Wedding Woes

Wednesday

I have a few meetings today and an eye appointment this afternoon.  Other than that, SSDD. I have 2.5 more weeks of working before I'm off for 2.5 weeks and i can't wait.

What's up with everyone today?

Re: Wednesday

  • I haven't been on for a few days, the last few days have been weirdly busy with work. Have some year end stuff to finish up and then should be pretty quiet. I need to buckle down and just do it instead of pushing it to another day.

Thanksgiving was nice and my parents took baby B with them for 2 nights so that was a nice break although I basically did stuff around the house all day so not super relaxing but that's OK. Felt weird not to do any black Friday shopping since I was kid free but I couldn't think of anything I wanted anyway

  • My coworker's bday is tomorrow and she's off, so we're surprising her with cake :) I'm very excited because the bakery below us had renos so we're happy they reopened.

SupperWorks is delivered today, so we're making room in the freezer for that. I have one meal I'm planning this week, so at least only 3 go in the freezer.

I have a general question but I feel @VarunaTT may be able to answer best.
I can give more context if necessary. If a female is attracted to a trans-male, is the female still considered straight or would it be something else {like pansexual} ?

Forget if I shared but H got into the synchronized Christmas lights game this year. Our house is lighting up like Vegas 6 hours a night. He submitted the house to a local list of Christmas displays to get the word out. I encouraged him to do it so that more people can see it then just our neighbors.
Oh I love these! What did he sync it to?

He has like 8 songs that rotate and you listen with your car radio.
  • That sounds fun about the lights @kvruns..sorry about the work craziness, especially if you’re still not sleeping well!
Yay for your upcoming vacation @Casadena

Very SSDD here.  FWP but my phone keeps changing some words when I’m typing.  For keeps becoming fir, so is becoming do.  Nothing even worth mentioning but how do I fix it 😝
  • I have a fairly busy day at work, but I'm more on top of things than I had expected so that is a relief.

Still waiting, waiting, waiting on my appraisals.  I'm also bracing myself for posting my rental ad tonight, lol.  We had a huge response the last time we had vacancies in mid/late summer, though that was in a totally different part of town, so I'm hoping we do again!

I think there is a major shortage of Section 8 housing right now, which could really work in my favor because I do accept voucher holders in that program.  Overall, I really like the program and would prefer a tenant on it for this particular unit.  That was the impression potential S8 tenants gave me during our last vacancies.  But, even more than that, the Housing Authority of New Orleans (HANO) manages the S8 program here and they were giving $500 bonuses to any landlords that had a signed lease by Dec. 1st.  Unfortunately, I'll miss that bonus program.  But I have NEVER seen that done before!

I'm thinking about doing something a little out of the ordinary for this one.  In NOLA, it's common for the rental owner to provide the fridge and oven, though sometimes renters have their own.  The oven is in bad shape and needs to be replaced.  If I can't find a used one easily, I'm thinking about giving the future tenant a choice.  I can provide them with an oven like I usually do.  Or, they can provide and be responsible for their own oven and pay a $650 security deposit instead of a $900 one.  I assume most people would want the first choice and that's fine.  But I prefer the second choice, so I figure it doesn't hurt to at least offer it, lol.

excuse me while I go drive by your house slowly like a creep lol!
  • @ei34 that happens to me all the time and it drives me crazy. It always changed "and" to "snd" and I've given up on it.
  • Love the light thing @kvruns! Sounds cool. M and I are doing a light show on Friday at an arboretum, and it was $50/car.  I asked him if he would mind if we just drove around and looked at people’s house lights instead because... well, that’s what? $4 in gas, depending where  we go? But it’s his birthday so I better make it special. I’m sure we’ll do the drive by house thing one night too!

also, I’m getting super into expedition X, anyone else watch it? I love Josh, Jess & Phil and I want to hang with them.

  • It's Wednesday already...this week is moving along.

Sun's out, guns out.  LOL  It's freezing here today, but the sunshine, a sweater, and cozy boots helps it not feel so frigid.

I need to get on with the rest of my Christmas shopping. My amazon cart is full and I just need to push the damn button.  I also need to look at my stock of present wrapping stuff.

    SSDD otherwise.

City Park has an awesome Christmas event called Celebration in the Oaks.  There are a lot of huge, 200+ year old live oaks in this park.  They adorn those trees along with the rest of the foliage with a million+ lights.  It's a 2-mile drive of gorgeous, lighted goodness.  I just double-checked that they are still doing it this year and they are.  Yeah!

The son of the guy who founded Popeyes chicken used to do an enormous light display in front of his house in Metairie (suburb of NOLA).  With animated scenes and the whole 9 yards.  There would be a constant line of cars through his residential neighborhood throughout Dec.  His neighbors HATED it, lol.  He did it for many years, but then his neighbors were finally able to get a court order to make him stop (something like that).

  • @CharmedPam We're hoping to do either this magic of lights drive or a street that everyone in the city knows because they do crazy things lol
  • Grab a cup of coffee or hot cocoa and put some holiday music on, and drive around!  Our light thing is a drive by too!

  • @CharmedPam if we do the street, I'll be bringing drinks.
If it's the pay version, I'll have BK on my lap {you drive like 5km max} so she can see.
    Google Image
    "Wesley Clover Magic of Lights" {paid drive thru lights}

    or "Taffy Lane, Ottawa" {this is where people live}

Next year - pending pandemic - I'm gonna see if M wants to do this halloween light thing {Pumpkinferno} because that way BK will be walking around. I wish they had a Christmas one but it's too cold lmao
  • Had a good PT session today but now my leg is killing me! I think I need to take some advil or something and ice my leg. The PT had me doing several things on the bosu and OMG! I had no idea I was using all those muscles.

I got all the envelopes addressed for Christmas cards but now need to stuff, stamp and seal them. I'm procrastinating. I think I'll watch Big Sky from last night. I can't possibly stay up late enough to watch it so I always watch it on demand. I'm kind of getting into it.
I've seen super generic commercials for Big Sky, but finally saw one yesterday that actually gave an indication of what the show was even about.  Hardly the first time I have failed to understand the logic of marketing companies that don't even tell you what a "product/service" is, lol.  Suspense/crime/mystery is my cup of tea, so now I'm curious to watch it.

Sounds like your PT sessions have been going well!  I know it's tough, but glad you are on your way back to 100%.

  • Can anyone recommend a good place to get printed photo Christmas cards? We’ve never done them before!

Work is good, but busy. I got a little more sleep last night and it makes such a difference!

    Shutterfly or Vista Print
    I've used both
  • I feel kinda bad for one of the engineers I primarily support.  We have three important work packages that he wanted to get out today, but none of them will be.  Ugh.  I'm just glad it isn't because of me, lol.  I've done everything I can, but they just hired a bunch of new engineers for this project and mistakes were made.  So now I am waiting for a few items to be double checked before I can place the orders.

It's a weird limbo because I know I am going to be slammed and inundated again.  But, for right now, I'm just waiting and don't really have anything to do, lol.

I've used Shutterfly usually when they have a 50% off coupon. DD uses minted. The cards on minted are a little more custom looking but then I'm not up for paying for the custom look (I think you can get it on Shutterfly too). I just do basic stuff and address them myself. I'm pretty sure both services have an addressing option.

Thanks! I’m definitely fine with addressing them myself; I want to write notes on the backs anyway so I think at that point I can hand write the addresses.

Thanks! Any major differences between the two?

I do this too.  I rarely have a problem with Shutterfly.  I need to finish my photo book from 2019.  I decided to combine it with 2020 though because we didn't take a lot of pictures in 2019, and I doubt we did with 2020 ...

  • Work has been busy - I'll have to catch up with yesterday's chat!  All these Christmas light displays sound amazing!  Someone within walking distance of me goes all out, and people drive by their house every holiday season.  I'll probably walk over there this weekend and see the lights.  I do love looking at them this time of year.  It makes walking the dog at night less sketchy.  I mean, I'm walking a Rottweiler so I'm not that scared, but when it gets dark, my brain starts thinking about all those Unsolved Mysteries and scary stories I like to watch.

Depends on what you want and what deals they have.
One year I did shutterfly because what they had appealed. Last year I did vista print because price.

This year I'll probably do Shutterfly because the layouts are just *chefs kiss*
  • Definitely shop around for deals.   We found a Groupon for Staples cards that are double printed and I think we spent $40 for 100 including envelopes with our return address pre-printed.

I love a lot of the others (Shutterfly and Tiny Prints are now linked) but since we send 100 cards I can't stomach the cost of over $1 / card.
  • @Jen4948 I sent you a PM with a link
  • Shutterfly is having a 50% off sale now, @charlotte989875. I just got the email.
