Wedding Woes

Wednesday

Hump day!

I renamed my apartment (I have always had nicknames for where I lived for internet reasons).  For some reason, my creative juices weren't flowing and I put it out to FB.  All of their suggestions inspired me, so if you ever visit me, welcome to Stardust Lagoon.  Combines my love of Bowie and mermaids, as well as sounding slightly like a sleazy '60s Vegas nightclub, so I love it.

I took my tattoo covering off last night.  It was just too damn hot.  Only a day early, so just one little spot of scabbing left.

Also, IRL Prudie:  I hooked up with someone that I've known for about 5 years.  Turns out we were both always crushing on each other, neither one of us were single, now we are, so fun.  Had a very clear conversation about boundaries, i.e. neither wants a relationship, how/when visits would happen (live in different cities, even better for me), and communication frequency/channels.  Totally fine.  He keeps reaching out...nearly every day, which is WAY more often than either of us committed to.  I'm over here like...don't get attached, sir.  We laid down the rules and I like the rules.  So now, I just leave the texts for a few hours to keep my end of the deal.  We'll see how long this goes.

((hugs)) @banana468.  I'm sorry for your loss.  Your anger is totally justified.  I hope DH is negative for Covid.

We're going to Lindsay Stirling tonight..   It's going to be hot af.   DH and I both slept like garbage last night.  Poor DH is just so friggin' stressed out.

Last night DefConn was late coming home from his friend's house by more than a couple minutes (I started stressing at 10 min past time).  We drove around trying to find him.  We always tell him to leave his bike outside the friend's house he's at so we know he's there and of course, his bike isn't at the friend's house where he was supposed to be.  We circled around and came back to his friend's house, DH goes to knock on the door.  The parents don't even come out, they just sent their kid out and it turned out DefConn was there.  This is not the first time we've felt blown off by them.  I find it super annoying and rude.  I hate telling DefConn he can't play with people, especially because these kids are OK, but I am encouraging him to play at our house with them since their parents just can't be bothered.

Also, I stressed myself out so bad imagining all the horrible scenarios (catastrophic anxiety FTW!).  When I saw DefConn, I started crying and that was probably better than any punishment because he felt so bad. We talked to him and since this was a first offense, he had to do extra chores and knows next time that he'll be grounded to our property.

New hairs tomorrow.  I can't wait.  I've had to reschedule twice.  Also, I think my stylist had a flooding caused by a pipe burst or some sort of other home catastrophe, so I want to ask her about it and see how things are going.

I wish I was more excited that it's Weds, but I have to work on Saturday.  DH probably has to work Saturday too.  Womp, womp.
  • @CharmedPam This is going to make me sound slutty as all get out, but I can't really say we're "friends".  More like acquaintances.  He's another drag performer I knew and is hella good looking.  I've been at quite a few of his shows/pageants b/c of K and we've talked in person at those shows (both in my city and out of town for me), but never anything outside of that.  I know more about him now than I knew 2 weeks ago.

  • @VarunaTT same question as above, is it more like a FWB deal? {sounds like it to me}

@banana468 hugs and fx for your H

@mrsconn23 my mum's friend loves Lindsay Stirling and would be very jealous you're seeing her lol

I was off yesterday. Did I mention on Monday that I tweaked my shoulder/neck muscles? I could barely move my head on Sunday :( Anyways, it progressively didn't get better. Monday it hurt, and I borrowed some A535 and it helped but then woke up Tuesday with throbbing pain in the back of my head :\ Anyways it's a bit better and just excessive A535 lol

Oh! Fun story about A535 lol
So I was texting my mum and asking if I could swing by and get it from her. She didn't see the A so thought I was asking to borrow $535 lol
Took me awhile, but figured out the misunderstanding lmao

Slowly getting everything prepped for BK going to preschool.
I'll upload a photo later - last year vs this year and a cute one from over the weekend. She looks so grown :\ mixed feelings.

Not slutty at all, you met, you liked each other, you had sex.  Totally cool!!  Enjoy :)
  • Baby N was doing really well sleeping like 10-4 for about a week and now has been getting up another time in the night.  I'm dragging.  I get up with him on weeknights while on maternity leave and H does Fri/Sat - when I go back to work we'll alternate.

I recently discovered my local "buy nothing" facebook group and it's amazing and i've gotten quite a few good things for G (toys, etc) and given away SO MUCH.  It's my goal to post at least one thing every day this week.

H is in talks with a couple companies for jobs and it seems to be going well.  He's been super frustrated with his job the last year (he moved from an "office" role to a producer/sales role in the same industry a few years ago).  H wants to go back to the "office" side.  Luckily for him, most of the companies he'd work for are looking right now and salaries are much higher than he'd be making if he had stayed there to begin with.  Hoping to hear concrete news soon! @mrsconn23 good luck to your H as well!

I never heard back from the company I was interviewing with but i was pretty up front about the baby and maternity leave so I'm not super surprised.  Still interested in looking in the next year though.

Loving the rainy weather lately.  We need it and it just feels cozy every once in a while.
  • Enjoy @VarunaTT!!

I’d be furious @banana468 and I think you’re justified feeling that way. Have we not learned to just stay the eff home (and employers effing let your people work from home?!) if they’re having any symptoms. FFS.

I would have done the same thing @mrsconn23; driving around, thinking something terrible happened. I assumed DefConn isn’t old enough for a phone yet?

I will say the coworker did not have symptoms at the time he exposed DH.  He was with the niece all weekend and she tested positive Mon.  As soon as he got word he left.

DH is generally masked at work unless he's eating/drinking.  The coworker is the same but they did have tea.   The coworker is now experiencing mild symptoms and is WFH.

But a lot of this could have been avoided if
    1) DH's ahole of a director implemented a 50% policy so you did not have cube mates in the work place at the same time and for the other 50% the workers worked remotely as they had in the prior year.

    2) People got vaccinated!

And well, the coworker should have stayed home until there were test results for the kiddo.

I can’t believe they have them sharing cubes, that’s just ludicrous.

We're having serious discussions about it.  If DH gets a new job and more $$ or a decent pay bump to stay (which is less likely or not really desired), then we're probably going to get him a line (iPhone so I can track him).  A couple of the jobs he's interviewed for would start him on 2nd shift, so that will push me to definitely be more invested in getting him a phone.  He's 10.5, so I have my concerns about age/maturity.

Also, he's gotta learn time management.  He wears a watch and we make it clear what time he has to be home.  He's also only allowed to go to the friend's house he says he's going to and if he's going to move around, he has to come tell us.

If that blows your mind let me tell you about FI’s company. They have them sharing rooms AND BEDS on work trips. I literally cannot, for so many reasons.

Yes.  Both DH and the coworker are vaccinated and with different vaccines.  DH received J&J which is showing promise against Delta but we'll see what his rapid results today are and then his Thursday results on Fri.

DH's company has had cube sharing for decades.

Seriously the delta is no joke. The breakthrough cases are terrifying.

I *almost* get cube sharing in the last, but now? No way.

Agreed.  This is a piss poor decision made by a director in upper management who has absolutely no grasp of how his professional engineers actually do their jobs.  His thought process is stuck in work environments of the 1980s and it's going to cost him his employees.

COVID aside, can no one see the logistical and HR nightmares of this set up at his job? It’s been going on forever and I’m just waiting for the day they get hit with a huge lawsuit. FI always ends up paying for his own room which is messed up too.
I shudder at the thought of sharing a room with a co-worker...much less a BED.  WTF?!

They need to be sued for this practice.  It has to be in violation of so many things, starting with company policy probably.

Agreed.   I can't see how they can force that but hey - I'm not in HR or am an attorney.
  • @banana468, I'm sorry to hear about your H's grandma.  Hopefully your H's test comes out negative.

@mrsconn23, glad DefConn turned out okay!  I'd also assume just seeing how terrified you all were will keep him more in line on that.  More than even the punishments.

When I was 8 years old, my friend talked me into going over to her house to play, instead of my walking home.  The plan was, I was going to call my mom from my friend's house when we got there to ask for permission.  But, when we got there, her mom was on the phone for something like 20-30 minutes.  When I was finally able to call my mom, she answered the phone crying and was then furious at me.  Even after I got home, she couldn't stop crying for a long time.  She kept describing how terrified she was.  I don't even remember how I was punished.  But I remember how bad I felt that I'd upset my mom so much.  I never did anything like that again!  Well, at least not until I was a teenager, lol.

@levioosa, congrats to your FI!  Though WTH with sharing a hotel room and a BED with a coworker?  Even in normal times, I side-eye a little bit companies that make people share a hotel room.  But sharing a bed is always way too out of bounds.

The company I work for has a few spots in the office with cube sharing.  Ironically, they are fairly recent.  Put up around May this year.  We never had it before, but have done a lot of hiring and there aren't enough work stations.  They basically took a couple of our small conference rooms.  Put in a long table.  Added in a small cube wall between stations...like from the top of the table to 3' high...and people sit almost right next to each other.  Didn't even bother with 6' social distancing between employees (sigh).

But then, this is the same company who ordered 200+ people to stop WFH and come back to the office during the height of the pandemic (May 2020).  So nothing they do surprises me much anymore.  The only little bit of credit I will give them, is they do encourage people to stay home and either take sick time or WFH, if they have COVID symptoms or were exposed.  Get tested.  And only return if the test comes back negative.

  • @banana468 I'm sorry for your loss

Sharing BEDS on work trips? What even?!

SSDD here. I think I might be going to another concert Friday. It's outdoor on the beach, and there's limited tickets, so it seems like a safe-ish event if you keep your mask on. I'm really just trying to pack in as much fun to this summer as I possible can..lol.
  • My new food obsession.  The Burger King Garlic Bacon Cheeseburger.

Yes, I know it's fast food, which normally shouldn't be heralded, lol.  But, if you like garlic, it is SO good.

Most of it is a pretty ordinary BK burger.  Cheese, one beef patty (or two), and mayo.  But then they add a generous layer of thinly sliced, lightly fried pieces of garlic.  Such garlicky goodness in almost every bite.  I tried it a couple weeks ago, but had it again for lunch today.

My one annoyance is that this sandwich was introduced in Canada first.  In that country, instead of normal mayo, they used a garlic aioli sauce.  I think that would have made it even better.  Such jerks to only offer it with regular mayo in the States, lol.
