How did the weekend go?

For those of you who have the day off, I hope you are enjoying it.  For me, work is even quieter than usual.  Even though it isn't a holiday for us, it seems like a lot of people took a vacation day.  I think there is going to be a big chunk of coworkers coming back on June 1st.  My company wanted everyone to come back on May 18th, but gave up to a two-week "limbo" for people to make arrangements.  But June 1st is the hard line.  Everyone has to be back.

It was an eventful and busy weekend.  Our neighbors from across the street, they are also good friends, had their main drain pipe break on Fri.  My H stepped in and got things rolling for them.  He talked to our tenant, who runs the Airbnb on the other side of our duplex, and got them booked to stay there.  He also got them in touch with our plumber friend, whom they hired.  The work even got started Sunday.  I think it will be done by Tues.

For us, we went to the bank Sat. morning and then did a BIG Costco trip.  We had a list of a few things we needed to get, but also planned to walk around and see what they have, because we hadn't been there in almost 3 months.  Our average purchase there is $220.  We spent $450!  It was shocking, especially considering we didn't go in with a very large list, lol.  We also thoroughly cleaned our stove, which hadn't been done in eons.

Edited to add:  Oh yeah!  And to quote from Monopoly..."Bank error in my favor".  Twice!  Not really errors, lol.  But my state income tax return hit my checking account, so that was a few hundred bucks I wasn't expecting.  I also found out I've been overpaying my flood insurance since 2017!!!

Here's how that happened.  In 2015, FEMA added an annual surcharge of $25 per policy for owner-occupied, single family houses (SFH).  $250 annual surcharge for a multi-family and/or non-owner occupied SFH.  It was BULLS**T!!!!  Because I had to pay that extra $250 for my PERSONAL home, just because it is a duplex instead of a SFH.  Well, apparently FEMA came to their senses in 2017 and changed that, so it would only be the $25 surcharge.  But God forbid my agent notify me of it, so I've just been paying the higher amount all this time, because a signed form has to be sent to FEMA to get the lower surcharge.  Long story short, I found out on Friday when I went to pay this year's flood bill that my surcharge should have been changed years ago.  The additional $225 for this year will be able to be removed from this bill.  I can also get it back for previous years, but that will have to come as a check.  So now I'm waiting, waiting, waiting!  Though I wouldn't be surprised if it takes a couple months.

Re: Memorial Day Monday

  • Canadian long weekend was last week {Victoria Day} so I'm working today.

    Weekend was good!
    Saturday was mixed lol
M planned on going fishing/kayaking. His reel blew up so he came home early.

My mum did come over. We spent most of the time outside and tried not to look at each other while talking because some points we were not social distancing.

BabyKitten was SOOOOO confused when my mum came over! Since the door was unlocked, I told her to just come in.
It took about 15mins for BabyKitten to kind of chill and stop staring at my mum like "why is this not facetime?" then raced for the door to demand we go out lmfao!
We didn't go far, but we didn't rush so we were out for awhile. When it was nap time, she went down super easy lol

My mum stayed until after nap so BabyKitten could say bye.

    Sunday I had 2 wine fairy drops :) One from a neighbor and another from a friend {whom I said she should have stayed so I could at least say hi!}
Then my aunt, uncle and nana swung by for a distanced visit and give BabyKitten her bday gift.

Guys .... she's gonna be 2 on Thursday!!
We're gonna do a facetime singing of Happy Bday probably Saturday. I'm ordering fancy donuts for us :)

I'm here, for once!  Weekend was pretty good.  I took the dog for a walk because I was planning to "steal" an elderberry bush from a forest near my house to put into my backyard.  Found a baby one that I didn't need a shovel for, and brought it home and planted it.  It looks like there is also a big one that is going to fall into the stream due to erosion, so I might save that one and take it home as well.

It was supposed to rain here yesterday and today, but we got nothing, and we are so dry.  I would like some rain.

And my cherry tree blossoms all dropped this weekend, which is a little sad.  It looks beautiful for a week, and I was really enjoying it.  I hope we got a good crop of cherries this year!

@short+sassy Hooray for getting money back from FEMA!  That sucks that you've been overcharged all this time.  You would think they would notify people .... And how was the state of things at Costco?  I've noticed my local grocery store is starting to get items back in stock that they have been out of, like flour and oats.  They are still out of baking powder, and I'm running low.

I didn't notice them out of anything, though I didn't go down the aisle with TP/paper towels.  They had flour, I'm not sure about oats.  They also had a large and STOCKED aisle display of hand sanitizer!!!  I was like GTFO, lol!  $10 for a 32 oz. bottle, which is pretty big.  I went ahead and grabbed one.  My H and I are more than halfway through our current (small) supply and were planning to DIY hand sanitizer after that.  But now we don't have to.

We were SO lucky with our timing also.  When we got there, we just walked right in.  But, when we left, there was a huge line of people waiting to get in.

We'll be eating good for awhile, lol.  Stocked fridge and freezer.  They also have a new product that is hilarious.  It's just like a little kid's freezy pop, the kind that comes in a long and thin pouch.  Except it's a frozen cocktail with vodka in it.  Oh yeah!

I got one to try.  They're not in the freezer section because they don't have to be frozen or refrigerated to stay good.  They're in a plastic tub of 18.  It's two flavors.  One of them  is Watermelon Hibiscus.  I already tried that one and it's pretty good.  I think the other flavor is pineapple something, maybe pineapple-coconut.

Hand sanitizer!  Holy cow - I haven't seen that in ages.  We still have some, but we've been running low for a while, and every time I go they are out.  I was even having trouble finding hand soap for a while, but finally got some.  I still have bar soap to fall back on, but I'm not a big fan of bar soap anymore.

Frozen cocktails sound delicious.  I drink more in the cold weather than the warm because I usually like the hot alcoholic drinks (I love me an alcoholic coffee or hot chocolate), but alcoholic freezies might change me over to a summer drinker.

@MissKittyDanger I had to google wine fairy drops.  What a great idea!

  • @kerbohl I'm pretty sure they started in the states but they're doing in my city :) it's a cute idea and I'm gonna try to fairy some people also. Kind of a "pay it forward" idea

I recognize the mead hall behind this house from something - a television show or something on Youtube.  Didn't know this property was for sale!  Wish I was richer.  Though I don't know what to think of the bathtub in the bedroom.

Well, that is...different, lol.  The exterior of the house is just okay looking, but the inside is phenomenal.

I'm not sure what to make of that mead hall, lol.  I like it, but it's weird.  Especially the "two thrones" decoration.  But hey, perfect spot for anyone that wants a medieval themed wedding or party!

The pool seems too "plain" considering the price tag.  It's like it's just thrown into a grassy area.  There's no decking or anything like that around it.  Not a big deal, it just struck me as odd.

I went on a showing a few years ago with a house that had a jacuzzi tub inside the master bedroom, across from the bed.  It was even set inside this alcove that was raised a little bit from the rest of the room and had a couple steps to get to the platform it was on.  It was a big master bedroom, even with the jacuzzi tub in it.  There was also a sitting area, like a mini living room, when you first walked into the room.

The whole house was fairly dated.  So, just to complete the picture, the master bedroom was in a color scheme of medium-pink and magenta.  And the stairs leading up to the jacuzzi were actually carpeted (gross) in the same pink carpet as the rest of the room.

Y'all, I apologize so much for not thinking to take some pictures, lol.  It was truly a sight to behold.  While I have never seen a '70s porno, this looked like a room that would be in one, lol.

@short+sassy My imagination will have to do.  You had me at medium-pink and magenta colour scheme.  I like minimal pink ... and pink carpet, on the steps to a jacuzzi?  My goodness - I'm just picturing the mold underneath.

The house I grew up in had orange shag carpet in the living room with wood paneling - very seventies.  The people who bought the house from us redid it by painting the walls orange to match the carpet.

Oh no!  Wood paneling is bad enough, but painted orange?  Yikes, lol.  I have sometimes seen where people have painted wood paneling white.  That's the much easier/quicker/cheaper way to deal with wood paneling than tearing it down.  It does look better painted white, but not by that much.

Gosh, the '70s.  Those were terrible colors, lol.  I always picture avocado green, dark brown, and burnt orange.

Well, on Saturday night I did meet a couple of friends at a local restaurant (first time since the lockdown). But my mom thinks I need to self-quarantine for two weeks, and I have to admit I don't really blame her. I was scared to go to the restaurant, but I have been missing meeting my friends in person.

Last night my father hosted a Zoom party for some of his relatives, so I met some cousins for the first time as well as reunited with some other cousins. That was nice.

Now I'm trying to relearn some SEO concepts as well as learn new ones for the first time so I can return to writing for a consumer advocacy website that has decided to implement the SEO in the writing. I used to regularly write for them, but have been taking a hiatus from it.

    @short+sassy , don't forget about "harvest gold."  :/
