Wedding Woes

"Please properly sanitize your penis, real or fake."

Dear Prudence,

The other day, my husband and I hosted a socially distanced get-together in our backyard with a few friends. We took care to space chairs and tables 6 feet apart. I also disinfected the guest bathroom in case someone needed to go inside the house to use it. The next day, I went to the bathroom to disinfect everything again, when I noticed a strange object fastened to the light switch: a small 3D-printed penis, about the size of a game piece. This was obviously put there as a prank, and I’m mostly impressed one of our friends took the time to find a schematic, print it, and save it for just such an occasion. At the same time, I’m annoyed. It felt like a criticism of my attempts to keep the bathroom sanitized and our guests safe. I want to say something, but I’m not sure how to word it. “Thanks for coming over. Please ask before you stick little 3D-printed penises on the light switch and make sure they’re properly disinfected first” doesn’t sound quite right. Any advice on what to say?

Re: "Please properly sanitize your penis, real or fake."

  • Is it really criticism or someone who likes to play pranks?

When DH and I were in college we'd share printers so a friend could use one on the network and print out a paper if needed.   An IM would be exchanged and often DH or a friend would get the notice that the printer needed to be turned on.   In that time, someone would often try to insert the phrase, "I poop too much," somewhere into the document.

The point was to say to the friends, "Proofread your work."  Often it was caught.   One time DH turned in a paper and the phrase was circled by a professor in red pen.   Oops!

Point being - is it really a criticism of disinfecting the bathroom or just someone who enjoys pranking?

Eh this seems blown out of proportion IMO. How does LW know it wasn't sanitized before being put up? LW doesn't seem concerned about it so much that an object was there but rather a possible sanitation issue.

Irrespective of that I'd be Very surprised if someone did it some how as a criticism of LW's cleaning. I think someone is stretching a bit too much
  • This wouldn’t bother me, but how old are LW’s friends?

  • I...don’t get how this is a criticism? Just seems like a prank to me. LW either overreacts and takes things personally all the time (probably true), or there is more background to this story.

  • Just sounds like a prank to me. You're overthinking this.

  • I really don’t see the connection between a prank or is and her efforts to sanitize the bathroom.

LW needs to let this go, but also explain their logic because I’m all kinds of confused.

Could have been much, much worse. Could have been an actual dildo.

Nothing against dildos, I support the using of dildos, I also believe they should be kept private.

    If only for sanitary reasons!
