Dear Prudence, 

I have been seeing a woman for almost five years. She will not have sex with me and will not take her single status off of all her social media apps. She says she has no sexual urge and wants no labels, she swears she is not going to be with anyone else but you know that is crazy right? What should I do?

This is a friendship.   Tell the person you're happy to stay friends but you seek romance and are going to see if there's a better match for you.

By seeing her, do you mean you're seeing her around? Because it doesn't really sound like you're dating her.

It's unusual, but not crazy.  The LW is the crazy one.  Sounds like this person is asexual and has always been clear about the terms of the relationship.  If that wasn't what the LW was looking for, they shouldn't have wasted 5 years waiting for this person to change their mind.

It's like, "I don't understand what happened!  I thought this person would radically change and they didn't."

If she’s been clear about her boundaries (even if they don’t make sense to you) and you’re not comfortable with them, why are you staying in this “relationship”? Not all relationships have a sexual component but all parties need to agree that is the expectation from the get go. 

But also- single is a label, so either she’s lying about not liking labels or she just doesn’t want a label with you. Either way- get out.

This person might be asexual.  Some asexual people will have sex, some will not, it varies by person.

As far as the single status....is that a default or what?  I never put my relationship status on my social media for myriad of reasons.  Does she actually have "single" or does she not have anything?

Honestly, it doesn't matter.  LW isn't happy, there's more than 4 people in the world, and since LW doesn't even mention anything nice about this person, I'm not really sure why LW is staying and needs Prudie.
