Same Tux from First Wedding?

Hi all, looking for some perspective here! I am getting married this fall (40/f never married) and my fiance has been married previously. He owns his own tux and would like to wear it for our wedding. The catch is that he also wore it for his first wedding. I am not wild about this idea but am not sure how to advise otherwise, without perhaps seeming like a total nut. Is this not a big deal? Should I just let him wear it? It just bugs me. Thoughts??

Honestly, it would bug me too. I'd ask him to rent a tux for the day.
  • If it bugs you, he should be concerned enough not to wear it. But a tux is not a very personal thing, at least not in the sense that a dress is. If it's a traditional black and white, it's almost a uniform. Still, I completely understand why you would not want him to wear anything "tainted" by association with his first wedding. I'd ask him to rent another one.
  • While I like a man in a tux, at the same time, I think all tuxes pretty much look the same.  Because of that, I wouldn't care in the least.

BUT, I am only saying that as my personal opinion.  I can understand why other people would have a different one.  If it bugs you, then it's important.  I don't think asking him to rent a tux is unreasonable.

  • Thanks everyone! I can appreciate that a tux doesn't carry the same meaning as a dress. I think at this point I will just cross my fingers that it doesn't fit, and take it from there :)

    That’s a good take.

I’d probably be irked about it, but I also think I’d try and let it go so I could use the money of a rental on something else.
  • Suggest a new shirt/tie combo for the tux...  It's a way to meet in the middle without adding unnecessary expense (he'll be able to wear for other events)...

Also, yea, it's one of those juju things that I'm with you, I wouldn't be a fan either...
