Re: TGIF

  • So I looked it up, apparently if something happens to him then Pence is not automatically on ballot BUT the likelihood is Republicans would because it's so close.

Haha .... no more rallys ;)

Idk if I mentioned but BabyKitten did really good at the dentist. Bonus is she only had 1 nap, and with her molars she's just really tired.

I have a bit of a headache but my allergies are being rough, so I'm assuming between my eye being sore and sinus' being likely rough, it's that.
Yeah it’s too late to change the ballots- voting has already begun. My ballot is sitting right next to me.  If he dies before the election but still wins, the electoral college chooses his replacement and would choose whoever the Republican Party says. Likely Pence but not necessarily.
Yeh I ended up looking into it since I wasn't sure.
Bolded was almost the exact wording I saw.

This whole deal is so weird
  • To say that everything about Trump is weird is an understatement. (That's an understatement right there.)

It's hard not to wish anyone Covid-19 or other bad fortune, but the Trumps are a major temptation (yet another understatement).

But I'm glad it's Friday for other reasons. I need a break this weekend. We're approaching the tax deadline for extended returns, so I went from having very little work to lots of work.
  • I've kind of hit a wall and I intend to take it very easy this weekend.  Work is somewhat overwhelming.  I think it'd be fine if I'd just fully transition into this training, b/c they keep putting more on me, but I still have about 40ish cases to control.  Today I was finally able to work on some of them and I am farther behind than I've ever been in my life.  I don't like it.  I also have had a damn headache for a week and a half that won't go away.  I was out Wednesday b/c of it and not much better Thursday.  There's also some BS happening with the managing paralegal trying so hard to throw me under the bus.  She's failing, miserably, but it's kind of exhausting too.  Trying to make myself drink water today.

Trump has gaslit the entire nation and I can't handle even trying to think about the what ifs regarding his diagnosis, so I'm just not.  I didn't watch the debate either, b/c fuck him.

All I really want is to get some Sodastream refills b/c they've been hard to get lately and I haven't had one for about 2-3 months now.
  • Waking up to tRump having COVID was like Christmas morning!  It won't amount to anything other than him being able to get out of the remaining debates.  It will also perpetuate the "it's not that bad" crowd who want to get herd immunity going in the US without a vaccine.  And Melania having COVID probably gives her more ammo to hate her husband!  LOL!

Not much this weekend, probably some small projects around the house.
  • I’m trying to brace myself for all of the people who have been claiming this is a hoax but who will inexplicably offering their thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.  And then turning around to deny it again when he comes back after loss of taste only to say it’s all over exaggerated. I don’t know if I mentioned it, but my dad had a stroke when he had COVID, so I’m pretty salty about all of this.

Lots going on today. I got my laser facial and then I’m getting a pedicure for the first time since February. I took today off since I wasn’t sure how the facial would go but my face seems okay. I also got to see BFF for a quick coffee earlier. Her grandfather passed away yesterday so I’m glad I was able to meet up with her if only for an hour. I’m ready for a margarita and the weekend.

  • Update: I don't get a fucking break this weekend because my boss sprung a demand that everyone work tomorrow just now.

I had plans too. I can carry out the plans but it means having to work late into the evening. Damn it.
  • So sorry @Jen4948. Hope you enjoy your plans even though you have to work.

So not to be nit picky but this is technically not true; the Republicans could nominate someone else prior to Election Day. That would likely invalidate those votes that have already been cast. It could get real messy, real fast because the party does have the power, up to Election Day to replace a candidate who dies. There is no precedent here but they could according to their bylaws appoint a new candidate even though voting has started. Basically it would be a huge mess.

But there's the loopholes per state.
None of the write-in-votes I have ever done have counted in my state. Because the fucking state decided to write n the rules that they wo't.
("... filing official for that elective office on or before 4 p.m. on the second Friday immediately before the election.")
So, if this sort of BS was delayed long enough, nobody could vote for a non-pre-registered-Pence. It's such a PITA and intentionally written to disenfranschise voters.

They can cause a mess but they don’t have the power to invalidate already cast ballots.

Since most states ballots have been certified in those states ballots can’t be changed. If any states ballots haven’t been certified (although I’m sure most deadlines have passed) then the ballots can be changed to whoever they’d appoint.

In states where electors aren’t bound to vote for the candidate who wins the most votes the electors can vote for whomever they want (basically ignoring the votes cast) and could vote for a replacement candidate even if the ballots still had a deceased candidate listed.

I was flippant in saying they’d be invalidated because yes the ballots wouldn’t change but the party could still name a replacement candidate and ask electors to vote for that candidate instead of a deceased candidate. So the ballots wouldn’t be changed but he wouldn’t remain the Republican candidate.

    ETA: words are hard.

Thanks. As things turned out, I had to go home and work remotely because I wasn't feeling well. But I was able to go through with my other plans.

This is what happened in MO with the Blunt/Carnahan Senate race.  Carnahan died in a plane crash very close to the election date (I was actually up, saw the CNN banner state it, then couldn't find any info on it.  I called a friend, she had seen the same thing, and we were both panicked all night).  Basically, the party decided X would serve in his place, so the understanding was that you still voted for Carnahan, but X would be serving.  X was then validated by...whatever it is we had to go through, I can't remember now and X was allowed to be seated in the Senate.

TBH, that election was acrimonious enough, no ones vote would've changed to Blunt instead of X anyway.  I think the same would hold true with this national election.  I remember getting into a bad argument with someone who was barely a friend anymore at the time b/c of her politics b/c former friend didn't want X to be seated and said out loud she hoped X didn't get validated.
