Aisle runner for field

My wedding is going to be in an old pasture. The grass is not soft, in fact we have been warned that by our ceremony it will be more straw-like (stiff, dry). I am looking for runner ideas for my walk down the aisle. We don't think the weave in burlap is tight enough to keep the grass from sticking through and protecting my dress. Any suggestions for a durable material?

You might put down a length of landscape fabric and then cover that with your desired material. I'd probably opt for something less coarse than burlap if you want to protect your gown.
