Ideas for M/G & F/B?

Howdy!

Hope this is the appropriate place to look for suggestions.

My wedding is in almost exactly 3 weeks. It's a more casual affair being held outdoors with a brunch buffet and games following (think Horseshoes etc.). There is no dancing as myself, FH, and pretty much all of our friends are not fans of dancing.

Instead I had planned for us to do a Mother & Groom VS Father & Bride game of Cornhole since it's a game that is very dear to us. Come to find out only days ago that future MIL chose a dress that is so restrictive she said she won't be able to! I'm so upset, this is a feature I'd been planning and raving about since planning started. While at this point I'm no stranger to foiled plans, this leaves us with pretty much nothing for the M/S & F/D. We chose a venue that doesn't permit dancing, so we couldn't do one even if we were forced to.

Anyone have any suggestions for something we could do instead? I'm drawing a total blank, so figured I'd ask some strangers on the internet for advice.

Much appreciated!

  • You don't have to have a M/S F/D thing at all. I'm sure you and your friends love corn hole but I personally would not want to watch competition of it. Dances don't last that long so it isn't so bad to ask your guests to watch a minute or two of dancing. A full on game competition is another thing. Don't worry about this and just enjoy being with your guests and family.

I am absolutely curious as to how a dress can be so restrictive someone cannot toss a bean bag.

IF you think your entire guest list would find it fun to watch such a competition, perhaps you could somehow elevate the cornhole boards so your FMIL only needs to toss the bag, versus crouch down.  As the other poster noted, I think anything over 2-3 minutes gets old fast.

Many weddings forgo the father/bride, mother/groom dance.  It does not need to be replaced by anything.  Perhaps your FMIL and dad can offer a toast.
  • My daughter had a similar type of wedding. No dancing. And although I bought some lawn games, few people played them (except for the kids). The adults just had fun talking, eating and drinking with other guests. Seriously, that is all you need. Food and booze and a joyful occasion are enough for a good party.
  • As someone who plays backyard cornhole all the time I absolutely want to see this dress that is cornhole restrictive.
