Re: Below Deck Mediterranean?

  • I do, but I haven't watched it yet. I was watching The Bachelorette last night.

I record it but haven't watched. I thought about deleting from my DVR as I've been kind of over Below Deck but with most shows on summer hiatus I need something. Is it mostly the same cast as last season?
  • I have actually never heard of this show! But I just looked it up.  I wonder if I don't get Bravo?  Though I feel like I do.  Since so many of you are taping it, I'll assume it is good reality drama and see if I receive that channel, lol.

@kvruns, I HATE summer hiatus.  Just a couple months ago, I felt like my DVR was exploding with good shows to watch.  Now I keep looking at the same DVR menu of recorded shows and I'm like, "What? Still nothing new taped?" lol.

  • I have to watch.  I'm going to here in a minute.  I thought it came on tonight, not last night.  My days are all screwed up.  ;)

There are some folks from last season as well as some new cast members - including a chef with some questionable techniques. I'm already wondering if she (the chef) really has the credentials she claims to have.
  • I haven't watched it yet, but as long as Captain Sandy is on it, I'm watching.

same! My mom kept bugging me to watch a series on Netflix that she liked but I was like dude I have 1000000 shows on DVR to watch. Now it is all over and I have nothing to watch so I rewatch Hallmark movies LOL.

I always wonder about the chefs. I mean they seem to know how to cook but at the same time seem to be just off. I know its for drama like purposely making things they know the guests don't like but seriously.

    She is!!!!
  • Ben was the best chef. I wish they'd bring him back, for either Below Deck.

Adam grew on me after his second season.

Agreed. Ben is fantastic. He's hands down the best. And I could not stand Adam on his first season, but I liked him more his second season. Adrian was a talented chef, but I didn't really like him as a person.

The chef on Below Deck Med this season is not only an awful chef (thus far), but shows herself to be an awful person in an upcoming trailer I saw.
  • THE CHEF IS KILLING ME.  I wanted to hide under my desk from second-hand embarrassment of all the things.  I thought Below Deck's (regular) chef was insufferable last season, but I'd take him over Mila.

The British guy is going to be a wildcard.  I could see him being a problem.

It seems that Joao has changed, which is kind of amazing. But I'm sure it's not a complete 180.

This season looks so crazy.  I can't wait to watch this episode again with DH. (Yes, I watch every ep twice because I'm too impatient to wait to watch with DH. We stream it the day after. ;)

Chefs are always different.  Back of the house is always a helluva crew, even in fine dining.

@sparklepants41 oh, I know Captain Sandy is on it.  :)  When she came out, both K and I high fived each other and went about plans to win the lottery, so we can book a cruise with Captain Sandy and Hannah.   Then we were like, what would this big gay cruise look like? and decided that we'd definitely be a hot mess express, but probably hella fun to watch.  With no weird food things either.
  • I hated Adrian! He was such a creep in the end.

Oh yeah, he was terrible.  I wish they'd bring back Ben or Adam.  I think Ben got his own show though...doing chef stuff in the wild or whatever.

Maybe they'll fire this season's chef and bring back an old one like they did that one season.

Sandy does always seem to be at odds with the interior vs. Lee always seems to be at odds with the deckhands/Bosun.  It's interesting to see the dynamics play out between the two different series and captains.

Why do I not remember Adrian?? I thought I'd watched all seasons but I only remember Adam and Ben
  • Adrian was just on the last season of regular Below Deck.

Hmm maybe I didn't watch that then and just watched Med
  • Bump, anyone else watch?  Thoughts?

DH and I watched last night.  It was better the second time.  I love the shady editing they do on this show.

I did listen to an interview with Hannah yesterday and she said they are filmed 24/7.  She also said the only time they can actually get a decent amount of sleep is when they're between charters (and after the season) and also, that their season is short (they film only for 5-6 weeks at the end of the season) compared to regular yachting seasons.

I still just can't believe this chef really is Le Cordon Bleu trained - with the crappy nachos, old el paso tacos (really? really???), and MICROWAVING THE STEAK.

Also I am so glad they have subtitles for Jack because his accent is impossibly thick.

Her cooking really hurt my soul.  I mean, I'm not opposed to that for my every day menu...but if I'm paying tens of thousands of dollars for a luxury vacation, it better be some top-notch shit.

The guests are entirely too nice so far.  The crew is getting lucky with them.

    Ugh. I really hope not.
ETA: That would mean Bravo had sunk to an irreversible low in my book.

I just finished it and I think I’m going to be a yacht chef bc I can do burgers and tacos.
  • BUMP AGAIN.  Who watched?

I saw a rumor online that the chef does get fired and they do bring in Ben to finish the season.  Her food is a travesty and after this week...

  • I watched! Her comments in the van on the way to dinner/drinks were atrocious and disgusting.

And I didn't care for her attitude at all when Captain Sandy sat her down after the charter guests had left. There is NO WAY that the photos Captain Sandy was showing her of plated food she submitted with her CV were actually of her cooking. NO WAY.

The baking soda cake?!?!? And then she had the audacity to be butthurt when the person who made it got the credit for it? Dude.

Mila can go to hell.  Her comments were awful and I loved the deckhand's (not Jack) response to her. Her food is awful too.

I have such a girl crush on Captain Sandy.  Watching her slice that ham......

  • DUDE!   Mila and her whole, "I don't do cakes because I didn't take passitere(?) (too lazy to google) in school," and "I can't slice the ham because I'm not a butcher."

YOU WENT TO CORDON BLEU (supposedly)!  You didn't watch people do that shit?  You've never tried it, ever? In any kitchen? EVER?! I call bullshit on her resume.

She has zero redeeming qualities for what she's been hired to do.  And yes, I loved that the deckhand (Travis?...I think?) called her a waste of oxygen and to stay far away from him.  Her reaction to the guest crying was bullshit too.  Ugh.  She embodies all the qualities of toxic masculinity.  And her asking all the dudes if they're gay was so gross.  I really hope she gets fired by the end of next week, but I bet it won't be until episode 4 or 5.

    Those nachos were barf!

I also call BS she went to the cordon bleu. They offer short term certificate courses, and I bet she did that than get the actual diploma. No one would microwave steaks that went to actual culinary school.

I am not sure about the Scouse guy, but the Aussie guy seems like a creep.

To the bolded: I'm on the fence about Jack as well. On the one hand he's kind of funny, but on the other hand he doesn't seem to be that much help to the other deckhands.

The "Aussie" guy is Joao (Zimbabwean) and YES. Last season he was a chauvinistic douche and this season I am not buying his sudden " nice guy" routine. I think he will reveal his true asshole nature in coming episodes.
