Wedding Woes

So, for Friday morning...I saw Karma as a beatific vision Thurs morning

I was supposed to be at work at 8:30, I had said I'd be 5 minutes late when I was given the 'earlier than normal' shift, then on the freeway, traffic was at a standstill. So, super late.

It was one of those things where you couldn't see what the problem was, so we were all basically holding our lanes, and waiting. Finally, as I got to the edge of where there's a bridge over another freeway, there's a cop, SUV with lights on, blocking the left lane.

So traffic is merging together into the 1 lane as well as could be expected (there's an exit there too so a bit of chaos, but, not to bad.)

When I"m about 5 car-lengths past the cop car I hear a squeal of tires, a screech of brakes, and I braced...because if someone plowed into the back of our line of cars we were going to all feel it.

And I hear the crash and...

I look in my rearview and realize that there was some jackass in a sports car who whipped out of 'line' and tried to go down the empty right lane and didn't see the cop car until moments before he hit the back of it.

Everyone got out and was walking around, so they were ok.

The cop car was an SUV so...drivable.

The sports car's hood was shaped like an a-frame tent.

And then I went to work late. (and I've no idea what happened to start the initial block/reason for the cop cars)

(also, I called work to say "uh, more like 15 min late, but I only called the main # becuse, driving. I got a call from my supervisor when I was 1 block away and I explained she hadn't heard the msg yet, accident, I was almost there.
She had 2 of us scheduled early for a group, and both of us had weirdo things happen [my coworker was the pedestrian witness to a road rage incident where the injured party chased down the person who cut him off and smashed in her windows] and were late.
The morning @ work was for shit, but, still.)

  • I just dont get how people dont know there’s a reason for one lane!  We aren’t all stopped in one lane for our health! People who drive on the shoulder and try to sneak in the last possible second irritate me.  I cheer on people who don’t let them in!

  • Also, this was a really long week.

  • Karma in action is always a sight to see.

Last night was a long.  I ended up hauling DefConn into a Medcheck because my spidey senses were telling me something was up that didn't need to wait.  After waiting for over 2 hours, he has strep.  So yeah, definitely need to chat with our PCP to get his thoughts on how long we should let all this stuff ride before seeing a specialist. (he's had strep twice now this year, along with an ear infection last month)  I took him home, then ran to the store to get his Rx and some sick kid stuff (powerade, more pain meds, beer for me).  The frat boys in the beer aisle took one look at me and parted like the red sea so I could find my beer.  ;)

DH did clean the kitchen and ordered pizza.  He also went with FIL to see a house.  FIL put an offer on the house, so now we wait.  But it's really cute and the perfect size for FIL.  It's definitely downsizing from his current home.

Our systems were down most of this morning.  I stripped DefConn's bed and lysoled a bunch of stuff, I also did some more packing, and ran laundry.  I was just about to request the afternoon off and then the system came back up.  Ah well, got the best of both worlds with the unexpected downtime this morning and I don't have to dip into vacation time I didn't really want to take.  ;)

Amen! I hope if I’m ever that person, whoever is riding with me calls me out on that.

Sending healing vibes for DefConn, @mrsconn23!

I’m finally caught up at work and waiting for my boss to send me some more stuff to work on. I might actually get to take lunch for once! I did sneak in sending a peace group e-mail, renewing my library books, and ordering next month’s book club book.

Tomorrow is my memoir writing group, and then I’m volunteering at an event centered around healing from gun violence. After that is a much-needed chat with my sponsor. I’ll probably go grocery shopping tomorrow night too; we are out of everything.

Sunday we’re celebrating my parents’ 45th wedding anniversary. We’re just going to order lunch and hang out. After that, DW and I are doing our annual ritual: every year on our anniversary, we go to Starbucks and we each order a Very Berry refresher and we split a chocolate chip cookie, because that’s what we did on our first date.
You’re giving me the case of the awwww’s.  Enjoy!

I'm out of routine today. Took baby B to an allergy appointment. The Dr rubbed me the wrong way and I am annoyed we had to go get blood work instead of doing the scratch test bc he said he was uncooperative during his vitals exam. Uhh yea he's 2.5 so of course he's going to turn his head when you're sticking something in his ear.  wtf.  I'm still pissy 3 hours later. Now have to wait 3 weeks for results and pay for an office visit to hear the results instead of having them instantly today.

Going to monitor my inbox for work but not do much more. I have to work out today. i haven't worked out since last Friday

Instant driving karma is the best.  There are speeding cameras all over by me (our city speed limit is 25) and you can always tell who isn't familiar with them bc they tailgate, honk frantically, and fly around the cars going under 25...the camera lights flash like crazy a moment later and it's just gratifying, lol.

Feel better soon DefConn and what a nice anniversary tradition @OurWildKingdom :)

Errands + spring fest at our local botanic garden tomorrow, enchiladas suizas, guac and fresh salsa on Sunday.
  • I think I’m going to urgent care today. This is day 15 of being the same level of sick and I’m over it. I’m not usually antibiotic happy, but I think I could use some. I was sick from January to the end of March and now I’m sick again. I’m so over it. My immune system is shot. Plus this is really impeding my gym plans, work plans, and Cancun is around the corner. On the bright side I’ve been able to watch all of the things on Netflix.

    Happy anniversary, OWK!

  • I am so ready for this weekend.  Also, I need to eat lunch, but food sounds so damn uninteresting right now.  I am slammed at work through no fault of anyone, but the grind is getting to me.  Yesterday the Knot wouldn't let me log in and it was all very odd looking.

K works all weekend.  I don't have too much planned, but I am going to get to one of the local theatres to talk to them about volunteering a few hours/week.  The director is an old friend from college, so it'll be fun, no matter what.  I'm very restless just going to work and going home and I need something to do with myself.
  • OWK - That is adorable that you recreate your first date each year!  Happy Anniversary!

MrsConn - Poor DefConn, but at least he should start feeling better with the antibiotics quickly!

GBCK - I witnessed driving karma too!  A highway I had commuted on for a job was under construction and always backed up.  One morning, an asshole, came speeding up the left shoulder and kicked up rocks and construction debris all over the cars in the left lane.  About 30 seconds after he sped by, a cop was chasing after him!  He was still pulled over by the time I caught up and passed him!

The dog meet, was both fun and sad.  It was fun because the foster home's other two labs were adorable and friendly.  One even played fetch with DD and she was in heaven!  But the dog we went to meet, was so sad due to how frightened and standoffish she was.  She did come up to my back a few times to sniff me, but mostly kept turning away when I offered my hand.  The foster mom did take DD up to the dog on her own and the dog sniffed DDs hand and was wagging her tail.  She let DD do a few pets, but then wanted to leave.  We were there for 45 minutes and even by the end, the dog was staying far away.  She will be a very difficult placement for the rescue.

This weekend we have family bloodwork!  LOL!  DD needs to annual lead testing and H & I are getting routine adult bloodwork.  Thankfully, we were able to make appointments one after the other, so I'm hoping we get in and out quick.  We will probably go to the Amish mart too, since H & I have to fast for our bloodwork, we will be wanting for a yummy treat!  We will also do church on Saturday and have invited Hs friends over for dinner & movie.  Not sure if they will come over yet though.

  • I went to urgent care and they gave me antibiotics for a bilateral ear infection with respiratory complications. Ugh. Hopefully that kills it.
