Wedding Woes

Tuesday

My meet-up group is doing a travel event to Nashville in March.  I don’t know if I waited to late (and late Jan doesn’t seem like it…) but even the mid-grade hotels are $200/night (staying 3 nights). I’m thinking of backing out because that’s a LOT.  Flights are super cheap! I also may stay out of the downtown area and uber whereever we go. That’s the only way to justify this.  Callling @climbingsingle, When you went, did you use uber/lyft a lot and were they hard to come by?

Re: Tuesday

  • I was in Memphis, but yes Uber and Lyft were both easy to get. I don't think we waited more than a few minutes, and we weren't in the downtown area. Seemed like a lot of cars available over the weekend. Just make sure to book direct flights if you can...hahah!!
  • Drivers test tomorrow morning but I also have a dr call tomorrow afternoon.

I'm finding a lot of things that just keep bringing me towards a potential hormone imbalance. So I'm talking to my dr.
If it's not, it could be a weird side effect of IUD - which I don't understand why I'd get it nearly 2 years later.
Since I did note my appt was for hormone questions and it's a phone call, I have to take a pregnancy test.
They'd do it in office, but since I'm not there they ask I take one. That way they have pee stick information.

    I have post pardum level hair regrowth, and my stylist said it didn't seem like breakage but she'd look next time I'm in {she's the one that suggested talking to my dr since I haven't booked anything}

Anyways .... I'm not thrilled but I also don't know what's going on.

@climbingsingle ughhh your airline horror story
@CharmedPam that does sound fun, hope you can make it work!

My local supreme court (Nassau County) had filed against the state Dept of Ed and DOH that mask mandates be lifted at schools, and as of 10am they won.  DOE/DOH will file an appeal but until it goes through, masks aren't required at school.  Yikes.  Me and about 90% of my colleagues are still masked, and about 50% of the students are.  I'm going to keep my kids masked too.  I'm suddenly feeling iffy about being here and realize that it's a privilege that I was able to feel relatively safe at work for this long- big hugs to all who've been in person in places without mask mandates this whole time.

Also feeling overwhelmed bc my lawyer sent me a 55-page final settlement package that needs my reviewing/approval...I feel like I need a lawyer for my lawyer, lol.  It's nice that things are moving along but this is going to be the set in stone stuff we have to follow so I really want to make sure it's the right stuff.
For some reason (I only read the headline) this doesn’t apply to our county? Erie county schools & businesses still have to follow the mandate.

I’m glad things are moving along but that’s overwhelming. Can he give you a summary of what’s included so you know what you’re reading for?
  • I cannot believe how much hotels are in Nashville now.  It's utterly ridic.  DH and I went 8 or 9 years ago and we talk about going back with DefConn (because he's a country-jeans-and-cowboy-boots kid), but every time I look for a weekend I just fall over from the prices.

Weekend was good.  One of my best friends got Covid so she couldn't come for my bday on Saturday, which sucked for both of us.  She's thankfully feeling much better.  But we had a good time with everyone else.  I got some nice bday gifts too.  My dad got me an amazing personalized insulated mug. Sunday was absolutely perfect.  We were home alone and had a fire going all day.  It was so relaxing.

I got my nails done yesterday because I am out of time this week.  Tomorrow is DH's bday and we're going to see Nate Bargatze.  Other than that, worky-work and trying to get ready for my trip.  I think we're all getting excited, but still nervous until we all get our Covid results.
  • It is cold and sunny out, I feel like I need to go walk but I have no desire to. I also feel like my stress fracture/stress reaction is coming back so I need to be careful, although I think my indoor workouts trigger it more than a walk outside

  • @charlotte989875 my county specifically filed to lift the mask mandate, it may be just our county, not the whole state.  And yes I asked for a gist.  We're meeting next week for a full discussion.
  • Ugh @ei34 the mask thing is annoying me to no end.  We KNOW that transmission decreases when someone contagious wears the mask and transmission increases when only worn by the non-contagious as a method of protection vs. transmission.

I get it.  We're getting pandemic fatigue.  But I'll take my kids masked and in class over the alternate and likely outcome which is sick or attending remote because transmission is high and educators are sick.

On the whole and in general I'm not a fan of our lawmaking process when it comes to who can over-rule legislation and who can vote on it.  If you do not have the background on the matter then I challenge how we rule on it.  It was frustrating when we have it at the state level over concepts like dealerships lobbying legislatures so Tesla cannot set up stores (they legally can't because certain states ruled in favor of dealerships) and it chafes me when people pound chests in the name of freedom while we're in the middle of the biggest public health crisis of our lifetimes.

  • Happy Tuesday Y'all.
A week from today my BFF arrives and I am so excited. I still have so much to do, not necessarily to get ready for her but just in general.
Tomorrow I have the gym in the morning, then I have voucher to get my eyebrows tinted and a lash lift. I am also going to get a trim.
Thursday my friends are doing a little baby shower. It is low key, over coffee. But everyone likes cute little baby clothes.
Friday I have to go for an iron injection since my hemoglobins were low in my last blood test.
Sunday we have family pictures scheduled at the beach. FX for good weather.
I will have cleaners come on Monday or Tuesday morning.

In other news, DH's younger brother got picked up for a DUI last night. He has been an alcoholic for a while and is *finally* taking steps to address it (psychologist and psychiatrist) so this is a blessing and a curse for him. MIL, on the other hand, is in serious denial. DH is having all sorts of feels about not being there to support his sister in the tough love.
  • Back at the work grind.  I had gotten tickets for House of Gucci last night, but I had some unrealistic expectations of my energy levels.  I ended up just taking a warm bath and going to bed.

Otherwise, nothing big is going on.  I'm not doing much of anything, work is an absolute shitshow with the entire staff suffering right now.

Is anyone watching The Righteous Gemstones this season?  I wasn't sure that they would be able to top the first season, but they totally are.  I keep having to pause it because I'm laughing so hard.

WE ARE!  OMG we love this show so much!  DH grew up Evangelical.  They get a lot right and how they lampoon it all is so, so great.  Judy and BJ absolutely kill me.

I do have a fantasy HBO crossover of the Gemstone kids and the Succession kids.  I'd love to see Logan Roy have to to deal with their fuckery.

When my girls' trip was in Nashville we stayed in an airbnb or vrbo in East Nashville. It was great! I know there are some that are small enough for one or two people if there is someone with whom you would want to share a place. We ubered everywhere - no problem getting one.

Are these communities that are more likely to swing to the right?

We have a contingent that you can see here in CT that aren't just Republican but more right wing.  There's a lovely restaurant in town and it recently had a flier put on its door that its vaccination and mask requirements could be compared to the policies of the Nazis during WWII.  The thing is - it's likely that such a letter was either not from someone in town or that person represents a VERY small portion of the town.

We got two free ones when I picked up our free tests from the town.  DH is wearing a KN95 now and we have the N95 as backup.  You could see that they were in use by residents in church last week.
  • Work day 2 and we had a surprise audit so I hustled to make sure we were in compliance and man did those 3 hours of rushing take a lot out of me. I have an appointment with a provider today just to get a chest x ray to make sure I look okay. I don’t think I have pneumonia but I know I was pretty close to it last week.

Otherwise SSDD. I am whipped and it’s only 11 am on a Tuesday.

Yeah, we were so sad that we burned through it so quickly because we just loved it. The way it ends seems to indicate season 2 will happen.

  • @CharmedPam, Now that I'm doing research on good cities for STRs...Nashville you say?  With low vacancy in January?  Hmmm.

@ei34, I am so angry about schools.  Of all places where people should wear masks, it's schools.  Teachers have already been through enough during the pandemic, they shouldn't feel like they have to risk their lives by teaching petri dishes of germs children.  I realize one misguided argument is that children are unlikely to have major complications/death if they contract COVID, but children interact with everybody else in the family.

There is already a mask mandate in Louisiana, which includes schools.  And, starting Feb. 1st in Orleans Parish, children 5 and up need to be fully vaccinated.  When that announcement was first made, I heard lawsuits were being talked about for private schools to be excluded.  But I'm not sure if anything ever came of that.

@MissKittyDanger, good luck on your driving test tomorrow!  I hope you get an answer for what's going on medically and that it isn't too bad/easily fixable.

@VarunaTT, I'm glad you feel well enough and (I assume) tested negative so that you could go back to work.

It's been a good day at work.  Busy, but not stressful.  The person I was supposed to start training tomorrow can't start until Monday.  Which gives me a little bit of a reprieve, lol.  I wrote detailed instructions for the "steel" half of what I do, but haven't looked at them in a few years.  I want to review them and make sure they aren't missing something new or need something taken out.

Most of the communities, without even mentioning left/right, have been very "Covid is just a cold" and anti-mask/anti-vax among the adults, so they feel strongly about their children masking.
Interestingly enough, two of the districts that kept masks mandated yesterday despite the brief ruling, Jericho and Syosset, are consistently at the very top of every "best school districts in LI/in NY" list.  The parents are highly educated and many are doctors, anesthesiologists, chemists, etc.  I'll have what they're having...
I live in a town that's not far from Pfizer's research facility.  It is more than likely that my kids have classmates that are the kids of people who helped develop the vaccine that they received.  Heck, my closest mom friend in town (and mom of Chiquita's good friend) was part of building the database for the testing involved.

I'm continuing to hold onto the hope that we have both enough of them in our population and that they're vocal enough to local board of health and town leaders that we'll continue to follow the science.

That's my hope in my own children's district.  There are lots of parents in the medical profession, mixed with plenty who are simply conscientious, so I have hope.  The district I work in is its own animal, but I know I can individually mask of course.

We have a former friend, who is normally a very anti-government bit of a conspiracy theorist kind of guy.  But his mom was part of one of human trials for one of the vaccines (I think Moderna).  As soon as he was allowed to get a vaccine, he got one.  His mom is elderly and has a lot of health problems.  He said something like, "If she of all people didn't have any adverse effects from the vaccine, then it must be safe!"

I realize that sentence isn't very scientific, lol.  But, hey, whatever worked for him to go get the vaccine.

But then when our city started having vaccine mandates to go to bars/restaurants, he was opposed to that.  He felt that was government overstepping.  So, even though he was vaccinated, he refused to show his card and just wouldn't go to places that insisted on seeing it.  Which they were all legally required to do, but that doesn't mean all businesses adhered to it.

Honestly, I can "see" the concept of people complaining of government overreach when they're telling businesses what they can and can't allow.  On paper that business now does not get to make its own rules and hast to tell potential customers that they can't do something they're legally allowed to do.   "On paper" I get that.

But now we're in matters of public health.  Just as I am not opposed to mandates that prohibit smoking inside because there are only health problems and no benefits that come from first, second or thirdhand smoke, by refusing to vaccinate you are opting to put yourself and others at a greater degree of risk.

But now that we're seeing the virus spread more through the unvaccinated, I'll be far more in favor of mask mandates vs. vaccination mandates in places where that can make sense (like inside a store vs. inside a restaurant where your activity is unmasked).

Also, @short+sassy I think it was Sarah Palin that just went to a NYC establishment this week and she's reportedly publicly announced that she's not vaccinated and covid + still ate there.  People on the Twitter box claimed that the restaurant is known for not checking.
