Asking my new friend to be a bridesmaid

Hello everyone! I'm new to the community, but I'm reaching out because I'm in a bind.
I have just recently got engaged and my fiancé and I are planning to get married in May of 2021. I am currently a graduate student pursuing my Doctorate in Physical Therapy, where I have met my newest friend who feels like my long lost soulmate. After knowing each other for only a few months, we have became so close and do just about everything together. I would love to include her in my wedding, but am scared that our friendship may be too new. Several people have told me that it's my wedding and I should do what I want, but I'm just a little worried it might freak her out. I really think she would be more than happy and quite honored, but I wanted to get the opinion of others.
Also, my fiancé is only having two groomsmen, so I am wanting to stick with two bridesmaids. My sister is already my MOH, so my new friend would be the only other BM. I am very excited about potentially asking her!
I'm hoping that putting myself out there to everyone will bring some encouragement! So thank you for responding if you choose to.

Congrats on your engagement!  Sides don’t have to be even, so don’t worry about having two BM just to match your FI.

I believe those wedding countdown checklists usually recommend asking your BP 6-9 months out, so you’re technically within the correct timeframe as far as asking your friend.  If you’d like to wait a few more months though, that’d be fine too.  Just my own experience but my engagement was under 6 months, and my MOHs/BM had no trouble finding dresses (they all wore whatever they wanted) in the weeks leading up to my wedding.

  • I'm going to repeat @ei34.  "Even" sides don't matter.  Nothing looks weird or matters for logistics if the two people getting married have more attendants than the other person.

Congrats on your engagement and the "somewhat" new strong friendship!  I don't think it's too soon or would seem odd in the friendship for you to ask her.  Though it wouldn't hurt to wait up to a couple months if you want to.  From what you have described, it sounds like you all have a real bond.  Especially considering you all spend a lot of time together, I don't think she would even be surprised if you ask her to be in your WP.
