We haven't hit Arctic blast yet but will soon.   DD was already asking since we had the news on yesterday, never do and she's experienced the hysteria that becomes a weather report.

I had a great conversation with my SIL the other day.   She is doing as well as could be expected and I am in awe of her strength.
OMG.  I loathe the news and all forms of social media at the moment.  Because I am old as dirt, I have "lived/survived" all the historical Chicago storms of snow and cold temperatures.  The "Big One" of '67, the insane winter of 78/79, the polar vortex year...….But in the past few days the local news and social media has informed me that this is the year my pipes will freeze, my furnace cannot accommodate these temperatures and I can't stick my nose out the front door without fear of it falling off!
We had a decent snow today.  Our district was about the only one that decided to have a late start versus a snow day.  It was clearly the right decision.  To hear parents wail and moan, however, you'd think no one had ever seen snow.  We did not get the expected totals, and the roads were clean by 9:00 AM.  Farther north near the WI border was expected to get the worst.  My SIL teaches in a district there, and they closed.  She spent the day at a snow hill which required her to drive to it.  I have NO doubt we will be closed Wednesday.  All the YMCA's, including the Chicago area, have already declared they will close.  This is a major change and hardship, as many of our students attend the Y as day care on emergency close days.
@banana468, I applaud the grace and strength your SIL is showing and will pray that wherever she is drawing from continues to guide her.
