New York-Long Island

Bridal salons?

Hi there, new Knottie here. I've been a member for a while, but frankly I've been so wrapped up in planning, I don't know how everyone has the time to post! lol

I'm trying to knock out flowers, music and photo/video before I head to grad school in September (which I think is suicidal enough...) but of course my mom is urging me to look at dresses, too.

Where are the best places to look for wedding dresses on Long Island?

Bridal Reflections in Massapequa was my first experience, and they seemed nice, but at 13 months out I still feel kind of like I'm 'previewing' as opposed to actively looking. And another thought, should I be looking actively?

Thanks!

I bought mine at 11 months, there's no reason you can't be actively persuing it now.  Enjoy it!  I got mine at Demetrios in Macys at the Smith Haven Mall.

I bought my dress over a  year out, so there's really no need to wait. I got mine from Paradise and I seriously regret it. They've been horrible to deal with and it's like pulling teeth to get information out of them. I'm honestly afraid of how my alternations are going to look.

I don't care if it comes together in the end, the stress was totally not worth it. Bridal Suite in Centereach I think would've been a better choice, but they nit-picked at my weight, which pissed me off. They were great to a friend of mine though.

I got my dress at Helen's Private Bridal Collection in Commack.  Beautiful dresses, designer names you recognize, but all under 2k.

I bought my dress from Village Bridal in Babylon.  They were very nice and helpful.  I actually found my dress somewhere else but wanted to order it there because they were so nice to work with when I tried dresses on there.

I went to BR too, but then actually went to Lylette's in Bellmore.  It was small and the staff wasn't as 'sell sell' as BP.  Also all their dresses were SO Reasonably priced, and I found my dream dress there!

Also, my mother bought her dress there in 1978 so they have a long reputation and aren't going anywhere.

Bridal Reflections in Massapequa is where I bought my dress.  I had Nicole help me and she was fabulous!  The price was very reasonable!  Also, I got my bridesmaids' dresses from them and since I bought my dress from them, my girls got a discount.  I highly recommend using BR!  I walked in with pictures of dresses I liked and didn't liked.  I told Nicole all of this and she took my likes and dislikes and found several dresses she thought I might like.  My dress was actually the 5th one I tried on.  I bought my dress at 15 months before, so I really don't think you are rushing it.  Don't get discouraged and don't buy a dress just because you're frustrated with trying on dresses.  My advice is to look through magazines and on here and find dresses that have things you like about them and don't like about them.  Then take those ideas with you and go see Nicole!  I hope this helped!

I went to Demetrios Bridal Salon in the Smithaven Mall as well.  I love the service there! The staff is so nice and they made it such an enjoyable stress free experience each time I have contacted them. They also have beautiful choices of veils and headpieces. Don't feel silly about when your going to preview dresses.  Every bride is different and has a different schedule-do whats best for you! You'll know the right dress when you see it! :) Good luck to you and happy planning!

If you aren't ready to start looking, don't make yourself. I have 9months to go and I haven't found a dress yet. I want to have one ordered by the 6 month mark, originally I wanted it by 8 months, but I just can't seem to find one I like! And I'm getting overwhelmed since I've completely lost any vision of what I really want.
As far as where to go, here are my experiences:
Paradise- went there last summer after I got engaged, way to early to start looking, but they don't tell you the designer or style number and no pics until you buy.
Lillettes- very nice there, decent selection, good price range.
Angel Bridals- went there since I work with the daughter of the seamstress, but they had a very limited selection at the time and only a few in my budget. They had a bunch of off the rack. Lets you take pics.
Village Bridal- best place I went, large selection with a huge range of prices, lots of maggie sottero gowns. Very nice salon, the girl who helped me was very nice.
Fantasia- large selection, helpful people. Allowed pics.
Bridal Suite of Centereach- large selection, very nice there. Allows pics.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you.  I am 13 months out as well and I go to law school so over the summer I wanted to knock out as much as I could so I could focus on school without falling behind.  I already got my dress over the summer and I know it's really early but I don't think there is such a thing as too early especially with our hectic schedules.  I'm not going to get it altered until the spring (hoping to drop some weight as most are).  I got it at David's Bridal.  I also went to Paradise Gowns in Patchogue which I thought were terrible and had bad service and high priced gowns.  I specifically wanted a dress with a pick up skirt and they only had 1 to choose from so their variety I felt was limited.  David's Bridal in Lake Grove I thought was really good in their pricing and selection and everything is good so far.  Only thing was that I kept getting a different salesperson each time but that's fine everything has gone great so far.  All of my bridesmaids also have their outfit.

I have a question for you actually.  Are you planning on wearing a bolero or shawl or anything?  I need to look into that since I'm sure it will be cool as the weather here has already dropped considerably this month.
