My fiancé and I are getting married in NC in Spring 2019. Immediately after traveling for our honeymoon, we are expecting an out-of-state move for my fiancé's job. My last name is French, but we are planning on using the English translation when we hyphenate. (For example, 'Deschamps' would become 'Field,' so our new last name would be Field-Smith).
I have a couple of questions:
1) If we change our names on our marriage license, how can I expect that to affect our honeymoon and our potential move? (Ex. If we have to move into a new apartment four days after our honeymoon, would we be able to sign the lease with our new name from our marriage license if our driver's license/passports etc. don't match it?)
2) Has anyone changed their names after they got married and what was that process like?
Is it harder to do? Do you have to change your marriage license? Is it worth it?
3) Has anyone heard of modifying a last name in the manner discussed above since Field is just a translation of my name but isn't my legal last name?
Any insight would be very much appreciated!
Thank you so much!!
