Wonderful Wednesday

edited February 2021 in Wedding Woes
My Mom is registered for the vaccine, I’m now registered, and H is registering! My sister got hers and her H is registered! It feels like there is finally a light at the end of this.

Re: Wonderful Wednesday

  • Good morning! I'm bummed I missed out on a nice sunny day yesterday bc I half a calf strain that i thought was better but then started really hurting yesterday. Really needed a walk outside so that sucked. Fingers crossed it's better today.

Made a realization about a work project that has me on edge. I had to update some documentation and didn't think anything of it but now that it is 95% done it hit me today that this client probably should not be allowed to be doing what they are doing and still be compliant with the ACA. Ugh. Now I have to figure it out and then I dread if it gets to having to tell the client JK bc if i had to pick my top 5 list of clients I wouldn't want to go down this road with, this is one. Granted this isn't my fault, they've been doing this forever but I wish I would have thought to hit pause last summer when they first started asking a few questions.
  • @mrsconn23 I'm so sorry for your loss.
  • sorry for your loss @mrsconn23  and I hope your DH can get things figured out with what he's dealing with too
  • @charlotte989875, yay vaccines!  I've also been reading the Johnson and Johnson one-dose vaccine is expected to be approved by the FDA on Friday.

Unfortunately, once we have enough doses, I'm concerned we won't be able to establish herd immunity because not enough of the population will choose to be vaccinated.  I hear a lot of concerns about how "fast" it came out, so we don't know about long-term side effects.  I personally don't have those concerns, but others do.

Not much going on for me.  I have a few things to get done at work, but not much.  I have a few personal things to get done today also.  For example, I'm paying my property taxes for two of my properties, so that's a big chunk of money gone.  I hate this time of year, lol.  Though at least the weather is finally great.  Highs in the low/mid-70s for the next few days!

What about the long term (and even short term) side effects we’re hearing about with the virus?
Some people have odd inherent distrusts with vaccines.  DH's aunt isn't getting it and she's convinced her brother (FIL's older brother) not to get it.  That most likely means that her H isn't getting it nor is the 96 yo matriarch.   The aunt has given the brother a long list of why the vaccine can't be trusted and I'm sure she said all the things about her distrust of pharmaceutical companies as she poured out the daily prescription medications that she was about to dispense to her mother, husband and herself.

    Right? On both points?

I mean, I know this country has a an ugly history with experimenting medically on POC and also, we've always heard about how long it should take for a vaccine to be produced.  Furthermore, the last admin bungled the whole kit and kaboodle with regard to all COVID messaging. But I'm much more scared of getting COVID and if fucking me up in the long term because my immune system has a severe response.

The Biden admin needs to get on getting accurate, easy to understand information out faster.  They don't need congress to pass anything to produce PSAs regarding the vaccines and why it's important to get one.  I'm sure there some ways they can use targeted information and diverse experts for people who are vulnerable, but skeptical.
  • Yeah there was some good news on production this morning, and how they’re (both mederma and pfzier) approved to produce more in the upcoming months.

One year ago today, my divorce was finaled.  Who would have thought 2.5 weeks later we’d all be facing a lockdown? ExH can go f*#^ himself.  I gave him a chance at a good life and he chose to live the shitty one he’s got now. I’m in a better place and it’s all behind me now.  To celebrate and do something nice for myself, I’m making my fave meal (pierogies and polish sausage) and hopefully spending it with my man.  Probably watching “The foods that built America” together. If you haven’t seen or heard about it, watch it now!  History channel.  It tells us why and how some very common foods were made/invented and the story behind them. Facinating.

Edit; because I can’t remember if we can swear or not? I think yes?

I watched this whole documentary series and concur with Pam.  It is great and really interesting.

Two of my fave facts/stories from it:

--Colonel Sanders never owned a KFC.  His real claim to fame is his momma's fried chicken recipe and he created a pressure cooker that can be used with oil.  At the time, pressure cookers were a French appliance that were largely unknown in the US.  But they could only be used with water, not oil.  Sanders "hardened" one up and replaced parts with stronger metals, so it could be used with oil.  At one point, he owned a restaurant that went belly up when a new highway was built that no longer went past it.

He then went on the road to sell his recipe and cooking technique to other restaurants.  He became popular enough that an investment group contacted him to buy his patents, for a new fast food fried chicken franchise system, they wanted to create.  Part of the contract was Col. Sanders would be the "face" of the brand and he was paid an annual salary for that.  But he wasn't the one who started KFC.

--At the age of 27 and in 1914, Marjorie Post became one of the first female heads of a major corporation (Postum Cereal Company), when her father passed away.  From a small child, he had always encouraged her to learn about the business and groomed her to take it over.  At the time, the company only made cereal.  But under her leadership and through acquisitions, she grew the company exponentially larger and changed the company name to General Foods in 1929.

so true! My H is team "it came out too fast I won't get it" but there's no convincing him on anything so I don't even bother.

But I'm sitting here with a weird ass possible long hauler/long-term side affect of covid, even though I never knowingly had it, which makes me wonder if I'm going to have this rash pop up randomly for however long. Luckily not a big issue/side effect just annoying but the unknown is so interesting.

    She also built Mar-A-Lago.

  • Vaccines save lives 🙌🏻
Congrats @charlotte989875 on all the good vaccine news. Congrats @CharmedPam on the anniversary.  I’m so sorry for your loss @mrsconn23

Still in stress mode although at least were chipping closer to Friday.  It’s in the 40s here too which is definitely a mood lifter.

I haven’t gotten to the fast food stories yet but I LOVE the Post story.  I knew nothing of her before this, but go girl power.  Lol.  A businesswoman way ahead of her time.
I’m not to fond of what her Dad did to get all his fame and fortune, because I’m team Kellog too, but every industry has it’s competitor I guess (he down right stole it though!)?

@banana468, I read up on it and that was pretty much what I found about the process.  It's just previous messaging has been that it takes years for vaccines and drugs to come to market because trials and all the time those take.  Furthermore on one side, you have the cohort of anti-science and people who question experts for sport that's very loud and was given a lot of elevation during Trump's admin and on the other, the narrative was that Trump surrounded himself with 'yes' people and put people in positions where they had no background or inappropriate experience.  And Trump had no issue taking 'credit' for the vaccines, which fueled even more skepticism from people who just hated him.

Again, I feel each day there's not some national campaign with easy to understand info and doesn't bounce you to a website (that may or may not work), is a day of lost ground in getting needles in arms.

One of the reasons I have trust in the vaccine is, while this vaccine might be new, vaccines that work in an almost identical manner are not.  The world has been making vaccines for viruses, for decades.  This isn't a completely brand new medication that has never existed before.  Heck, the flu shot is different every year because we "tweak" it to try and anticipate the strains for the upcoming season.

Though, one of the people I know who thinks it's too fast has also always refused to get a flu shot.  I have always found her a little ironic, even before COVID.  She is a major germaphobe, but won't get a flu shot.  Her perspective is she thinks higher risk people should get the vaccine and encouraged her ILs to get it (they're both over 65).  But, for herself personally, she'd rather take chances on catching COVID and being okay, then take the vaccine and potentially have long term side effects that haven't been discovered yet.

I pointed out to her that people who are young and perfectly healthy have also died or had long term side effects from COVID.  I'll mention a few facts like I've included in this post, to plant seeds and give another perspective.  But I'm also not going to browbeat someone over it.  @kvruns, I certainly hope your rash gets better and you don't have reoccurences of it or develop any other long term effects!

  • In addition to what Banana said, I've also heard that funding had a lot to do with speeding the vaccine approval process.

Normally a new drug/vaccine has to go through long processes to get funding for each phase of testing and trials. Which usually means that a the process is stalled for months at a time waiting for administrative red tape before the next step. With covid vaccines, there was basically a blank check, so researchers could move forward without having to show that developing the drug would eventually be profitable.

After watching that documentary series, I looked her up on Wiki.  Wow!  I told my H that when some of your jewelry or the stones in your jewelry already have "names", that is wealth in the stratosphere, lol.

@mrsconn23, I'd like to think she'd be horrified that Trump owns the beautiful estate she built.

I have to find a new doctor. Mine told me yesterday that covid vaccines are "experimental" and it's "inadvisable" for anyone under about 70 to get vaccinated because of the effects on pregnant women (even though I can't get pregnant).  :s
In addition to getting a new one, can you also report your physician to a local board?

    SIB: Yes, report them immediately.
