What to do when the MOG has passed away, and the relationship with step mom isnt there...

My Fiancee's mother passed away 2 years ago. He has a step mom, but there is no motherly relationship with her and he does not feel comfortable doing a mother son dance with her. He is very close with his 2 sisters, and would rather do a dance with the two of them, but is worried about hurting his step mother's feelings. What do we do??

  • He could just omit an assigned dance altogether or he could do a dance with the sisters using a song that's an appropriate brother/sister relationship.

There is zero obligation for your FI to dance with her.  She may feel the same way, actually.
I would skip it altogether.  Rather than have two “spotlight” dances with his sisters, I would recommend they decide on an upbeat song that has meaning for them and use that to start the reception off.
  • I would just omit a spotlight dance for him and his stepmother. It's not required. If he wants to do a special dance with someone other than you, he could do it with his sisters.
