L.A.  Epiphany!!!  I just checked, it's $20.45 (each way) from LAX to SJC by train.  Only a 90 minute trip.  The only wrench is I'd have to take earlier flights than I typically do, because the last one leaves LAX around 5:30ish.

Off to go look for $130 r/t LAX flights, lol...

  • Did any of you catch this article about the 30-year-old guy whose parents needed to take him to eviction court to get him out of their house?  Just incredible the entitlement that some people have.

There was a more detailed article yesterday that outlined the many steps the parents have taken to try and help their son GTFO.  This article is his response to the eviction:

Fun fact, this guy is from a city about an hour away from me so I've been hearing about this guy from the beginning, before it went national news. It's obnoxious.

Part of me was totally hating on the man- child until I realized - these same parents created him.  What have they been doing for the last 30 years that made him believe he never had to move out.  My guess (especially since they even tried to bribe him out) is his laundry, cooking, cleaning, bill paying etc.

  • I actually hope this situation is good advice for the general public.

It's tempting if a friend/family member falls on hard times and asks if they can live in your spare room or crash on the couch for a month or two while they get caught up.  But this is EXACTLY what can happen.

If they refuse to leave when asked, you have to take them to eviction court.  Just like any other landlord/tenant situation.  Even if they really aren't a tenant and have never paid or been asked to pay a dime in rent/bills.  If anything, that can actually just make it a little more complicated.
