Thursday!

Re: Thursday!

  • According to this, I'm basically last. Actually last, because there are around 300M people in the US, and I have a pretty good notion that at least 10% (30M) won't get the vaccine either because of religious/health restrictions, or because they're anti-vaxxers.

    So I'm still expecting to WFH until June.

    Based on your risk profile, we believe you’re in line behind 268.7 million people across the United States.

    When it comes to Georgia, we think you’re behind 8.6 million others who are at higher risk in your state.

    And in Fulton County, you’re behind 856,700 others.

    I'm picturing the whole US in one room, but most people have left because their vaccines are done.  You are one of the last to leave and the only people left are anti-vaxxers.  And conspiracy theorists.  Who either think COVID is fake.  Or that COVID and it's subsequent vaccine...which is actually poison...were both created by aliens to decimate the human race.
    So basically, I'm going to get measles or my head is going to explode.
  • My 135.7 millionth place was thanks to being a teacher.  When I went back and selected “none of these” I got 288.7 million, yikes.

    @levioosa you should be first in line!!

    @sho@"short+sassy"  lol good points!

    I do think the survey missed an important component, do you work remotely or not.  One of my cousins is a data analyst for a healthcare company.  She’s been working remotely since March and isn’t going back to the office until mid-2021 at the earliest.  She selected “healthcare employee” bc technically, she is, and got a number even lower than my mom (61 and with a pre-existing condition).

    I also thought that was a big consideration, not asked about!  Plus, not all "essential workers" are exposed to the public.  I'd even hazard to say that most aren't.  There is a wide swath of industries/jobs that are considered "essential".

    For example, I am an "essential worker", but not a public-facing one.  And, to me, that is also a big difference.  I work for an engineering firm that's in vital industries like utilities, oil and gas, and mining metals.  So we have the designation of being "essential".  As our company so often liked to remind us during the darkest days of the pandemic that they could require us to come back to the office.  And then did, pretty early on (mid-May).

    I have a neighbor who is currently working in Los Angeles because she is a production assistant on tv shows and movies.  Previously, this industry was not considered "essential".  But that designation changed and now it is.  It cannot help but be close quarters, but personnel and actors are tested with the rapid 48 hour test ALL.THE.TIME.  Like 2x or 3x week, depending on the job/schedule.
