Need help choosing a reception site

We had our heart set on a saturday night receptionfor 125 in May 2012 but the venue we fell in love with offered us really great discounted rate if we choose to get married on Sept 2 which is the sunday before labor day. Technically most guests will probably not have to work the next day but Im not sure about a Sunday. We also found another location that is 25 dollar less per person that's not as nice but that can accomodate a saturday May 2012 date. Just a few other things to consider: Venue #2 - we would need to bring in top shelf liquor and pay $8 per chair extra to change the chairs ( they hv really old ones that we can pay to change to better ones). Is the $25 per person savings at a less fabulous place worth a Saturday reception day?

I'd say to go for the Sunday before Labor Day. it's a National holiday.  Will some people be annoyed because they have standing Labor Day plans?  Probably, but for one year, people will get over it.

If you go for a venue you don't love that you can afford, you'll end up regretting it.

I got married on a Sunday and it wasn't a big deal at all. Plus, it was the day before Columbus Day, not a holiday when most people have off, and no one seemed concerned. I don't see why you'd let go of a great venue that's giving you a deal and has what you want just to save a couple bucks, unless you're set on the May date?

However, it comes down to what's more important to you...

i'm getting married the sunday before columbus day, at first we were alil iffy about it cause it was a sun. but we got a great deal and figured everyone would have off that mon and the people who dont have plenty of time to ask for the day off if they want.  we both feel in love with the venue and in the long run decided to go with it.   turns out sundays of 3 day weekends are becoming pretty popular to get married.

Thanks so much for the responses. We decided to go with the place we loved on the holiday weekend next year :) We are both very excited and we will give all guests plenty of notice. Thanks again!

Me personally I always hated going to Sunday weddings.  I would leave early so I didn't have to take the next day off of work.  I do agree that you do have to love the place because years down the road you don't want to look back hating your place.

i'm getting married labor day weekend of this year and it was a big thing before we decided - like said above - people will get over it. If they really want to be at your wedding, they will be at your wedding regardles on what day it is.
Good for you for going with the place that you love!
