Re: Friday!

  • I just learned that you don't have to get a pcr test before flying within the US?!! Do they even want to pretend to want to stop this thing?
Masks never stopped being a thing here, and won't as long as covid is happening and the city allows tourist.
    STIB

I'm not sure that is correct. I just had a friend return home from France, and she had to have a test done prior to returning. She didn't have to have a test done prior to going to France though (that might have changed now because she was in France for a month).

Yes, of course you have to have one internationally. But to travel WITHIN the US, nothing.

Are other countries requiring people to test if they are traveling within their own country? I know Italy was for a while but haven't heard that recently or that other countries were doing so.

My "state" does upon return from other "states" within the country.

Eta: pretty sure Germany does too. But even if they weren't requiring it in the states, I was shocked that the airlines weren't requiring it. I thought it was just a prerequisite for all air travel these days.

  • Aaaaand I'm back to having to wear a fucking mask in my building again. They just sent out an email. "For now" we don't have to wear masks at the outdoor amenities. But basically any time I step out of my apartment door, I have to have a mask on, including the gym of course.
New Orleans reinstated the mask mandate Fri. afternoon.  I saw in one article there are a number of cities that already have or it's scheduled to be happening this week, including some of the largest, ie  D.C., NYC, L.A., and Atlanta.

Atlanta and Savannah both implemented mask mandates last week. Governor dip shit is already threatening to prevent them from going into effect.

    Fucking hell.

That's infuriating.  The situation is bad enough without public fighting between governors and mayors, smh.

Overall, I think Louisiana's governor has done a good job handling the COVID crisis.  But I am annoyed with him today.  This state currently has more COVID cases, per capita, than anywhere else.  He has a press conference later today to talk about the delta variant, but it's already been said that he will NOT be re-imposing a statewide mask mandate.

But he's at least always had a publicly stated policy that he leaves it to the discretion of local leaders, if they choose to have stricter rules than what the state is doing.

Oh!  I forgot to mention this.  NOLA is also now requiring that all city workers and contractors be vaccinated.

  • That's why I'm so infuriated at the Indiana legislators. They took away the executive power from the governor to implement emergency health policy. Our governor is republican but was doing an ok job ( I think he rolled back the mandate too early). The legislators didn't like that he kept the mask mandate and other restrictions in place until he did (May I think). He always said local governments could be stricter. Our mayor was stricter - thankfully. Anyway, so now Indiana can never have a statewide mandate unless the legislators pass it which of course hell would freeze over first!

For once, I'm glad the media was mistaken and led me astray, lol.

Louisiana's governor DID implement a statewide mask mandate earlier today.  It will go into effect on Wednesday.

I think the full restrictions weren't lifted until June or July because they didn't start having concerts until last month and the Colts were the last team in the NFL to announce full capacity.

That was because the mayor had stricter restrictions than the state. The governor released restrictions earlier because the counties just north and east of us were at 100% before June or July. Anyway the legislature sucks!
  • I’m seeing more and more employers around here moving to either a/ you get vaccinated or b/ you get a covid test weekly. Obviously weekly testing isn’t perfect but it’s super annoying and I love that for unvaccinated people.

I am way past being "fair" to people that choose to be unvaccinated.  It is time to be ruthless because millions of lives hang in the balance, worldwide.  So if the consequence is people get fired/have to test weekly or can't go to XZY college or can't get into a concert/game unless they get vaccinated, then that is just too damn bad.  Exceptions for people who medically cannot receive the vaccine.

There are two music venues in my town that require people show proof of vaccine, in order to gain admittance.
