Tuesday!

Re: Tuesday!

  • @charlotte989875 totally makes sense to leave your options open. H had a week of paternity leave, plus he had 4 weeks of vacation and 10 weeks of PFL. He took a combo of paternity leave, vaca and PFL for the first 5 weeks I was out. I went back after 12 weeks and then he took the last 8 of his PFL. We had been toying with the idea of him just taking a couple PFL days a week instead of all 8 weeks at once, but then Covid happened and it made more sense to keep her home as long as possible. And considering we don't know what's going to happen in the fall with the pandemic, it might turn out to be a good thing if he has PFL left to take.
Yeah that’s definitely the other thing we’re worried about is if there is an uptick here in the fall. We’ve been pretty good in Buffalo but we have been seeing some increasing cases & hospitalizations due to parties, bars, etc so if we need to use more leave in the fall I want to make sure we have that still.

@charlotte989875 I'd still encourage him to look externally because you never know. I tihnk we've hired 6 new people during the pandemic which is actually more than usual for that type of time frame. Everyone has been virtually onboarded, etc so places are hiring. Might not be true for his industry but worth a look.
Thanks for this, that’s good to hear! I’d love for him to work with a career coach on how to sell his work/background but I’m not sure how that would go over right now. I think it could help him to have someone with experience help him market himself, especially in this time.
  • @VarunaTT Congrats to K! Also, have you looked into the online therapy thing? I've been curious about it for a little bit, but never got off my butt and researched it. I wonder if it could work as a temp solution if you decide you can't wait.

@short+sassy I'm continually amazed by how lax your employers are being about safety and distancing. What would they do if others get sick because of this? Just nothing? Or pretend it wasn't their fault?
  • I'm in the vacation industry and we're hiring.  My sister (who works in auto parts manufacturing) said they furloughed people and then ranked the furloughed people as 1, 2, and 3.  They only thought they were going to have to bring back the 1's and 2's, they've brought back everyone and need temps.

So I'd say that your H wouldn't be too foolish to dip his toe in the water to see what's out there, @charlotte989875.
  • My goodness are things busy right now.   Most of my day is spent telling people that they can't get what they want when they want it and no amount of money they offer to pay will get them a different answer.

Yes and yes.  Because it's already happened.  I can't necessarily say coworkers who have come down with COVID caught it from here at work.  As far as I know, there wasn't a "group" of people who were sick all at the same time.  But 10% of the people on my floor have been diagnosed positive at one time or another since mid-March.  And those are only the people I know about.  To be fair, most of the workplace cases I'm aware of happened right before or during the time most of us were WFH (late March through mid-May).

But they tell us that employee safety is their #1 concern, so it must be true//s.

  • They brought FI back into work today. I’m super bummed. This ups our risk considerably as his work is awful and doesn’t take the pandemic seriously. They already had someone test positive two weeks ago and they didn’t really do anything or even tell the staff. He only found out because of his position. They suck and his work could 100% be done from home. They just are losing their minds they can’t micromanage him from home.

  • Thank you guys for thinking of me, truly.  I haven't checked into the sliding scale b/c I make enough money I don't usually qualify.  I thought about online, but I do really like this therapist that I've seen before (I was asked in my assessment why I decided and it was because this old therapist told me, "You have tools to use to help, so you need to use them, that's the first step," and it's always stayed with me.  I think I'm good for now, with work taking the extra precautions, as long as they actually stick with it.  And K and I have come up with some plans to help my restlessness and irritability.

I don't want to know "who" at all, though i am concerned for any co-worker that would be sick and would want to help them.  I just want to know "we had a positive, here's what we're doing for that," rather than just hiding it.  I mean, it's going to be really obvious who it is pretty quickly anyway, we're all on one floor and close group.
  • Bribery for mask wearing!  I like it, lol.

I was just reading an online local article that the City of New Orleans and a charitable organization are teaming up to roam the city looking for people wearing masks.  2,000 raffle tickets will be given out to mask-wearers and one of them will win $10K.

  • Whoa - there are more states on the advisory list for CT than aren't.   31 states are on the quarantine list!

Sorry it’s rough times @cupcait927.  Hopefully when you get home you can discuss and relax over a good dinner tonight.
@VarunaTT So sorry you’re going through this and have such a long wait! And yay for K!  Some good news with all that’s going on at least
@short+sassy, good luck with the tenets. I saw this in the news today and thought of you

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/fox8.com/news/fur-real-cat-burglar-stealing-clothes-in-louisiana-neighborhood/amp/

basically any and all news coming out of LA will make me think of you.

our mayor (not really “our” I don’t live in Chicago) just added Kansas and Wisconsin to the quarantine list.  Good luck with that, Lightfoot!

SSDD for me.  Pretty exciting stuff that my amazon order was delivered today because I need the julienne sundried tomatoes both grocery stores were out of for my meal tonight.  Win.  Win.

  • @VarunaTT, congrats to K.

@VarunaTT and @short+sassy, I'm sorry to hear about your bad work situation.

@cupcait927, I'm sorry to hear that.

I'm working from my office but everyone wears masks and sanitizes, so I guess it's as safe as things will get unless there's another lockdown here (wouldn't surprise me).

Isn’t California experiencing rising infection rates and rolling back openings? Surprising that they’re bringing people back in the middle of that rather than keeping things as they are.

Our cases are outrageous right now. His CEO is such a micromanager that he can’t stand that people are out of the office. FI is trying to only go in three days a week instead of full time but that’s still a lot of exposure with coworkers who don’t wash their hands (vocally expressing that they won’t) and who think the pandemic is either a hoax or not serious.

Thanks, Pam!  Proud to be the WW Louisiana representative (errr...sometimes, lol).  Kitties who steal are always fun stories!  And Metairie, LA is next to NOLA.  It's one of the main suburbs.
