Wedding Woes

Tuesday? Hello?

I just got the invitation to a family friend's wedding. 3 hour gap. The reception is at a hotel and rooms are like $250 so we were going to Uber. So now WTF do we do? Uber to the church, Uber to bar, Uber to the reception then Uber to home? Ugh.

I have GOT to get my fat ass back on the wagon. According to the scale this morning, I've gained nearly 8 pounds in like 2.5 weeks. UGH.

  • I'll put my shit here.  ;)

    1) KY built a toll bridge into Louisville.  When we took it last month to go to SC, we were wondering where the toll booths were.  Yeah...they take a pic of your car and bill you later. And they don't eff around either, the penalties start quickly and are steep (plus they have an agreement with my state to hold your registration if you have outstanding fees).  I just...grr.  If you want me to pay to drive on your road, then charge me at the time I'm on your damn road.

    2) I have this person who e-mailed us about a stay in early June.  They left shit behind in the place and they've also stayed at this resort in the past and had a bad experience and had another 'bad' experience this time.  (my company is a booking service, but not a property owner) Somehow she's done mental gymnastics that we somehow have wronged her for her decisions.  I'm letting her marinate til later or tomorrow because right now I cannot come up with a response beyond, 'And how is your stupidity our problem?'  I'd like to keep my job, so...

Looking at their account history, they like to complain.  I do so enjoy nice, but firm takedowns of people like that.  I will only compensate if my supervisor makes me, but he's more of a hardass than I am.

In better news, I did get 2nd place last quarter in stats.  So I have a little extra $ coming my way.

We meet DefConn's teacher tonight.  DefConn has the same bus driver this school year, which makes me so happy.  I adore his driver.  We had a shitshow of a bus driver when he was in Kindy.

Still rainy and crappy out, but at least we have our air off.
  • I had a moment of panic a few months ago when I thought I forgot to pay a toll. The way ours work now is when you drive the freeway, you make note of when you got on, and the exit you got off, then you go online, enter your license plate and the exits, and pay. I thought I had forgotten to pay a toll from December last year and nearly lost it before FI told me he had paid it the week we used it.

Studying for finals today. I went to clinic almost all day yesterday. Even though my hours are technically finished I’ll continue to go through August. I slept terribly last night. My friend and I went to Cheesecake Factory for National Cheesecake Day and it was predictably packed. I definitely had too much iced tea too late. I need to start cooking again. It’s just so hot here and using the kitchen heats up the whole house. And door dash is so simple. I need help.

  • K is out of town, so last night I went and helped some friends fix an accident in their restaurant kitchen.  It was hard work, but we had some great laughs and basically did a shot an hour to keep us going.

IDK what I'm going to do today.  Ive got some things I need to finish up at home, but it's so lonely.
  • We ordered a hot sauce based on an Instagram ad I saw and HOLY COW it's so damn good. It's called Truff and I did not know I could be in love with a hot sauce, but here we are.
  • I’m cranky today. Someone stole my shower stuff at the gym, we still don’t have a closing date, and I haven’t been sleeping well.

Work is busy so thats good & keeping me distracted but I’m bummed and having a hard time shaking it today.

Ew....who does that? No part of me would want someone else's razor and shampoo if I saw it laying out. I'm really sorry about the house. I remember when our closing got delayed. It was so frustrating. The whole process of buying a house feels like it could fall apart at any second.

They left my razor & toothbrush; took my face wash, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and my toothpaste!

And here’s what I don’t get, why not take the whole thing and throw it out?! This clearly tells someone you stole some of it. If it was just missing I’d have thought I left it somewhere, dropped it out of my bag, etc. but now I know someone stole it.

  • You all are shocking me with these toll stories!  I have never heard of such madness.  Like I really don't have better things to do with my day than login to some website and pay my tolls.  I guess it wouldn't be so bad if it were toll roads I took regularly and did it as a 1-2x/month thing.  But if it was something I only did once in a great while, that would be highly aggravating to remember to do it.  Then spend 5-10 minutes of my time paying it.  When, in a normal world with a toll booth operator, I could have just paid it in seconds.  At the time of using the road.

I'm just tired and annoyed today.  I'm sure the annoyance is related to the tiredness.  There isn't really a reason for it.  We went on a major grocery shopping trip last night.  We usually only do those on the weekend.  I've now had two nights in a row without enough sleep.  I really have to go to bed early tonight and (hopefully) recharge.

I totally revamped my budget yesterday.  Once my PITA tenant moves out at the end of August, I'll have $1100/month less money coupled with some big expenses to get the house ready for sale.  That's a revamp!  It's not pretty, but it's good to have a plan worked out.  I surprisingly still haven't heard from her about the "notice to vacate".  But I'll be texting her on the 2nd (Thursday) asking her about the rent anyway.  "Problem payers" are the most likely to get extra squirrely for their last month of rent.  We'll see.

For my 5 year anniversary at work they do a gift. A friend is asking me on the sly what I would like. Budget is $50. I can't think of anything I'd like. If you were going to get a non-cash gift (has to be an item/items) what would you want?

@charlotte989875 I wonder if someone thought it was fancy stuff bc of the Sephora bag? I mean still no reason to steal, but I wonder if that's why they took some stuff?  Either that or you royally pissed someone off and this was "revenge"
  • an OOT wedding with a 3 hour gap sounds torturous @shessocold.  You  know what? do does an in town one! Brides to be - take your pictures, that's fine, but host a cocktail hour for those not participating in pictures.  And also, don't plan for a 3 hour photo shoot.  How many pictures do you need?
@mrsconn23, the IL tollway website is confusing, they don't really help you on the map of ones you missed.  I've logged on, and just randomly paid a bunch of them hoping to catch the real ones I missed.  Annoying! But paying ALL the tolls to CYA is better than guessing and getting a fine.
@charlotte989875, yeah that's ridiculous. Someone must be hard  pressed to smell nice.  Just think of it as a donation of someone who CLEARLY needed it more than you did.

I had a doc appt yesterday.  With me working out 7 x a week, my low carb, low sugar lifestyle and weight loss I thought my A1C would be good. Great even.  Both the doc and I were baffled that it wasn't.  Like....I'm still baffled by it today.  I follow a low carb diet and I will admit if H orders cake or real ice cream, I may have a bite or two.  Nothing to raise my A1C.  Where the heck are those numbers coming from?  I'm back to pre-surgery numbers.  She took another sample to send off to the labs to double check but I'm not very hopeful about it.  I can count on my fingers the time I had sugary treats.  1/2 a cup of ice cream twice in the last month.  A1C is a 3 month scope....anyway Im bummed about it because I wanted to be off the metformin (diabetes meds) and now I'm just scared to eat anything right now. I did search (I know I know, I'm not a doc) and maybe too much protein can raise glucose levels.  I think I may be eating TO much protein maybe? I don't know.

  • @CharmedPam have you tried seeing a nutritionist who specializes in diabetes? That might help.

Not in diabetes, but I see a nutritionist for the sleeve every 3 months.  I'm sure a LOT of sleeve patients have diabetes. I run through my diet, tell her I'm over the 80 grams of recommended protein but she says that's OK.

  • I've got a project at work that is going to kill my eyes.  I've already been avoiding it as much as possible!  I've only just begun and I've probably got a few days to go before completion.  I think it needs to be done this week, which means COB on Thursday, since I'm off Friday.

DD has discovered that we have fun toys for her outside.  She is constantly pointing outside now to go play!  Which in the evening is fine, but this morning I say, "Time for daycare!" and she by passed the garage door and walked straight to our side door because she thought it was playtime!

I mentioned yesterday that they were having a Hawaiian music and dancing show in my city.  They cancelled it for rain.  Just like the whole last week, the rain missed us.  It was actually a really nice night outside and would have been perfect for this show.  No known rain date, so will probably have to wait until next year.

Also - sad for the bride, but happy to have an actual WW on the board! LOL!

We have an EZpass that works on the IL tollways, IN tollroad, OH, PA and KY ones too. That way we don't have to worry about missing a point. Of course, I do worry that the open road tolling on I-294 doesn't always capture the pass and boy have I been putting some miles on I-294!

  • We also have something called Express Lanes which require a purchased transponder linked to an active account to use the tolls. You can't drive in the lanes and then pay later or during the drive. I hate the new Express lanes.

I'm sorry to hear that!  I know how frustrating and disheartening it is to feel like you are working so hard and doing all the right things, but then not get the results you're expecting and feel like it was all for nothing.  It wasn't ((hugs)).

I know it is a pain and extra work, but try keeping a food diary and checking your blood sugar levels often.  You might see a pattern in something you eat regularly that causes your blood sugar to rise.

There are a lot of puzzling foods out there.  Foods that cause a blood sugar rise in some people and don't in others.  My stepfather has Type II diabetes and his blood sugar skyrockets if he eats pasta.  But for me?  Nope.  Not at all.  I've heard potatoes or bread can be like that also.  Dairy products are a problem for me, but they aren't for most people.  Even non-fat milk will cause a rise for me.

Corn and carrots are sneaky and can be real blood sugar raisers.

Salad dressings can be high in sugar and/or oil.  High fat content, like oil, is just as bad as sugar for raising levels.

I've always heard that proteins are the best for blood sugar control, as long as they aren't high in fat and aren't marinated in or covered in a sauce with high sugar levels.  Teriyaki sauces...WAY bad, lol.  That is an extreme example.  But sauces can be sneaky.

And sometimes there is no explanation.  You can do everything perfectly and still have trouble controlling it.  Sorry to go off track, but that is an area where my H lets me down.  Blood sugar control is a constant see-saw, it's a tightrope.  My blood sugar rarely goes too low, but it WILL happen sometimes.  Unless I keep it constantly too high, which is super bad in the long term.  I've explained that to him over and over again.  But he still gets upset with me when I have a low episode and grills me over "what did I do wrong".  I know he does it out of love and worry, but it's not helpful and is just upsetting.

I think they're pretty reliable. But, if the EZpass works the same as the i-pass, the little lights will tell you. At every toll, there's a little blue and yellow light to the left and just after. If just the blue flashes, you're good. If both blue and yellow flash, you're okay but the account is getting low and if just yellow flashes, that means it wasn't charged/toll violation.

And, of course, stupid IL doesn't send you a bill or anything until you've racked up like $80 in tolls, fees, etc.

I hear you!  I spent way too long on Amazon the other day looking for this very thing.  For women's tanks, I could not find what I was looking for.  At least for a reasonable certainty that it would fit my needs.

Then it hit me.  I looked at men's tank tops.  Found just what I wanted within minutes, lol.  Lots of eye candy with the models was just an unexpected bonus ;)

No, not really. It's my mom's best friend's daughter's wedding so we only know the parents of the bride, B&G and MOH. I doubt they want to haul us around. LOL

We probably have time to drive to the ceremony, drive home and then Uber to the reception.

BUT! I just looked at maps and the reception is right in the middle of downtown of a big town so we'll be able to Uber there right after the ceremony and find a bar nearby. Phew! :P

  • @6fsn For tank tops, I've become obsessed with the A New Day line of Any Day tanks at Target. They're basic every day tank tops but come in a ton of colors and patterns and are super comfy. They're fitted but the material is thick and they're not super low cut. Plus they're less than $10 a piece.

Sorry to hear that @charlotte989875. That is really a shitty thing to happen.

Still waiting for employers to "get back" to me. Working a "survival job" that doesn't cover my rent and other expenses. My parents are helping me but they are being controlling and nickel-and-dining me.

    Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigh.

I was taking a survey from Rent the Runway recently.  They were asking about overall style, etc.  They asked for my last clothes purchase and from where.  They mentioned so many brands I've never heard of.  And, the last place I purchased clothes, JC Penny, wasn't even an option!

Also, they REQUIRED me to answer which style person on Instagram I follow.  Ummm, I don't follow anyone like that!  I couldn't even leave the question blank, I had to put someone.  I probably should have put someone funny, like Mr. T., but I just put "none."

I officially felt like an Old after taking that quiz!
