Re: Monday, Monday

  • @kvruns, I'm not sure if the company still pays the majority of the coverage (like they do for employees) or if it is more like COBRA.

@banana468, the company only has roughly 400 people with half in Houston and half in NOLA.  So everything is from a corporate level, lol.  Depending on how many people leave, I'd think there is going to be a lot of knowledge that is lost.  Because it isn't just losing employees to retirement in a larger than average number.  It's losing employees who literally have at least 20+ years experience working in their jobs, with this company specifically.

With that said, it's also not unusual for them to have long-tern contractors working here.  I would think some of the potentially retiring people would be offered that opportunity, like the DB Admin I mentioned.  But then, making more presumptions, if a retiring employee wanted to come back as an IC, I assume they'd demand more money.  And should.  The company must know that.  But knowing and ponying up the money needed to potentially keep crucial people are two entirely different things, lol.  Plus, for most of us, our hours are billed back to a client and it's a good educated guess that those bill rates won't support a big jump in pay.
That's what DH sees at his employer.  They are larger but when an employee with 20-30 years experience leaves there's a lot of knowledge that goes with them.
