My fiance and I were looking for a civil officiant to perform our wedding and we called the Town Clerk's office in upstate New York where we were planning on getting our marriage license. We spoke to the Town Clerk, who said that he could do the marriage ceremony. While we're both happy to have him do it, I looked at the list of officiants who can do marriages in New York and didn't see Town Clerks listed on there. Is he mistaken or was there a change in law that allows it in New York?
