Best friends are coworkers, should they be bridesmaids?

Hello ladies! I need some advice. Three out of four of my closest friends just happen to be my coworkers, but I want to ask them to be my bridesmaids. My longest friend is MOH, but now lives overseas and probably won’t make the wedding in 11 months, but I want her to have the MOH title regardless! I’ve heard a lot of bad things about making coworkers bridesmaids, but I’ve known these ladies for a couple years and consider them friends before coworkers. I do spend time with them outside of work, like going out on weekends and going shopping together, and one of them is also my teammate on our college dance team. We are all college students, so sometimes we don’t spend time with each other outside of work for like a month sometimes, but I’m not near as close with anyone else as I am with these girls. Again, I consider them friends before coworkers, but I wanted to get some outside opinions before asking them to be my bridesmaids.

This can work - if you have the right expectations of your bridesmaids. Where things generally go sour is when you expect your BMs to be your unpaid wedding planners or DIY assistants, or when you expect that they throw you a certain level of bachelorette party, or do things that matter not at all like match their shoes.

If you go into it wanting to honor your friendship - you want them to stand literally closest to you as you make a huge personal commitment, to honor that they are emotionally closest to you - then go for it. Their only expectation is to show up, on the day, in the agreed-upon dress, which is within the budget that you privately asked each of them for. Anything else they choose to do or host for you is gravy.
