Thursday

Ugh, still sick. I swear the germs that come home from daycare are super human. WFH because even though it’s not Covid I still don’t want to share this with anyone else. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it to softball tonight!

    THEY ARE THE WORST!

Stomach virus running through the house was my least favorite.  The one good thing is that as the kids are getting older they seemed to be sick less often.
  • Ugh that sucks @charlotte989875.

I'm WAH today.  It was nice to 'sleeping in'.  I'm chafing for access so I actually have stuff to do.  At least I have more one on ones today.  They've been going well since it's mostly shooting the shit.

I'm still tired.  This adjustment is kicking my ass. I've also been sleeping like shit because my brain is too 'on' with all the things. I have had some very strange twilight dreams that have made zero sense.

I have no idea what we're doing this weekend.  Next weekend, DH and DefConn will be OOT separately.  IDK if I want to go OOT too (to visit SIL and nephews) or if I want to stay home.  I think I'm currently too tired and overwhelmed to decide this moment.

    Prudie coming up.
  • Ugh, sorry Charlotte. I hope you feel better soon! I am nervous about starting at Urgent Care because I’m going to come in contact with ALL of the bugs whereas the past three years I’ve been able to escape everything except COVID (granted the Covid almost killed me) and it’s been magical. But that also means that my immune system (which already is not my biggest fan) is going to lose it when I start seeing constant sick complaints.

Work today, not too much else going on. Trying to study here and there when I can. Having some FOMO because SIL is texting me from their cruise and I wish we were there.

  • Moderna got approved for under 5 for Canada!
    Pfizer soon.
Dr said yesterday that likely August it'll be roll out.

BK was not happy with shots but she's in good spirits. Her arm hurt yesterday, so I half expected it to hurt today, but nope. No issues sleeping - which I know can be uncomfortable.
She did ask for help with her shirt and going down the stairs but idk if her arm was just stiff or actually sore.
Because one was the MMRV, we're watching for a mini rash they said could pop up within next 2 weeks

Otherwise okay. She did so well but I asked M never to send me for shots again lol
  • @charlotte989875, drag!  I hope you start feeling better.

I had a bad cold a couple weeks ago.  For the cold itself, I was only down for a couple days.  But, for me, colds always cause a cough that lasts for weeks.  I'm still suffering from that.  It's really affecting my speaking.  I'll be fine, start to say something, and then I can't stop coughing.  I'm only able to get out one sentence at a time.  So frustrating!

I checked one of my business accounts this morning and had a nice, little surprise.  One of my S8 tenants had moved in on June 27th.  Which was too late in the month to get the direct deposit for July.  I assumed the few days rent of June and the month of July would be paid on August 1st, with the August rent.  But they actually paid June and July today.  Woo-hoo!  I've heard they will sometimes pay on the 15th for those kind of situations but, with S8, I certainly wasn't counting on it, lol.

We did end up buying some bathroom pantry organizational cubes during Prime Day.  They are supposed to come on Sunday.  My H and I are really hoping they work out.  They are cubes with steel bars and disks, so there is a lot of flexibility in how to set them up.  And, if they don't, they were only $32 for about 6 of them.  So at least it wouldn't be much of a financial loss.

But, yeesh. I would be so frustrated to go back to square one, because this pantry is a weird configuration.  It's an 18" opening, but then is about 6" wider than that on the inside.  It also goes back really deep, I'd guess about 2 1/2 feet.  However you slice it, it's impossible to utilize all the space it has.  It's a small bathroom and the only one I have, so I need all the space I can get! Lol.

You’re considerate @charlotte989875, I’ve been out to places where people don’t care if they’re sick still.
@mrsconn23 woohoo first week with the promo almost in the bag!

i’m dragging today.  Had a nice evening with my friend who had me over for dinner, but lately she’s been cooking it during the day and then giving me the microwaved leftovers? The whole invite is for me to come over for dinner! I couldn’t eat the food yesterday because it was sitting out since (who knows when?) and ALL dried up.  The chicken and bread were rock hard! Even she said “you could cut your teeth on this!”  I had to leave a bit early to go home and eat something there.  Oops.  She used to invite me over for dinners and had it freshly done right when I got there or cooked when I was there.  Sad.

Ugh, that reminded me I had low blood sugar (BG) problems last night and they were causing weird dreams and I also kept waking up.  When I would wake up, it would only be for a few seconds, but that kind of interruption is enough to feel like I got so much less sleep than I did.  I've always assumed that's because it interrupts the deeper REM sleep.

The weird dream I remember is I was on a cruise ship and I realized my blood sugar was low because I was soaked in sweat...I really was soaked in sweat...and I alerted the beverage server to please bring me juice.  I was even in a half-awake state where I realized my blood sugar was low and needed to be taken care of, but yet was also expecting an imaginary server to bring me juice.

Then fell back asleep.  My other super short wake-ups were, "Blood sugar still low, I need to get some juice," but then fell back asleep in seconds before I was awake enough to take action.

It did slowly start going back up from 2am-7am, but was still low the whole time.  When I woke up it was 68 with the arrow going up, aka it was headed higher.

I drank half a Coke, just to be on the safe side.  Checked again one hour later.  There was an almost straight line from 68 to 264.  Argh! (throwing fist to the sky).

For context, a normal person's BG range is about 70-100.

    -------------------------

Fun animal facts.  A dog and cat's BG range is very close to a human's, just slightly higher.  Dog (75-120), Cat (80-120).  My little Nip girl developed diabetes in the last year of her life.  The vet diagnosed her by pricking her ear to get a little blood and then used a glucose monitor.  I'd already told him I was a Type 1 and said, "Well, I recognize that!  Can I just use the same one I have to check her sugars?"  Yep!  Dogs and cats use exactly the same glucose monitors that people do.  Except you prick their ear, since they have paws instead of fingers, lol.

They say it's "hard to get blood out of turnip".  Well it's also hard to get blood out of a cat's ear!

Yeeahhh.  They are.  I hated to do it.  Because it wasn't just pricking her ear, I would usually have to squeeze that part of her ear a little bit to get enough blood out.

The vet recommended we do it once a week but, unlike a person, it's not like we'd adjust her insulin dose anyway so we definitely skipped weeks.  We were good about it in the beginning so if it was staying too high or, even worse, staying too low we could notify the vet and adjust her insulin.  In fact, he did have us adjust it up by one unit.

At least the insulin shot was easy.  Cats/dogs have thicker skin than people and can't feel it (I usually don't feel it either).  We'd pull the skin on the back of her neck a little and give the shot there.

A silver lining is it got my H a little over his discomfort with needles.  Despite living with me for over 20 years, he still can't watch me give myself a shot, lol.

At first he was telling me I needed to give her all the insulin shots.  She needed one, once a day.  I told him, "No way.  You need to learn how to do it, because I'm not always going to be home at the right time."

He was SO squeamish the first couple times I walked him through it.  But quickly got over it and I think even liked it!  He found it fascinating he could poke her with a needle and she didn't notice, even though he knew logically she couldn't feel it.  He actually ended up being the one who usually gave her the daily shot.

Edited to add:  IMHO, cats have the best ears!  I like the always perked up triangle shape.  And their ears are always so soft and warm.

  • My rabbits have thin ears too ... I could never imagine taking blood.

Dragging today.  I've been in a "lull" at work, and by "lull" I mean not crazy busy that I am scrambling and working crazy overtime.  I have over 40 hours I have to use up (the job of salary - I know I don't get paid extra for working extra, so darn it I'm not working that much extra).  But I'm getting back into that period were I have to work an extra two hours a day again.  So just bummed out I guess.  And my kitchen reno is starting in about three weeks, and I don't have all the cabinets sanded down and stained yet.  I have a good chunk sanded, but I still have to do about 15 doors and the whole pantry, and all the uppers.

I completely forgot it was Prudie day.
