Finally Friday!!

So glad it’s (almost) the weekend. I’m feeling myself burning out at work and I need a break to recharge. Not much planned for the weekend. Farmers market, fair, trying to stay out of the sweltering heat and humidity.

I've been half planning next summer because BK will not have care. I'm hoping to do at least 2 weeks of summer camps, but here the camp options for a 4yr old are very slim-to-none. I did see that across the street, there is a dance studio. I may sign her up after xmas to see if she even enjoys it.

I'm half hoping SFIL is still off so he can deal with BK a little bit - M is going to have to wfh a bit {which he knows} but it's just not easy.
    We'll figure it out.

We're under another heat warning *eye roll* I have an RMT appt tomorrow. I need to call later to confirm the time, but I'm still excited to have the appt lol

Good luck to any of you in the path of bad weather from TS/Hurr. Henri.

Oh my goodness, really busy day for me!  But should be good and productive.

I got some great news yesterday.  I've been a "back-up" for a regular gig that involves bi-weekly scanning of most Costco items.  It pays "per scan", but averages out to be around $25/hour.  It's also very flexible days/hours-wise, which is my favorite kind of gig, lol.  The regular person dropped out, so now it's mine.  I also found out that I can have someone help me with it.  So I roped my H in.

Today will be our first day completing it.  My H is going to meet me at work.  Then we're going out for a restaurant month lunch.  Then we're heading over to Costco to knock this out.  A little grocery shopping there when we are done with the gig.  Because, hey, we're already there, lol.

After that, we need to make a bank run.  Then we are heading to a community event where I can get help loading my vaccination record to my LA Wallet digital driver's license.  I keep getting a "record can't be found" error message.  Hopefully they can fix that.  Because then my proof of vaccination will also be in that app, which is officially recognized.  It's become a lot more crucial to have that readily available, because now proof of vaccination is required for indoor dining and casinos.  I'd prefer to keep the actual vaccination card locked up in my home safe, but I've been carrying it around in my purse, in the meantime.

I worked both jobs yesterday.  It's hard, but doable.  I did have an intense craving for a beer afterwards though, so I stopped at my regular place.  I realized as I walked in that they are all used to seeing me high femme and I was rolling in with a t-shirt, cargo pants, sneakers, no purse, and my hair pulled back.  Sure enough, all the guys were like, "Are you okay?!?!"  It was funny and kinda sweet.

No big plans for this weekend except working, studying, and cleaning my very gross apartment.  I really want to go see a movie, but I'm not sure I can make the time for it.  If it stays on like this, I'll be canceling my pass, which makes me sad.

    Otherwise, SSDD.

I'm taking Monday off, so a long weekend for me.  I'm going to spend Saturday and Sunday working outside and finishing my patio and sidewalk, and then Monday hubby and I are doing an outing.  Probably just hiking and things like that.  I hope we have good weather!

Sounds like a great weekend away @climbingsingle, @short+sassy I keep on forgetting to upload my card.  Mask mandate went into effect in Chicago today, so I’m expecting it to hit the ‘burbs too. So far, no vaccination proof needed but that could also change.

Yesterday I signed my HELOC. I checked my email and I first made contact with the mortgage specialist on May 19th, when we were out in Savannah.  Signed August 19th. Ironic. I’m happy at super easy it was, not so happy about the apr though.  I keep seeing lower apr’s being “pre approved” to me, but my banker says it’s something we can revisit in 6 months when the low promo apr is over.

Question for you all: is it difficult to see or get in touch with your doctor? My office uses an answering service so it’s like “leave a message we’ll get back to you”.  Or I can communicate through the app.  But they don’t even open those messages for 48 hours! Well, I saw that they opened up one 24 hours ago but no response yet. Probably waiting for the 48 hrs to respond.  Are all offices like this or should I find one easier to get ahold of?

Kiddos and I head out at 4ish for Covid tests.  We all feel OK and want to confirm there are no issues.

I would really like to make a peach tart tatin because they're still in season here.  Hoping to get to the farm stand on the way home and maybe I can swing that tonight.

The current forecast is for Henri to be close on Sunday afternoon.  Tomorrow will likely be some prep and I'm curious if we can do anything outside tomorrow night near the boat or if the marina's going to be in full-on prep mode.  They'll need to move loose objects, take down umbrellas, etc just to be safe.  Fingers are crossed that this isn't too bad!

Congrats closing on the HELOC!  Don't feel too bad about the "pre-approval" lower APRs.  All of that is marketing crap.  They would have no idea what APR they would actually offer you, until you at least put in an application and their underwriting department had a first glance.

Yes, it is difficult to get in touch with my doctor.  It's not difficult to get in touch with the office.  Someone almost always answers the phone during working hours.  But I am usually leaving a message for his nurse to call in a prescription.  And THAT often takes 1-2 weeks and multiple phone calls.  However, that has not been my previous experience with other doctors.  I really like this doctor, which is why I don't leave.  But the office is horribly run.

In fact, I'm experiencing it right now.  I was EXTREMELY excited to learn last week that Novolog has come out with a fast acting insulin.  At Walmart, it's $86 for a box of 5 pens.  All other fast acting insulin pens are about $550 for a box of 5.  I can get the one I currently take through an online Canadian pharmacy for $135 for a box of 5.

Now I'll save 50 bucks a box and the shipping.  Plus, it will be so much more convenient to get a box within a few days (at most) from a nearby Walmart pharmacy then waiting weeks for it to arrive in the mail while I stalk the tracking numbers constantly.  Or at least all of that will be true when they finally call in my prescription, lol.

At least it's not too much of a hurry yet.  Because the shipping was such a PITA, I would order my boxes in bulk.  Like 10 at a time!  I think I have 4 boxes left from my last shipment.  I just thought of another bonus.  Insulin needs to stay refrigerated while stored.  I can claim some refrigerator space back, now that I only need to keep about one box extra.

That’s such a good savings, @short+sassy!  I hear your pain and frustration on that.

i wish when I called the office it was the actual office.  I just called and told the answering service lady that I sent in my surgical clearance exactly 48 hours ago and if someone could please open it and read it.  I have to start making plans if/when I can get this done (the reason for my heloc) but I dunno, everythings riding on my doc now.

I love my doctor and nurses too.  Same reason why I don’t want to leave.  Scheduling a reg check up is easy. It’s all online.  Or if I call the call center, they rush appt bookings.  But they screen this and I guess surgical
clearance is low priority but I need to know now if I’m rescheduling it or not.

Yay Friday! Nothing exciting here. We're moving into the guest room for the duration of the bathroom reno, so big project is to totally clear out the bathroom and partially pack the bedroom. I'm expecting a ton of dust, so beyond moving day to day stuff, we also need to take down all the pictures and stuff. Otherwise, need to do some yard work and trying to go have dinner with my friend with the shitty husband. I'm hoping to also get a short hike in, to keep the challenge going.

I don't know when I got so old and boring that a hike is the excitement of my weekend, but I'm kind of good with it.

I've been doing errands in preparation for vacation and going to Chicago for GS3's baptism. They are doing it Sunday in a private service. DS2 is coming home tonight to ride with us. We go up tomorrow and return right after the service because we leave for vacation early Monday morning. So today I'm cleaning, got my toe nails done, doing laundry and finishing most of the packing for vacation. H will pack the car some tonight and the rest Sunday after we get home from Chicago.

Hope all that are in the paths of storms stay safe.

I feel 95% better today. I’m still tired and my arm is sore but otherwise I’m okay. No body aches or chills today. I had a low grade fever all day yesterday too. I’m determined never to get the vaccine mid week again because yesterday at work was rough.

Otherwise, SSDD. Putting out fires at work, my parents are supposed to be coming over tomorrow to work on the bathroom.

What’s the scanner job at Costco? @“short+sassy"

RE: doctor’s offices, I can say for us personally there is just so. much. going on all the time that getting to stuff instantly is a struggle. We have 48 hours to return messages and sometimes our hands are tied regarding doctor availability or if they’re even in house to assist with things. And patients get so angry when you (general) can’t help them right away. Patients have to have some responsibility and autonomy too. You can’t call on Friday at 4:50 pm for refills on your meds when you haven’t had an appointment for a year and you knew you were running low for the last two weeks. I’m not saying you’re being like that @CharmedPam, but so many patients are in general.

Im getting slammed at work and I’m a little salty.

It's scanning almost every distinct item in a Costco, except electronics, clothing, and that kind of stuff.  But all the food/alcohol/grocery/gift cards/OTC pharm/baby and pet stuff.  It's done through an app.

I scan one of the items...not the Costco main tag, unless I have to...enter the price.  Hit save.  Move on to the next item.  They even have a handy-dandy ".99" button in the app, to help with entering the price, lol.

It took WAY longer than my H and I were expecting.  They said each store takes a total of 4-8 hours, once you get the hang of it.  This is a smaller than average Costco store, so I figured for our first time we would be done in 3-4 hours...which is both myself and my H working together, so that would really be a total of 6-8 hours.  But, instead, it took us about 11 hours!  We were there for 3 hours on Friday and had to go back on Saturday for another 2.5 hours.

We scanned 1,868 items!  Which is in line, a bit on the low side, from what the company I'm working for told me it would be.

We'll have to see.  If we can get the total number of our hours down to 8 or less, the gig will still be worthwhile.  If not, it's not worth it.  My H and I decided we would complete this gig two more times and see where we are after that.

Other than that, I liked it.  It's almost relaxing because it's almost, but not quite, mindless.  So I quickly just got into a zone.
